The long way home シ

Summary:

The two were just supposed to buy groceries. They weren't supposed to be lost and get involved in a failed villain attack.

Izuku's lips curved into a smile, “Well, if they decided not to help, have you considered mur—”

“Dad said if you say that word he’s going to put you up for adoption,” Hitoshi warned.

“The homi—”

“That too, or any synonym and metaphor that leads to another person’s death,” Hitoshi snickers.

“Fuc—tual information that I’ll keep in mind, thank you,” Izuku continued midway his cursing.

Finally, another one-shot fic finished from the endless void of my unfinished one-shot fics.

Work Text:

The sun is setting and the sky is already getting dark.

Shota sighs, a coffee mug in hand and the other rubbing their pet cat’s belly. His children should be back by now. They told him they would buy tonight’s dinner because he’s still injured from his previous patrol, and Hizashi is busy with his radio show.

Shota had no choice but to agree.

He grips his mug now and then, anxiety crippling the back of his head every time he’s reminded that he allowed their Problem child to go out with their kid that has a mindset of, ‘Dad will figure out something to fix the problem, eventually.’

The two were just recently adopted into their home two days ago. He hopes they’re sensible enough to know the way to the grocery store, especially the way back home.

He just wishes that the two would arrive home soon and get his worry over, and please for the love of whatever higher being there is, don’t get them in trouble.

Apparently, praying to any higher being isn’t enough to stop Izuku and Hitoshi into trouble.

Izuku smiles with his cheeks almost reaching his eyes, stopping from his tracks and facing Hitoshi. He has his hands at his back, his eyes glancing to the side when Hitoshi made eye contact with an irked expression.

Hitoshi loves seeing his brother smile after all the things they have been through, they went through shit thick and thin together, after all. But he wants nothing more but the punch that expression off his face.

“Alright, so Izuku with the ‘I know the way home’ middle name, where are we?” Hitoshi smiled back, and Izuku swore to God that smile was going to shoot laser beams and kill him on the spot.

Izuku’s smile falters and he swallows the apology threatening to leave his lips because he has no clue where the fuck they are. Zero. Nada. No fucking clue. They’re lost and he knew it. But he would never admit it. He was never wrong. Not in his vocabulary.

He found the way to the grocery store, he could find the way back home.

They just took… the long way home. That’s all.

His eyes looked around, analyzing everything he could see to avoid the other teen’s gaze that was one second away from punching the ever-living shit out of him, “We’re…here! On this spot!” he answered after a minute of hesitation.

Hitoshi’s eye twitched, a smile still plastered on his lips, “And where is our way home?” he asked calmly as possible, watching the other teen squirm uncomfortably under his gaze.

“Uhm,” Izuku chuckles nervously, running his hand at the back of his head, “Well, ahm—”

“Please help me!”

Izuku’s expression brightened, while Hitoshi’s face hardened. Two contradicting expressions from the two heroes-in-training.

“Well, would you look at that! We’ll deal with the direction later!” Izuku hums, running off where the voice came from, the other teen following close behind him.

He knows he shouldn’t be happy that someone was in trouble, but if that’s one way to avoid Hitoshi’s wrath then maybe he would allow this feeling once… with the additional amount of guilt.

Everything will work out anyways. If not, then sad to say but that’s their Dad’s problem now (influenced by his brother’s mindset).

“I should’ve gone to the grocery alone!” Hitoshi grumbles under his breath, holding their grocery in his hands as they run.

Izuku ignores him, using his quirk to get to the person as soon as possible. He could hear several voices talking among themselves a bit far away. Some of them seem to be yelling, some laughing instead.

Is it a gang? No, there weren’t any gunshots yet. Then, maybe a group of villains? But only one person screamed. Why would a group of villains gang up on one person? That doesn’t seem right.

Nonetheless, he continued to run until he reached his destination.

His eyes are fast to analyze and calculate the situation the moment his vision saw them. Three villains are pinning a middle schooler to the wall in an alleyway. The three each have a smirk on their faces, turning turns on scaring the poor kid by threatening to take his life and his family away.

The middle schooler on the other hand seems one minute away from passing out and pissing himself.

Before he could get on his fighting stance and tell the villains off, he saw Hitoshi walk past him and say, “Hey!” he yells, his hands comfortably in his pocket and a sly smirk plastered on his lips.

Hitoshi even tilts his head, his eyebrows raised, and Izuku never saw his brother this confident before. Shota and Hizashi would be so proud of their purple gremlin.

Izuku quirked his brows, where did their grocery go?

