i nudged the joysticks to wake up my control panel. a wave of blue light spilled over the dash; the words on buttons flicked on, graphs maxed out and then leveled, the borders of switches lit up, and the constellation analysis began to scroll on the screen that was front and center. even after nearly two thousand hours at the helm of starships, the kid inside me who always dreamed of being a cosmonaut was thrilled at the sight. "ready, doc," i chirped, grasping the joysticks and taking a deep breath.
500 years into earth's future, peter parker was a student cosmonaut aboard the os, an ark colony ship bound for the planet aeres lightyears away. otto octavius, director of cosmonautics (d. o. c.) and peter's mentor, was the navigator and pilot controlling the ship. one night, the staff of the ship were called to a meeting, and peter's lifelong dream was ripped to shreds before his eyes. doc was forced to take on far more responsibilities than he would normally be able to handle—normalcy being bled away with each "upgrade" received, replacements to his physical form clouding his sense of identity.
