Chapter Text
He was supposed to have called today. Jane sat by the window, watching impatiently for an arrival that never came, feeling her stomach drop lower with each passing hour. She felt hollowed out, emptied. She was so very tired.
He knew how difficult she was finding all of this secrecy; he knew she was feeling particularly low; he knew that she was craving a visit, even a short one, her aunt chattering ceaselessly away and hovering over them both. Just being around him would cheer her, and he had not come.
She tried not to think about what that meant.