The three villains looked up to him. One crinkles their nose in annoyance, the other gleams with the view of other targets, and the last smirks in delight.

“My, my! We have some hero-wannabes!” The one with an eyepatch and an ax on his back grinned.

“Do you guys have a death wish?” One with chains around his neck laughed.

“Now look at what you’ve done,” One with grey hair hissed, turning his gaze back to the middle schooler. The villain grabs the teen’s hair and pulled.

The said middle schooler cried a new set of tears.

The two UA students glared at the three, Hitoshi easily glossing it over after a second passed. Izuku, however, looks like he’s about to go feral.

Without any second thought, Hitoshi executed his plan.

He grins, showing off his canine teeth, “You all seem like you’re all bark and no bite, how weak must you be to gang up on a middle schooler? The villain industry must be setting down their bars low these days with the likes of you—”

“Why you—”

“I’ll kill you—”

“You made a mistake by say—”

The three personas tried to attack simultaneously, grabbing their weapons and were about to lunge forward to attack until—

“Drop all of your weapons and get down on your knees with your hands behind your back,” Hitoshi ordered, using his quirk and watching as their eyes dulled as he takes control.

The three did as they were told, removing all of their weapons from their clothes and any hidden area in their bodies. They then got down to their knees, their eyes still dull as they obeyed to put their hands on their backs.

Izuku was quick on his feet, running up to the three with zip ties on the ready. He went behind their back, tying multiple zip ties on each one to prevent them from moving any further after Hitoshi removes his control over them.

In mere minutes, it was done.

Izuku nods in Hitoshi’s direction, and the other teen nods back in response. He removes his control, smiling to himself as they successfully apprehended the villains.

One of the villains growled, “You’ll pay—”

“Yeah, yeah, we know that dialogue already,” Hitoshi snaps, waving his hand to dismiss the bewildered villain. “Hate to interrupt your villain speech, man. But I have to call the police department and get you guys locked up, ok?” he huffed, grabbing his phone from his pocket and contacting the police, specifically their uncle Tsukauchi.

“You have your phone and you didn’t bother to call Dad earlier?!” He heard Izuku screech from behind.

He faced him, rolling his eyes when he saw his brother's jaw open, “You said you know the way, dipshit,” he sneered, pressing the call button to call their uncle.

He ignored Izuku’s cries, turning his attention back to the groceries he left at the side. He grabs it and placed his phone to his ear when Tsukauchi finally picked up. The two talked about the situation, Hitoshi telling all the details and Tsukauchi asking if they were fine.

Izuku, on the other hand, finally goes to the shivering teen at the side. He kneeled, facing the teen eye-to-eye, “Are you alright? Anything hurt?” he asked with the best smile he could manage.

The teen shakes his head, biting his lip and his cheeks stained with tears, “N-None and t-thank you…” he managed to squeak out, “T-They’ve been following me for a month now, they k-keep asking me for money but I have n-none today…” he muttered, his hands fidgeting with his school bag.

“Stop lying!” One of the villains screams and the poor teen flinched.

Izuku glances to the side, glaring at the three villains that were quick to shut up when they saw the way his lips frowned and how he activated his quirk with glowing patterns tracing his arms.

He turns his attention back to the teen, his lips curved back into a smile, “For a month? That must be terrifying,” he sympathizes, especially since he experienced the same thing for a whole different reason for 10 years.

A new set of tears flowed down the teen’s cheeks, “Y-Yeah, it s-sucks,” the teen finally broke down into a sobbing mess, covering his eyes with his arm and his shoulders shaking horribly from the suppressed tension for a month.

Izuku’s eyes watered, opening his arms to hug the teen. The teen didn’t mind, instead, he cried on Izuku’s shoulder and grabbed a fistful of his shirt at the back.

The hero-in-training smiled, whispering words of comfort as he runs his hand at the teen’s back. They stayed in that position for a few minutes before the teen finally calms down, saying his apologies for ruining Izuku’s clothes and the such.

Izuku shakes his head, saying that it was alright and he was just glad that the teen was finally feeling better, even for just a bit.

“A-Actually, they’re not the only ones who ask for money…” The teen murmured, wiping his tears with the hem of his uniform.

Izuku nodded in understanding, “Don’t worry, we’ll tell everything to the police and let them help you,” he smiles, hoping that the teen will finally feel better again. But no, the universe decided to shit on this poor teen because apparently, the police were asking him for a large sum of money for them to help him.

He’s definitely going to report that to their uncle.

“We have an uncle in the police department, he’s a detective, he’ll help,” he promises, watching as the teen nods in response. The teen may not trust him yet on that, but he never backs down on his promises.

