Work Text:
(Mike’s POV)
“Will?” I said, staring at my unconscious friend.
Well, he was so much more than that…
Stop it, Mike.
“Will?” I said, more of a shout this time. “Will, wake up! WILL!!!”
I grabbed him by the shoulders, shaking him. I looked around the basement; no one was here to help.
Except for me. And I was going to do just that.
I racked my brain for what Dustin had said helped with getting rid of Vecna.
My mind kept spiraling… until it got to music.
I raced around the basement, searching for that one song, the song that Will loved more than anything (except maybe D&D).
“Where IS IT?” I screamed, tears threatening to fall from my eyes. “Come on!”
After what felt like far too long, I found it. Breathing a sigh of relief, I ran to Will, and prayed this worked. Sticking it into the Walkman, I, as carefully as I could given the situation, jammed it onto Will’s head.
The Clash sang into Will’s ears. I breathed heavily, not caring about the tears that fell onto the floor as I sat in front of my best friend, waiting for him to be alright, for him to come back to me, and not leave again.
And then, Will rose.
“NO!” I screamed, tears streaming even faster. His eyes were rolled back in his head as he lifted off the ground slowly. I could hear Will’s favorite song playing as I watched, helpless to Vecna’s power.
“Come on, Will,” I whispered, desperate for him to come back to me. “I need you. I can’t lose you. Not again.”
And just like that, as if he could hear me, Will Byers dropped to the ground.

(Will’s POV)
I looked at Mike, panting, grabbing him by the shoulders. He grabbed me too, shock and relief swirling in his beautiful dark eyes.
He was here.
And he had saved me.
“…Mike?” I whispered, gripping him hard to make sure he was here, and not another one of Vecna’s tricks. Mike’s hands grabbed my face, and mine trailed down his arms, stopping at his wrists.
“I… I thought I lost you, Will,” Mike stuttered hesitantly, his voice filled with so much worry it surprised me, his thumbs wiping away my tears even though they just kept streaming.
Mike was shaking, and so was I. My breath was coming out in short puffs; I stared into his eyes, and the barest wisp of a smile etched upon my face.
I loosened my grip on his wrists, letting my hands fall onto his knees lightly.
“But you didn’t,” I said, giving a half hearted chuckle as I averted from Mike’s brown eyes, “did you?”
Mike smiled wider than I had, and gave a real laugh, turning my face back to his as he leaned in, slowly but surely.
“Yeah,” he whispered, “I guess not.”
I chanced a glance at Mike’s lips as he slowly removed the Walkman. He looked me up and down for a brief moment, and looked like he was debating something in that head of his.
Mike’s hands slowly trailed down to my neck, and I once again shifted my gaze elsewhere, trying not to go red at how close he was.
“Will,” Mike said softly,
and I looked at him,
and he looked at me.
He waited a moment, as if to see if I would pull away, but I knew I wouldn’t. I’d waited for ages.
So Mike Wheeler kissed me.
My hands reached for his hair, gripping it tight as Mike shifted his lips against mine. He moved closer to me, and I sighed a little.
We pulled apart for what felt like ages; I missed the warmth that I’d had, being that close to Mike, being in his embrace.
“What… what about El?” I asked. Sure, it was stupid to ruin what had just been, but this wasn’t about me right now.
Mike waited for a moment, roving over the answer. We stayed there for a moment, still holding each other as I waited for the answer.
“I’m not…” he said, “I love El. But I’m not in love with her. She’s safe, familiar.” Mike pulled me closer, his lips still flushed. “But… I think I’m… I’m in love with someone else, Will.”
And with that, his lips were back on mine, and we were gripping each other closer than we had ever done before. Mike tilted my head up to meet his, and my grip on his hair only became stronger.
Mike shifted and moved up onto my lap, backing me into the wall. His hands grabbed my waist, his touch warm. I moved my touch from his hair to his neck, pressing his lips closer to me so there was only the smallest gap between us. I shuddered when Mike gave the smallest hint of a moan.
After a while, I pulled back and stared at Mike. For whatever reason, I started laughing.
Mike gave a shaky laugh too, but I could see the fear in his eyes, like he did something wrong.
“Wh- what?” he asked, voice cracking a little in a way I thought was cute.
“Nothing,” I told him, “I’d just been waiting for that for… a really long time.”
Mike smiled sheepishly and gave a real laugh.
“Yeah,” he said, leaning back in, “me too.”
