Chapter Text

“Oh no, what do we do!?” Wendy was breathless, looking at her injured teammates.

“Don’t worry Wendy, we got this,” Gray assured her, although he wasn’t too sure of himself.

Natsu and Erza looked at each other confidently, before charging their attacker.

Flashback

The guild hall was teeming with noise and chaos, as chairs were flung and bodies were beaten. A pink-haired menace was thrown across the building by his icy teammate, who was characteristically being admired by his stalker.

“Stop!” A woman clad in armor roared to get their attention.

“What is it, Erza?” Lucy and Wendy asked in unison.

“I have an interesting and well paying job for us to take.”

Natsu and Gray immediately stopped their brawl and headed over. “What do we have to do?” Gray said putting back on the clothes he had just noticed were missing.

“Apparently, there’s a mage wanted by the Magic Council. He has stolen powerful magic weapons from the council and an anonymous villager spotted him a few miles away. If we capture him, dead or alive, we’ll be rewarded 50,000,000 jewels.”

“What?!” Lucy was already thinking about leaving her crappy apartment and finding a house to live in.

“Well now, I’ve got a real fire in my belly!” Natsu said, small flames leaving his mouth.

“Aye, aye” his little blue companion chimed in, eating a smoked fish.

“Same here,” Gajeel seemingly appearing out of nowhere

Team Natsu was just about to reach the village the man was spotted in and Erza had already equipped her Benizakura.

“The thief was spotted wearing a drab green cloak and had long white hair. He was seen in a tavern not too far from here.” Erza noted, reading the quest paper, “He was able to steal from the magic council, so we must have our guards up. We’ll split into teams of two and look for him. Team A will be me, Gray, Juvia, and Wendy.”

“Yayyy, I get to be with my darling Gray,” A love-struck Juvia shouted out

“And Team B will be Natsu, Gajeel, and Lucy. Everyone ready?”

“Aye,” they all yelled in unison.

With that, the teams quickly split up and covered the terrain rather quickly.

“You guys see anything yet,” Natsu said, bored out of his mind.

“Nope,” said Lucy, and Gajeel had seen nothing either.

All of a sudden, a large boom was heard not too far away.

“Well looks like they did,” Natsu said, putting his fists together.

They quickly caught up to the source of the commotion after 2 minutes of running. When they reached their destination, there seemed to be nothing more than a graveyard of destroyed houses and fallen mages. Juvia and Wendy were already incapacitated and Gray had a large gash on his back. The only one standing was Erza with her blade out. But why wasn’t she wearing any armor?

“Lucy, stay back,” The scarlet warrior exclaimed, “He has the ability to take away spatial magic. I can’t equip any new weapons and neither will your spirits be able to be summoned.”

Lucy nervously nodded in agreement. ‘Damn, I won’t be able to help at all.”

“Well good thing we don’t use spatial magic” Gajeel and Natsu looked at each other before powering up.

The mage in question finally reappeared before them. His cloak was now nothing more than a tattered mess and there was blood dripping off his left arm. No doubt, an injury given to him by Erza.

“Oh, well even if that is the case, you will still prove nothing more than an inconvenience to me.” The attacker smirked whilst pointing to the fallen Wendy and Juvia, and the gravely injured Gray.

Gray lifted himself and spoke out, “Careful, he can shoot out slashes of spatial energy.”

“Won’t be a problem,” Natsu was ready to bring down hellfire.

Both Gajeel and Natsu let out an extreme aura of magic, causing the attacker to flinch ever so much. They let out their dragon roars simultaneously right at him. “Unison Raid: Flaming Iron Dragon’s Roar” they yelled out.

The man quickly opened up a glassy portal next to him before stepping inside, barely escaping the onslaught of fire and iron. Gajeel merely grunted in response.

The man appeared once again by the rubble of a nearby building. Erza quickly darted towards him, her demon blade fueled with her magic power. The man was able to just evade her attack but was met with a strike to the face by an elongated iron fist. He was flung back by Gajeel into a building, destroying it in the process. Before he could even get up, Natsu threw a Brilliant Flame at him, causing the building’s remain to explode in a fiery mess.

The man coughed up blood, before letting out a bone-chilling cackle. “You think you can take me down so easily.” His smile morphed into a face of contempt. He spread out his arms and then brought them together to release a wave of energy, “Spatial Blades!”

Gray wasn’t going to let him or his teammates get injured by this again. “Ice Wall!”

The blades destroyed the wall of cold but were slowed down to the point that the others could dodge, and Lucy could grab the fallen Wendy and Juvia. While all this was taking place, Carla had begun flying back to the guild as fast as she could to get reinforcements.

“Ice Lancer!” Several piercing blades of ice were directed right at the man, only to be swallowed by another shimmering portal, that opened up right in front of Natsu and Erza. The red-headed warrior was able to parry the lances, while Natsu quickly melted the rest.

