Aren't you forgetting something?

Summary:

Steve and Eddie have been living together for a couple of months. It's another typical day when Eddie stops Steve from going out to work, asking if he hasn't forgotten something. That obviously means Eddie is asking for a kiss, right?

Work Text:

Steve was almost ready to head out. Robin and him were working at a retail store since they got fired from Family Video (their boss caught them lending movies to Eddie for free, which he wasn't very happy about) and they had to find a new place. It was a pain in the ass. Steve had to get up ridiculously early and wasn't fully awake till much later.

Most mornings, Eddie also got up when he heard Steve's alarm go off and they had breakfast together. Eddie told Steve he liked getting up early to not waste the day. This was a blatant lie, he went back to bed the second Steve closed the door, but he'd never admit he got up just to spend a few minutes chatting with Steve.

This was one of those mornings. Eddie drank a cup of decaffeinated coffee while Steve drank a large black one. They talked about how hard it was for Eddie to find a job (you know, since half the town still believed he was Satan reincarnated) and how much Steve hated his'. They'd never said anything, but these short conversations were usually the highlights of both their days.

Steve got up after a couple of minutes, left his cup in the sink and headed towards the door, saying goodbye to Eddie.

"Harrington, aren't you forgetting something?" Eddie said.

Steve looked at him, watching his lopsided smile and the amusement on his face. He rolled his eyes, how many people had used that same move on him? He assumed Eddie was just joking around, trying to make him flustered, but he'd forgotten he was talking to the one and only Steve (self-proclaimed) "Chick-Magnet" Harrington, so he turned the joke around, walking towards him and getting ready to unleash his full flirting capabilities.

"You know, Munson, I should teach you some proper pick up lines. That's such a lame way of saying you want me to kiss you." He whispered, and gently kissed Eddie on the cheek. He obviously wasn't going to actually kiss him, he would probably not want that (although Steve would do it in a heartbeat if he knew Eddie was down with it).

Steve looked at Eddie, glad to find he had managed to embarrass the boy, who was now a wide-eyed mess, with his cheeks and the tips of his ears flushed red.

"What's wrong, big boy, isn't this what you wanted?"

Eddie stared at him for a few seconds before awkwardly muttering a "No" while handing Steve his keys, which he had forgotten on the kitchen counter.

Steve stood still, feeling the heat running to his face. He felt so dumb. "Oh. — Yeah, yeah, I knew that. I was just messing with you, ha. Just wanted to see how you-"

"Steve." That shut him up. They usually didn't use their first names. Felt too intimate, if that makes any sense. "I… didn't say I didn't like it."

Steve stared at the boy in front of him, wondering if he had heard him well. Maybe he was going insane, or this could be anoth- a dream. He couldn't think of anything smart or smug to say. "You did?" was all he could muster.

"I did." Steve just stood there. He'd never been the type to get tongue-tied around a crush, but Eddie seemed to be crashing all the assumptions he'd made about himself over the past few years. "You're… going to be late." Eddie said. As much as he liked having Steve's full attention, he couldn't deny the fact the guy was making him extremely nervous.

Something finally clicked in Steve's mind, and he knew just what to do. "Shit, you're right. I should go now." With that said, Steve headed to the door once more (now with his keys in hand), leaving Eddie speechless and confused. Before opening the door, he spoke again. "Oh, shit, I forgot something." He turned around and walked straight towards Eddie, standing in front of him for a second before raising his chin with his free hand.

Steve gave Eddie a quick peck on the lips and whispered a soft goodbye, feeling their lips brush as he said it.

Before Eddie could even react, Steve was already out of the apartment, leaving him there, standing in the middle of the living room with his heart beating at a hundred miles per hour.

Eddie pressed a finger against his mouth, already missing the feeling of Steve's lips on his. A soft giggle fell out of him, and even though it made him feel a little stupid, it was nothing compared to the excitement that rushed through his body.

He wondered how he'd survive the whole day, just waiting for Steve to come back so he could kiss him again, and again, and again.
