Work Text:
The pair was back at the bunker. Eda was still adjusting to her severed arm and they were both still processing the trauma of the last few days and the sudden disappearance of Luz, King, and the others. However, they had each other, which made things a bit more bearable.
It was on the third day that Eda noticed the restrained stims of her... Ex? Friend? Whatever.
When they were younger, Raine had never felt the need to mask around her, but now it was different. She supposed it only made sense- They'd been apart for so long and so much had happened between the pair. It would make sense if Raine didn't feel as comfortable around her as they once had. Still...
"Why are you masking around me, Raine?"
"I don't know what you're talking about"
"Come on" Eda pressed. "You know I won't judge you"
"That's not..."
"What is it, then?"
"I don't want to seem weak"
...
"Raine..."
"The world is coming apart, Eda" Raine replied, their voice strained with anxiety. "And I can't afford to seem unreliable or weak by doing my ridiculous-"
"Stop" Eda said firmly, taking their hand in her own. "It's not ridiculous, and you don't look weak or unreliable for it" she assured them. "You deal with emotions in your own way, and that's perfectly okay"
"But-"
"No buts" Eda cut them off. "Except mine. Because it's great"
"Eda"
"Do your fidgeting" Eda told them firmly. "It helps you, and I don't want you to feel the need to mask. Not with me"
...
"Okay"
"I love you, Rainstorm"
"Love you too"
