She thrusted her sword forward. Her opponent avoiding it perfectly on time. Holding her weapon tightly, lunging at him, he quickly blocked her sword off with his, while he tried pushing her off of her feet, she kicked his shin, making him stumble back, his grip loosening on his weapon. The young woman took the chance, and knocked it out of his hand, pinning him in the muddy ground, with her sharp blade.
“Excellent fight you put there, Princess Kagami.” The man, still lying on the ground, admitted, taking off his helmet.
Kagami helped him up, bowing down to him, as he copied her. “It was pleasure, Takashi sensei.”
“It’s always a change to fight you, Princess.” He smiled politely at her, shaking her hands in peace. “It will be a delight to match with you again, next week.”
She nodded to him, before turning her head to the maid who stood to the side, her eyes full of awe. The japanese girl couldn’t help but for her lips to twitch upwards in a tiny smile. She waved to her, and the blue eyed maid hurried, carrying water and a towel in her hands.
She Curtsied Before the princess, then proceeded to present her highness the towel and water. The girl poured some water to the princess’ hands, before she wiped them in the towel and took the water goblet, gulping from it.
“You did great, your highness.” The maid stammered.
“Thank you, Marinette.” She answered. “Marinette, right?”
“Yes, my princess.” Marinette’s cheeks burned, as she bowed her head quickly in respect.
“Follow me, I need to get ready for dinner.” The hazel eyed princess decided, looking at the sun that was slowly moving the west.
Kagami stood in her balcony in the dark night, as she over looked the garden and the stables. She noticed the lights on, as two people carried out a big box - probably they were cleaning the stables. The fire log lit their face, and she saw Marinette, beaming brightly like the moon above, with the blond stable boy. Her eyes narrowed at his careful touches and nervous smile.
The princess smiled absent-mindedly, imagining more of the girl’s happy moments. A loud laugh interrupted the princess' thoughts, as she glared looking for the source. Marinette sat dirty clothed in the mud as the box slipped from her hand, while The blonde laughed, putting down his side of the box and went to help her up.
The blue eyed girl smiled at him sweetly as she took his hand and dragged him down to her side. The black haired girl laughed then, as blond looked at his mudded hands funnily. Shaking his head at her.
They looked so happy. Kagami thought. A pool of unsettled feelings rounded in her guts, as she averted her eyes away for a moment, inhaling the cold breeze as she muffled their laughter. She hurried back into her room, and slammed her balcony large door behind her.
“Kagami, are you aware of what I am saying?” The blind queen called her daughter out, in a stern tone, as she paused her eating.
Kagami stared at her plate, who she started to pick on her food unconsciously, moderating her tone, she replied to her mother who looked straight ahead for the table.
“Yes, you majesty.” She carefully started to cut her food with her knife.
“Splendid. moving on, Prince Felix will arrive with Queen Amilie tomorrow’s morning.” She took a bite between her lips. “He had been on wars with his neighbouring kingdom, and offered a treaty.”
Kagami paused, she knew of the wars, it all started when prince Adrien and his mother the Queen, and princess Emilie disappeared. rumeurs said about Felix desiring to rule both kingdoms, and other told of King Gabriel’s greedy desires of ultimate power.
“And what are we gaining from this?” Kagami asked, already pondering every possible gain.
The Graham’s kingdom was known for the cold weather most of the year, they had relied on the Agrestes domain, for crops and grains, and they exchanged the crops that grew only in the cold winter, and the strong fighters that aided the Agrestes many times.
“A future king for this country.”
The princess nodded, agreeing that, it was the best gain for this kingdom, a king to rule by her side. After the meal was done, she excused herself, deciding to leave for the library, as she had no training outside in the mornings.
Choosing a book of romance was not a hard choice, as she found them entertaining way to spend time, and learn about the outside of the castle, of the people the novels speak about, of lovers the princess hadn’t seen like before.
“Alya, come on, we don’t want to get caught now, do we?” A whisper came to Kagami’s ears from two rows south, she strained her ears to listen.
“Marinette, calm down, just this page and we’ll go.” A familiar voice said.
The short haired princess’ attention was hooked at the mention of Marinette. Peeking through the books she saw the pretty maid with another one with tanned skin. The redhead was holding a book the princess recognised as a book about politics, while Marinette looked around them, carefully examining the empty hall.
Kagami smiled at the scene, holding in a giggle. She continued to watch them, until the maid with glasses finally left the book back on the shelf. Pretending to dust the shelves before moving to another one.
“Did you see what the princess wore today?” Alya asked her friend, as she glanced curiously at another book.
“Yes! The dress was so pretty, it suited her well.” Marinette praised, as she started to ramble. “I liked the frills it had, and the lace on the sleeves and collar just made it look softer and fancier.”
“Yeah.”
“And the stitching, embroidery of the dragon is very pretty.”
"It's one of the royal family's dresses - A dragon is embroidered into all of them, don't you know?" Alya rolled her eyes.
“But the princess’ was prettier by far.” The blue eyed girl blabbed.
Kagami stepped back, as she felt heat crawl to her neck, as her breath got shallower. She glanced at them again, and widened her eyes when Marinette let out a giggle, making her look brighter, and beautiful.
Kagami’s breath hitched, as she took her book and left the library, getting out in the garden. Her lungs filled with air, and the flowery smell of the bushes. To a far bench she went, and sat on reading her book, but she couldn’t concentrate enough to enjoy it.
The princess took a deep breath, before she stood up and climbed the stairs to her room. She froze when she saw Marinette in her room, putting laundry another maid had taken earlier.
“Marinette.” The princess greeted.
The maid gasped quietly, as she scrambled to bow, but Kagami stopped her with a wave of hand, stepping closer to her. The midnight haired maid stepped back, as her royal highness’ sharp gaze saw through her soul, and froze her in place against the wall.
“Your highness?” Marinette stuttered, while Kagami didn’t stop.
Kagami raised her hand to caress her cheek, as she felt the softness of it and heat pool on it. She made a shushing sound, as she stared into her blue baby doll eyes, the maid smelled of vanilla and fresh bread, and the hazel eyed princess never thought that it’d be her favourite smell.
“Are you courting the stables boy?” Kagami asked calmly.
“I- We are working on it.” She stammered.
She hummed in response, leaning closer. She felt Marinette’s hot breath on her face, slowly placing her lips on Marinette’s, giving her the chance to protest, but there were none. Kagami closed her eyes, as she gave themselves the chance to familiarise the feeling.
She kissed her, and Marinette kissed back shyly. Kagami pulled back breathless.
“He might be your lover, but I am your future queen, and I order you not to speak of this.” She said in Matinette’s ear, kissing her cheek before pulling away, and slowly walking away as well.
Marinette’s eyes grew in shock, as she touched her lips, looking where the princess left.
“I had my first kiss.” Kagami whispered to herself, her face going beetroot, as she climbed up the stairs.
That night, Kagami watched Marinette’s usual date in the garden with the stables boy. Something was different that night, as Marinette leant in for a kiss with the blond – Who the princess learned later to call Adrien.
