Chapter 1: Breaking out of the trance.

Chapter Text

*

Nancy's pupil's enlarged and she fell to the floor with a quick thud, landing on her back. It was quite clear to see that she was shaken, most likely with fear. Steve Harrington immediately ran to her side and held her, murmuring comforting words and trying to coax a reply out of her.
"Nancy? Are you okay? Hey, you're alright, you're okay... It's me, Steve, I'm here.." Steve was almost on the verge of gripping her tightly, as if to try and cut off her blood flow.
"Y-yeah," Nancy croaked out, willing herself to not break out into a hyperventilating mess.

At this point, Robin was coming down the rope to the Upside Down, brandishing two cassette tapes, one being Madonna and the other being Black Sabbath. She fell harshly onto the mattress from a decent height, and groaned. As she hoisted herself up, she brought out Max's cassette player and headphones, rambling as she did.

"I-I know she's definitely not a metalhead, like, someone like her could never love a genre of music so harsh, but, just in the slight case she was I brought down some Black Sabbath, even though it most likely won't work, but, you know, surprises can happen, even miracles, you know this one time-"

Robin looked down and saw Nancy whimpering in Steve's grasp, obviously traumatized by what she saw.
"Oh- Oh my God. Nance?" Robin sprinted over to them, and immediately knelt by her side, opposite to Steve.

"Nancy? Jesus, Nance, are you okay? D-D'you need anything?" She grasped Nancy's free hand, though lightly as not to hurt her.

"Good. I'm.. good." Nancy barely whispered, slowing her breathing.

Steve eye'd her worryingly. "We should get her out of here. Robin, can you-"
Nancy cut him off. "I can go back up. Just.. Make sure I don't cross over midway again."

The two nodded, gripped her from either side by the arm, and hauled her to her feet. Nancy stumbled, instinctively leaning onto the closest person to her, which was Robin.

"Woah, if you need us to carry you-" Steve started, but Nancy interrupted.

"I'm okay, Steve. I just- I just need to get out of here." There was a strain to her voice, reminding him of Robin's raspy voice.

Nancy let go of Robin and wandered over to the rope made out of bedsheets. Robin followed, and repeated the act she did before of getting down on one knee to give her a much needed boost.

--

Nancy was now sitting on the sofa, with a blanket around her shoulders and a cup of hot tea in her hands. Sitting directly next to her was Robin, refusing to leave her side in hopes of comforting her friend. Steve, along with Eddie and Erica, had left, leaving only Dustin with the two girls. He sat on the opposing chair, cross legged and looking over at Nancy every now and then.

It was awkward.

"Steve said before he left that there were snacks in the fridge, do you want to check them out, Dustin?" Robin suggested, so to give Nancy some personal space. She was going to find an excuse to leave Nancy alone too, but something in the back of her head was nagging Robin to stay with her.

Dustin caught on after a few seconds and left, muttering "More for me." He stopped in the doorway and looked back at Nancy.
"I can call for Steve to come back if you'd like, or Eddie.. y'know, to tell us about what happened?" He shoved his hands in his pockets awkwardly.
Nancy smiled slightly and shook her head. "Steve would only question me endlessly, and then try to comfort me." She set down the cup onto the coffee table, and got up.

"Come on. I can give you both a ride home." They were in Steve's house, since his parents were out of town. Nancy's car was parked outside, Steve must have taken his parent's spare.

--

Dustin jumped out of the car, gave a thumbs up to Nancy and Robin, and walked up to his house.
"His parent's are going to kill him for being out so late," Robin laughed.
Nancy offered a small chuckle, and set off for Robin's street.

The car was silent, besides the obvious hum from the engine, and there was a thick but comfortable tension in the car.
"So.." Nancy began.
"How's Vickie?"

Robin looked like she had just been shot.
"Who told you about her?" Robin's voice crackled out.

Nancy glanced at her. "I overheard you and Steve by accident one time. But you don't need to be worried, I support you Robin."

Robin wasn't taking it in. "I.. uh.. well, she has a boyfriend, so." Robin mumbled nervously.

Shit. She didn't want Nancy to know she was a lesbian. She didn't know why, they were good friends. Nancy trusted her, and Robin trusted Nancy. So why didn't Robin feel comfortable anymore?

Nancy tapped on the steering wheel awkwardly. 'Fuck, I hit a nerve,' she thought.
"Robin, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up-"

"No, it's fine, I was planning on telling you anyway." Robin half-lied.

She was going to tell Nancy, but was only when she was confident enough. Which would probably be in a few years, judging by the fact she didn't feel confident at all.

The car passed through the houses in silence, until Nancy stopped outside Robin's.

Robin unbuckled her seatbelt and began to open the door, only to be stopped by Nancy.

"Hey.. Robin?"

Robin immediately stopped and resumed full attention on Nancy.

"I'm... sorry I asked about Vickie. I didn't want to make things weird. I was just looking for small talk." Robin had noticed Nancy stopped shivering, and the colour was returning to her face. She looked pretty.

Robin instantly flushed. Pretty? No, Robin. You're just getting over Vickie, and over the fact Nancy knows your gay, why are you making weird comments about her?

"It's err, no problem, Nance. Like I said, I was bound to tell you anyway, hahah." She gave a grin, trying to hide the now obvious flush. Oh God, Buckley.

Nancy raised an eyebrow as she noticed the flush. "I'll call your house phone tomorrow if you want to talk."

Robin nodded quickly, gave a thumbs up gesture and opened the car door.

"Oh, and hey, thank you for um. Comforting me back there. Kinda embarrassing but, I appreciate you. And Steve." Nancy gave a smile.

Robin wanted to just stare at Nancy. What is happening? One second you're comforting her, the next being found out, and now falling for her like it's no big deal? 'What the fuck,' Robin thought.

Nancy waved a hand. "Earth to Robin. You okay?"

Robin shook her head, muttered an apology and thanked Nancy before storming out of the car and up to the door.

"Jesus Buckley, pull yourself together now. Shit's moving too fast." Robin chittered as she grabbed her keys from her jacket pocket.