Gray’s face was twisted with rage and hatred. He had been injured so badly, and now almost let his teammates get impaled by his magic. He was done playing around. “Freeze” he whispered, as a dark energy spread to cover half his body. Ice was released from him and covered the entire battlefield, save for the ground where his teammates stood. The man’s feet were frozen to the ground, and his gaze turned to Gray, “Demon magic, I see.”

Before he could free himself, the taste of iron flooded his mouth. It was blood. Natsu had struck him in the face before he could even react. The dragon slayer’s fists were now covered in blazing flames. Natsu's face spoke anger and disdain; he didn't need to talk to let his emotions be known. Before the mage could do anything to free himself, Natsu began his onslaught. He struck every inch of the man’s body with his ethereal fists, burning his flesh in the process. The man finally grabbed one of Natsu’s fists, with a deranged smile on his face, but Natsu was unfazed. His fists lost their flames and Natsu grabbed the mage’s head, yelling “Fire Dragon’s Grip Strike!” A huge bolt of fire engulfed the man’s face at point black range, sending him flying.

“My turn,” an eager iron dragon had said.

Gajeel ran towards the mage’s tumbling body, as his hands morphed into large masses of iron, “Iron Dragon’s Mallets!” He delivered several strikes to the man’s body, breaking many bones in the process. The man dodged his last attack and jumped up onto a building, blood leaking off his entire body.

“Damn, you’re all stronger than I thought, but no problem.” For a man so injured, he sure was confident, “For I am Saber, the King of Spatial Magic!” He opened up a small portal with the wave of a hand, before reaching inside to reveal a small glass bottle, with a sloshing purple liquid. He quickly drank its contents, a warm glow emanating from his body. All his wounds had healed, and a measure of his magic was restored, “Delicious.”

“This isn’t good,” a worried Lucy spoke up.

End Flashback

She was startled by the cough of the young girl she was attending to. Wendy. She remembered what happened and a look of dread crossed her face, “Oh no, what do we do?!”

“Don’t worry Wendy, we got this,” Gray assured her, although he wasn’t too sure of himself.

Natsu and Erza looked at each other confidently, before charging their attacker.

Erza jumped up to him and delivered several slashes, although only one had really gotten him. The man jumped to his left, but was met with a “Fire Dragon’s Claw.” He was launched to the ground, before being struck by another one of Gajeel’s iron fists right into the stomach. He coughed up an obscene amount of blood before finally getting up.

His look was that of a madman’s, his face holding a twisted smile and his teeth and lips drenched in blood. “It’s not enough! It will never be enough!” His body began to glow once more, but this it wasn’t from being healed. The ground began to rumble, and the sky darkened with menacing clouds. Saber let out a maniacal cackle as an enormous magic circle formed in the sky above him.

“Uh oh!” Happy was holding onto a fish for his dear life with Pantherlily failing to console him.

“You think we’re scared of that?” Natsu snidely remarked although he wasn’t entirely sure of himself.

“We won’t be able to run in time, we’ll just have to block it somehow,” Erza told them.

“I’ve got this,” Gray readied himself, his body still covered in that black darkness. He shouted as loud as he could, concentrating his magic power, “Ice Devil’s Solid Bunker!!” Just as he cast his spell, glistening blue ice enveloped all the fairy tail mages, forming a bunker.

“Time to die.” Saber raised his hands signaling the initiation of the spell.

The magic circle in the sky began to release a blinding purple light, as energy began to form. It created a large sphere, finally ready to be shot down. Saber thrust his hands down, and with it so did the gathered energy. A pillar of light struck the bunker and with it destroyed the village. Its might rivaled an etherion blast.

Saber examined all the havoc around him, blissfully enjoying its sight… until he saw something shimmering in the distance. The bunker! It was still intact. “No, no , no, NO, NO, NO, NOOOO! HOW DARE YOU STAY ALIVE!!” The bunker finally shattered, just barely able to withstand the strength of the attack.

The fairy tail members smiled at their survival, but Saber wasn’t so eager to let them leave alive. “I don’t care what I have to do! I will kill you all!!” Magic emanated from his body. At this point, if he continued, he would undergo Magic Deficiency Disease from exerting himself so much. He had barely any magic left, yet was still performing such high level spells.

Saber gathered spatial energy in his hands forming a large bow and arrow. His eyes expressed hatred and malice as he aimed his bow.

“Uh oh, guys, I don’t think I can defend against this one,” Gray said worried while holding an unconscious Juvia.

“Don’t worry, whatever happens, we’ll be together,” Erza reassured her comrades.

Saber pulled back his bow, ready to end it all.

But it never shot.

A giant bolt of golden lighting had shot out of the sky, penetrating the dark clouds and striking the wicked mage. All that was left was a giant crater and air filled with crackling electricity. Saber’s body was a burnt mess, with all that dripping blood from a moment ago having been evaporated by the lightning blast.
Out of the sky flew Laxus, being held by a smiling, white exceed.

