Work Text:
It was a hot, beautiful, sunny day. Perfect for relaxing at the beach or so Uraraka thought. All Uraraka wanted to do was sit on her towel and soak in the sun. Her friends had different ideas.
Sero was determined to create a kite from his tape, some tried their hand at building sand sculptures, and the rest decided to play volleyball, swim, or explore the beach town. Uraraka rejected it all for some peace and quiet.
"Cheeks, what are you doing?"
Uraraka opened one eye, shielding her face with her hand. Bakugou stood above her with a volleyball under his arm.
"Don't try to convince me, Bakugou. I'm tired."
"I'm not convincing you, I'm telling you. Get your ass up and play! We'll beat them to a pulp together."
Uraraka smiled at him.
"While I appreciate the implied compliment on my volleyball skills, you don't own my ass. So it's staying put."
Bakugou scowled and lightly kicked the sand in frustration.
"Whatever. Be a loser and sleep the day away. Who wants your ass anyway?"
The answer was that Katsuki Bakugou very much wanted that ass. Perfect in every way, connected to the gutsiest gal in Japan, and strong enough to deadlift Katsuki if needed. Bakugou wanted to tell her this but Uraraka always made it more difficult to say words around her.
Bakugou had stumbled over sentences or resorted to holding his tongue around her for years. It was getting close to 'now' or 'never' for him. Since Uraraka was too stubborn to join in activities with others, Bakugou shifted his focus into destroying the opposing volleyball team.
After a swift victory, Bakugou dared to glance in Uraraka's direction. She'd flipped to her stomach, obviously asleep, and Bakugou looked away before anyone noticed him staring at her.
"Oh, I hope Ochako remembered to put sunscreen on," Tsu said.
Bakugou wouldn't have been surprised if a lightbulb had appeared over his head at that moment, lit so bright that it was on the verge of exploding.
"I'll make sure," Bakugou said with a mischievous grin.
"That's...nice of you?" Tsu looked at the others and they all shrugged.
Bakugou ran over to Uraraka and noticed the beginnings of a sunburn on her shoulders. Perfect. He carefully fished around her bag for sunscreen. Uraraka didn't stir as he applied sunscreen to her body, which he was thankful for. Her waking up right now would ruin his plan.
Bakugou finished up, leaving only one partially exposed butt cheek to work as his canvas. He took a pen that he'd found in Uraraka's bag and dipped the end of it in sunscreen. After a couple minutes of nerve-wracking writing, he was done. Now all he had to do was wait.
When Uraraka woke up, Bakugou had played several games of volleyball and had swam in the ocean long enough that he wanted to lay down too. From the shore, Bakugou watched her stretch, yawn, then wince when she turned to sit. She got up, looking confused, and went straight to Tsu.
"Oh, fuck," Bakugou muttered.
"'Oh, fuck' what?" Kaminari asked. Suddenly Uraraka's head snapped toward Bakugou, and rage spread across her round face.
"I'm an idiot."
"Welcome to the club." Kaminari patted Bakugou's back then backed away as Uraraka stomped her way over.
"Bakugou!" Uraraka shouted.
"You're on your own." Kaminari ran away to swim with Jirou and Bakugou prepared for flight into the stratosphere.
"What the hell?" Uraraka yelled. Bakugou had stupidly assumed Uraraka would not notice right away and it'd be a fun laugh when she did.
Uraraka plowed through the shallow water, stopped, and glared at Bakugou with her hands on her hips. His name read well against her bright red skin. Involuntarily, Bakugou laughed at the sight, which resulted in Uraraka yelling in anger as she tackled him.
"Shit-" Bakugou managed to get out before he went underwater. Uraraka banged on his chest and he could somewhat make out a string of insults and curse words before he came up for air.
"-and all for a joke!" she finished. "It would've been funny if you hadn't burned me!"
"Wait, what?" Bakugou asked, his head just above water as Uraraka straddled him. He quickly focused on her cute, angry face instead of the knowledge that she was sitting on him. "You're not mad at the joke?"
Uraraka shook her head then flicked him on the forehead.
"I'm mad that you used my pen to write with sunscreen."
"What was I supposed to do? Use my finger?"
Uraraka's eyes widened with disbelief.
"You could've used the pen to write your name without hurting me."
Bakugou's face fell. It hadn't even crossed his mind.
"It's more permanent this way," Bakugou bullshitted.
"You're an idiot," Uraraka said. Bakugou eyed her pinkies hovering over his abdomen. With an exasperated sigh, she got off him to go back to her spot. Bakugou couldn't help but watch his name sway side to side as she walked.
"You're lucky I have a sense of humor," Uraraka called back then pointed to his name on her cheek. "Maybe you'll be wise enough to take responsibility and care for your work of art."
"Bakugou, you better-" Kaminari started but Bakugou was already running after her.
"I'm not that stupid!" Bakugou shouted back.
"You know, you could've just asked me out," she said, kneeling down on her towel and picking up the pen Bakugou had used.
"Where's the fun in that?" he asked, mentally kicking himself as he sat next to her. Uraraka bit her lip, and leaned over with the pen in hand.
"You may have a point." Bakugou stayed still and silent as she wrote 'Property of Ochako Uraraka' on his pec. When she was done, she admired her work. "There. That's more specific than just a signature."
Bakugou started to relax but Ochako pulled on his arm to keep him upright.
"Oh no you don't," she said. "I meant what I said."
Bakugou smirked as Uraraka handed him a bottle of aloe.
