Something, however, said those words were chosen very carefully. Less romantic, less certain, more hollow. Something a lesser man would be swept away by, because it was what they wanted to hear, but it wasn’t… Ringing true. But yet, he had been unprompted when he said he felt safe here.
“It’s too early to be thinking that much,” Sevastian said lightly, caressing his face.
“It’s always too early to be thinking about this,” Wilhuff said.
“Where’d your mind go?” Sevastian asked. He couldn’t tell him. He never could. Because if he confronted Sevastian for a truthful label, it’d go one of three ways. One, this would all end. It was a fun game but Sevastian would fold. Two, he’d let Sevastian keep playing cards of lies and fall for them every time. Or three, Sevastian would show the cards he kept close to his chest were far more feeling than the ones he let show on the table. Two would be status quo, so it was better to say nothing.