“Carla!!” Wendy shouted, excited to be reunited with her precious cat.

They arrived to the ground, where they were greeted by their fellow Fairy Tail members.

“Carla told me you guys needed some backup. And she sure did mean it, you all are a mess.” The blonde dragon slayer joked.

“Yes well, all’s well that ends well,” remarked Erza, “I suppose that means you’ll get a cut of the reward too.”

“No!” a voice had yelled out from the ashes.

What was thought to be a burnt corpse stood up from within the crater, barely keeping his balance. “I won’t let it end like this!”

“Listen, you can’t do anything else. You’re beat, just give up.” Gajeel mocked the mage.

“Yeah, well we’ll see about that.”

The wizards readied to fight once again, wondering if he had another one of those healing potions.

Saber extended his arm, its flesh seemingly ready to fall off the bone, and opened a small portal. He pulled out a small device, with blinking lights and shiny buttons, “Remember why you took this job in the first place. I stole from the Magic Council! Well this little gadget here is a spatial magic weapon that is said to have power that transcends the universe! Unfortunately, there has never been a spatial magic user strong enough to wield it. That is until I came along.”

“I don’t think so,” Erza equipped her Flight Armor, now that Saber no longer had enough power to keep up his spatial magic blocker. She bolted towards him, but Saber pressed one of the device’s buttons and flew into the air just in enough time to evade her attack.

“HAHAHAHA, LOOKS LIKE I’VE WON!!” Saber was high in the sky. He began to press even more buttons, as the device let out an ethereal glow.

“What's happening?” A groggy Juvia had only just awoken from her sleep, to see the mess around her.

“Don’t worry, we’ll be fine,” Gray assured her.

“I’ve got this,” said Lucy as she summoned Leo, “Get him!”

Leo let out a blast of light from his hands, piercing Saber’s heart.

“We did it!” yelled Wendy.

“We sure did kiddo.” Gajeel patted her head.

Saber fell out of the sky along with the device, striking the ground with a resounding thud.

“Hey, um guys, is it supposed to be doing that?” Natsu asked, pointing to the spatial device, that was still glowing and blinking.

“I have no idea,” remarked Erza.

All of a sudden the lights grew ten times brighter and hotter, consuming the Fairy Tail mages. They became enveloped by warbling spatial magic. It forced Leo’s gate to close and undid Erza’s equipping of her armor. This was the ultimate spatial magic that allowed no other magic like it to exist in its presence.

The energy sucked the mages into the device and then transported them into some sort of wormhole.

“Woahhh! What’s all this?” Natsu was stunned as they went zooming through the wormhole, seeing images of different worlds along the way.

Lucy felt a strange feeling overcome her, and felt her connection with her celestial spirits somehow crack, but not completely break, “I don’t feel so good about this, guys.”

While they were only in the wormhole for a small moment, it had felt like hours to them. During their time inside, all their wounds had healed, and their energy and magic had been replenished.

“I feel like a whole new person, don’t you Gray darling?” Juvia felt like she had gone through a magical detox.

“Yeah, I do. But just because it feels good doesn't mean it is good.” After he had said that, a white light appeared at the end of the wormhole as the wizards neared their destination.

A vast portal opened up in the sky of this new place, and they were all spat out.

“Ahhhhhh!!!!” screamed Lucy, terrified of falling to her death.

Fortunately, there was no way this fall could kill a wizard, especially wizards of Fairy Tail’s caliber. Nonetheless, Wendy let out a blast of wind magic, surrounding them and stopping their fall, before gently lowering them down to the ground.

“Woah! What is this place” Gray was star-struck by these huge buildings that seemed to pierce the sky itself, and zooming vehicles that seemed to surpass their own magic-fueled cars at home.

“It looks like some sort of a Utopia,” said Erza

“Or some sort of dystopian world, you never know.” Laxus had followed.

“Well, whatever it is, there better be some fish.” Happy said, still chewing on a piece of fish he had before they went on their mission.

“Guys look!” Natsu pointed to a billboard, showing a large, muscular man, wearing a silly-looking blue and red skintight suit. Above it, read ‘All Might, The Number 1 Hero.’

“How strange,” Erza remarked, attempting to study it and this new world around them.

“Wait guys, I can figure out where we are!” Lucy excited to help, held out a silver key and shouted, “Open Gate of the Southern Cross! Crux!” But nothing happened. “Huh?! All my magic was restored, what’s going on!”

Before she could get a response, a giant, wearing another one of those skintight suits appeared from down the street chasing a monster with a bag of money.

Meanwhile back in the world of Fairy Tail, the spatial device had finally stopped glowing, right before it cracked in two.

Notes:

Uh oh, what's goin on with Lucy
