Work Text:
Kronii knew what she was getting herself into when she suggested a fanfiction review stream. It was something that had been on the back burner for a while now but never had the nerve to go through with it until recently. It happened just as she thought it would, with story after story being submitted and read aloud about both herself and Mumei. She was asking for it, she knew, which was why it took so long to build the courage needed to bring her friend along for the ride.
She had explicitly asked for things to be kept safe for work, more so for her heart rate than anything else. A little spice was nice, and she certainly saw her fair share of art and fics of them in that regard, but for this plan to work she needed everything to flow smoothly. As smoothly as it could for her in any case.
The stream went well, only pausing a few times to fumble over words, to laugh at obvious innuendo that she clearly understood before it was explained by chat, and to make Mumei read the parts that got a little too intimate for her. Yet the hard part was yet to come. With the ending screen up and the microphones muted, she had to make her next move before she lost her chance.
“That was some stream, huh?” Kronii’s voice was clearly nervous but she pushed herself to keep going. “Who would have thought so many of them would be about us? Ah ha... haha.”
Although Mumei gave her an amused look, she still answered anyway. “Of course they would be, we reviewed them together.” They had met up again for another off-collab, one more added to the ever-growing list that they had together. “I’m surprised it didn’t get as spicy as I thought. I’ve seen the tags on Ao3, our fans are a bit crazy.”
“Oh. Oh yeah, they sure are!” A hand went to their bluish-black hair to push back from her face. “Uhm, so which was your favorite one? What part?” A swallow made the time warden’s throat flex dryly. She had asked it, and now she felt her stomach turning in knots while waiting for the reply.
“Mmn, I’m not sure.” Mumei leaned back in her chair and moved side to side while mulling the question over. “We asked for the cliché romantic trope thing so they were all pretty much similar in that regard. I think they were all great, in their own unique way.” A small nod to herself confirmed her answer. “How about you?”
“Well...” Kronii’s hands moved to motion in the air while talking. “There was one that was really nice... It had a good feel to it. Portrayed us well.”
Mumei’s eye lit up. “The one where I wall slammed you and asked you to the dance!?”
“Wha-no!” Although that would have been how it happened if they had attended high school together.
“Oh, the one where I saved you from the bad guys and carried you princess style?”
Kronii flinched. “No, Mumei! Not that one!”
The barn owl’s expression only grew more and more gleeful as she recalled the stories they read. “Where that motorcycle blew up and I swept in and caught you and-”
“The one where I kissed you!” Kronii’s voice cut over Mumei’s rambling and shocked them both into silence. Each second on the clock ticked loudly in their room, the air heavy with tension from both the confession and the need to reply to it. Ever so slowly Kronii licked her lips and gulped down once more. This was what she had built up to... now she just needed to see the girl’s reaction.
Mumei’s bright eyes lifted to look up at Kronii’s. The mood softened noticeably and the gentle smile on her face made the taller one relax with a soft sigh of relief. It was then that the feathered one spoke cheerfully up at her with that hint of brattiness that she was known for. “You wouldn’t do that, you don’t have the guts.”
“Hah!?” That wasn’t the response she had been expecting.
“You wouldn’t, coward.” Mumei accused her with a gleam of knowing in her eye.
“Oh? Oh! Ohhhh! I would I so would!” Kronii moved forward and braced her hands onto the armrests of Mumei’s chair. “I would!”
“Do it then!”
“I will! Just watch me!”
“Yeah? I’m waiting.” Mumei leaned forward a bit more as well. Excitement was radiating from her, lips turned up in a smile while reaching to press that final button of her friend’s. “Do it, Kronii.”
Just like that Kronii darted forward for their lips to connect. A bit rushed from the adrenaline laced behind it, but full of emotions nonetheless. When it ended, the two locked eyes while breathing against each other. Time seemed to tick by slower than normal, each one basking in the line that had been crossed in that moment. “Any other commands, Mumei?” Kronii’s voice was soft now, a pleased and docile expression on her face now that she finally did what she had been wanting to.
“Yes...” Arms reached up to drape over the warden’s shoulders. “Do it again.”