The teen was still sad, of course, that feeling won’t just go away in an instant. So, he decided to humor him, even just for a bit.

His lips curved into a smile, “Well, if they decided not to help, have you considered mur—”

“Dad said if you say that word he’s going to put you up for adoption,” Hitoshi warned.

He glanced behind him to see Hitoshi in his full glory. His eyebrow raised, his eyes subtly burning holes at him and his hand in his pocket, with the other holding their groceries.

He must’ve finished talking to their uncle then.

“The homi—”

“That too, or any synonym and metaphor that leads to another person’s death,” Hitoshi snickers.

“Fuc—tual information that I’ll keep in mind, thank you,” Izuku continued midway his cursing.

Their parents don’t like any of them cursing. If they did, Hizashi would look at them with a disappointed gaze and that was worse than the extra hellish training that Shota would make them do as punishment.

Hitoshi swore earlier, calling him a ‘dipshit.’ He’d use that against him later.

The police arrive quickly at their destination, along with their uncle with a tired expression rivaling their Dad’s. The police apprehended the three villains with quirk-suppressing cuffs and a regular handcuff before ushering them inside the car.

Isn’t that too much of an overkill? Izuku thinks but shakes the thought off. The police know better than him anyways.

Some of them went in their direction, prioritizing the obviously traumatized teen leaning on the wall. The detective asked questions as their police medic looked for any injuries on the poor teen. Fortunately, it was just minor cuts and injuries. But he still needs to go to the hospital for a proper doctor to look for any internal injuries.

The teen thanked the two heroes-in-training before getting on an ambulance and driving off with the other police.

All that was left was them and their uncle.

“Are you two okay?” Tsukauchi sighs, facing two of his nephews. He loves them, he truly does. He just wishes that he wouldn’t see them every other day involved in another troublesome case or nonsense.

The two nodded, and Tsukauchi sighs in relief.

“I was expecting more action but Hitoshi beats me to it, this works too, I guess,” Izuku hums before an ‘Ow!’ escaped from his lips when Hitoshi jabs his side at his comment.

“Some hero student you are,” Hitoshi chides.

Tsukauchi shakes his head, watching the two banter indifference to him, “Alright, let’s get the two of you home. Aizawa’s worried sick already.” he said.

The two stopped immediately at the mention of their Dad’s name.

Izuku grimaced, and Hitoshi winced. The two finally noticed how dark it got already. The moon was up, the stars were shining brightly in the sky, but not bright enough to instill hope in their hearts from what was to come.

Hitoshi’s face fell, “Ah, we’re fucked.”

When they got home, they were greeted by Aizawa in front of the door, his arms crosses in front of his chest and a scowl on his face. The detective left immediately before they could even ask for help.

Izuku forced a smile, his body tense as he pulls every energy he has left to face their Dad, “W-We got the groceries,” he said meekly, sweats forming on his forehead and the back of his neck when Aizawa narrowed his eyes at him.

Not that Hitoshi was any better. Their Papa, Hizashi, opened the door and appeared behind Aizawa with a frown on his face and the most disappointed look that Hitoshi has ever seen.

Izuku didn’t need to snitch on him, after all. Because apparently, Hizashi was blessed with the 6th sense that every parent must have. In an attempt to save himself, Hitoshi snitched on Izuku instead.

“Izuku’s the one who got us lost!”

“Me?! You’re the older one! You’re the one who’s supposed to be guiding me!”

“I’m only older by a few days! And you’re the one who said you know the way home!”

“You know I suck at directions the same way I fucking suck at self-preservation!”

“Then why were you so confident?!”

Aizawa sighs, and the two stop immediately, “Get inside. We’ll talk after dinner, got it?” he asked with his brow raised.

The two nodded, their shoulders slacked and their expression at the edge of breaking down. Hitoshi was never been the one to cry before. Fuck Izuku and his influence on him.

He means, who would not break down if Present Mic, their literal Papa, looks at them with that look?!

Before they could get in, their Papa gives them another look of disappointment and said, “Hitoshi, Izuku, I’m very disappointed at your usage of foul languages today,” he said before following Shota inside.

Finally, that comment broke the camel’s back.

Izuku broke down into sobs and Hitoshi swore to God, that he was not crying. His eyes were just sweating from his eyes. That’s all.

The next day, if Class 2-A noticed the two teen’s puffy eyes and red face complexion, they didn’t comment on it.

“I’m never trusting you again,” Hitoshi grumbled, glaring at his brother beside him.

Izuku hissed, “I told you! We weren’t lost! We just took a long way home!”

END.
