"Hey, Kacchan? I love you.” Izukus voice echoed in a black and empty void.
Katsuki was startled awake by the alarm clock. He sat up quickly in the bed, panting and shaking. His mouth was dry and was probably not feeling all too well. But he knew it wasn’t anything dangerous, he wasn’t sick or anything. It was just one of those damn nightmares again. He gripped his sheets tight and looked at the time.
7:00, if he didn’t start getting ready now, he might be late for class. They begin in forty-five minutes and he’ll have to take a quick shower because of all the damn sweating, get changed, make something to eat and deal with shitty hair all the way from the dorms to class.
He got up and slammed his hand on the clock, it stopped ringing immediately. He sighed and went straight to the bathroom, after stepping out of the shower he put on his clothes quickly, took his bag and wore his shoes before slamming the door after him. Maybe he should just skip today after all... he quickly shook the thought off and continued walking to the elevator. He isn’t weak, he shouldn’t have to sit out just because of a damn nightmare. Not to mention all the trouble it would cause.
In the common room he found a fourth of the class, most of them being his so-called friends. No, they weren’t fake unlike those in middle school. They were just very... different and unique.
“Bakugo! I didn’t see you in the kitchen when I came down today, so I thought you were already in class but here you are! Did you wake up late or something?!” Kaminari exclaimed and that caught the attention of the rest.
“Yeah, something like that.” Katsuki answered tiredly as he walked past him to the kitchen, he was really hungry.
“Woah. I never thought I'd see the day where Bakugo wouldn’t be screaming at Kaminari! What's up? You don’t feel good or something?” Mina asked, leaning forward on one of the tables.
“Something like that, racoon eyes, now stop asking questions and mind your business.” Katsuki grabbed a piece of bread and added butter and other toppings.
“Alright...!” Mina put her hands up playfully and stood up “Let’s go! Or else we’ll be late...” Katsuki was amongst the group of idiots as they walked to class.
He sat down in his seat in front of a weird guy named Shinso. Or as Katsuki liked to call him, Brainwashing Bastard. He leaned his head on the palm of his hand, barely noticing Kirishima taking the chair from the desk beside his and sitting in it, and tuned out the conversations going on in the class, there was still a few minutes left before Aizawa came.
“Oh, it’s that song! What was the name? It goes like this ‘Oh hmm I stay? Would it be a sin?’ that one!” one of the girls exclaimed and that seemed to get Katsukis attention. He almost turned his head at the familiar song.
“Oh! It's Can’t Help Falling In Love! I love that! ‘For I... can’t help!’” another one chimed in.
“Falling in love! With! You!” they both laughed.
“For I... can’t help... falling in love, with... you.” Katsuki whispered under his breath after them and he could feel the tears burning behind his eyelids.
“Hey, bro? Are you alright?” Kirishima asked but Katsuki couldn’t snap out of his thoughts “Hey... Bakugo? Bakugo?” Kirishima waved a hand and more people began to look at them.
Katsuki was in his own little world, re-playing memories of him and Izuku together when they were younger. Oh, how he regretted all the things he did. He felt a tear slide down his cheek, and then another. He couldn’t stop them. He didn’t want them to stop. How long has it been since he let out his frustrations? Did he ever? He never cried at the funeral. Would it hurt to cry now? Would Izuku mind?
His breath hitched and more tears flowed down his cheeks, like rivers. He couldn’t stop the scene from replaying over and over in his head.
“Hey Kacchan...?” Izuku asked. Katsuki found himself in their old classroom. Izuku turned around to face Katsuki who glared back. Izuku took a step and then another until he was exactly in front of Katsuki.
“What are you doing ner-?” Izuku suddenly hugged Katsuki and the latter froze in his place.
“Would you push me away knowing this was the last time?” Izuku whispered so that only Katsuki would hear him even though they were the only ones there. Katsuki didn’t know what to do. What did he mean? No, he knew exactly what he meant. Should he push away and save his dignity like he had done? Or should he hug back? He did neither, he just stood there until Izuku let him go.
“Don’t follow me.” Izuku whispered again and lightly brushed past him and out the door. He heard fast footsteps, Izuku was running. Home? To retrieve the book that Katsuki blew up? What was he going to do? Katsuki snapped out of it and ran after him, up the stairs that led to the roof.
“Izuku!” Katsuki exclaimed as he went through the open door. It was supposed to be locked. Nobody was allowed on the roof. Izuku was nearing the railing but still turned around.
“What? You didn’t mean it? Do you regret it? What are you going to say?” Izuku said, his voice was nothing like what it used to be. It wasn’t happy, there wasn’t even a hint of hope in it. What did he do to break such a perfectly functional human being?
“I... am sorry.” the words left Katsukis mouth without his permission “I didn’t mean it. I'm sorry. I don’t expect you to forgive me but please...” Katsuki sobbed, when did he start crying?
“Kacchan...” Izukus voice was shaking, he was crying as well. Katsuki choked and held his chest.
“I’m sorry for everything all these years! I'm an asshole and you never deserved everything you went through! I'm sorry this happened just please... don’t do it.” Katsuki exclaimed loudly and extended his hand. Izuku took it and pulled him in a hug. Katsuki squeezed him in his arms thinking he had saved him.
“Hey Kacchan...?” Katsuki looked at Izuku who was crying “I love you...” Izuku smiled at him before he pushed him quickly making Katsuki land on his back, he quickly stood up only to see Izuku jumping over the railing.
“No! Please, no!” he got up and ran to catch him, but he missed. He looked away, looking at his feet as he heard a loud noise of Izukus body “No... Izuku...” he couldn’t breathe, only thinking it was his fault. If he hadn’t said those stupid words. If he didn’t think so highly of himself from the begging, if he didn’t bully Izuku for being quirkless... then none of this would’ve happened.
Hours passed by without him noticing and he found himself being escorted to the hospital in the same ambulance as Izuku. Everything was so rushed but nothing they tried to do had saved him. He didn’t talk to anyone at all, he just locked himself in his room when they got home. He had never seen such a heartbroken face on Inkos face ever since... then.
He was changing when a paper fell out of his school jacket. He froze. He knew what it was, but he hoped it wasn’t. He picked up and his heart fell, he dropped to his knees, but no tears were coming out, they had run out. It was a note Izuku left before he jumped. He must’ve put it there when he pulled him in for a hug the first time.
Katsuki crumpled the paper in his hand but clutched it close to his chest.
“You know that song...? The one we used to sing almost every day when we were younger? It's my favourite song thanks to you Kacchan... do you know why? Because I can’t help falling in love with you...”
