Chapter Text
Malfoy,
Forgive me for the unusual approach, but I think it’s probably better to keep this between us.
I overheard you and Parkinson talking earlier in the common room – and before you accuse me of spying, I wasn’t! I couldn’t help but hear you when I came into the room, and I couldn’t help that you didn’t see me straight away. A little tip, if you want private conversations to stay private, don’t have them in the common room and definitely don’t have your back to the door.
Anyway, as I was saying, I overheard you both talking. She was trying to set you up, I think? With – and forgive me (again) if I heard this wrong – a boy she met on holiday? You didn’t sound too keen. Not that I can blame you.
You see, I’m sort of in the same boat. Hermione and Ginny are determined to set me up with someone too, but I’m really not interested right now. I’ve been through enough in the last couple of years that actually being in a relationship is the last thing on my mind. Oh, and yes, that means I’m no longer seeing Ginny. That was… well, it was what it was at the time. I never thought it would last forever, but at the same time, I didn’t think the reason it ended would be the realisation that I don’t just find girls attractive.
So, I have a proposal for you. I think we can help each other out, while also getting a break from our friends trying to set us up with anyone and everyone. It might sound mad, but just think about it, alright?
How about you and I start a relationship with each other? Before you get too outraged, I don’t mean a real relationship, I mean we could pretend. Everyone knows we’re not in the same place as we were last year, and that we’re actually on semi-friendly terms now. We’ve even been known to sit next to each other without incident. Shocking, I know. I think we could make this work in both of our favour, although of course, we might have to make some sacrifices like an occasional arm around the shoulders or something. I would be willing to do that if it meant Hermione would stop trying to set me up with anyone she hears – or suspects – is gay.
Anyway, I’ll leave it up to you. I’m not trying to force you into anything, I just think we could take advantage of being us. Let’s face it, if we tell people we’re seeing each other, they’re unlikely to challenge us on it. We’ll be able to just get on with passing our NEWTs, even if we have to spend a bit more time with one another.
Let me know what you think. If you agree, I think we need to discuss it to come up with a proper plan. By letter is probably best, like I said earlier, I think it’s better to keep things between us for now.
Potter
