Celebrations With Candy

Summary:

Day 23 Candy: Mira launched her streaming career and the humans celebrate

Work Text:

Mira had finally launched her streaming career and even managed to leave her room. It was thanks to Ian. She’d been so scared of him getting hurt she managed to go outside again. Those bruises still stuck out in her mind. She shivered before pulling open the door and finding the human size living room full of her siblings. Alessia may not be part of the family officially yet, but she was basically her sister.

“Mira! Mom brought us some giant size candy,” Rhys smirked. She saw Dabria’s hand retreating from the human sized space. She froze up seeing the hand freeze and rub Ian’s head. The younger boy laughed as the finger pulled away.

“Enjoy the celebration, I’ll be here if you need anything. Vitus should be back late tonight, he’ll try not to wake you all up,” Dabria said.

Her voice had Mira on edge. She couldn’t handle how loud she was even when she was being quiet. Rhys put a hand on her shoulder, it was grounding. She could barely breathe as the steps rumbled away from them. She tried not to shake, but Rhys wound up pulling her into a hug. He just rubbed her head as she waited for the steps to completely fade. Thankfully Dabria went upstairs and to the opposite side of the house.

“It’s ok Mira, you’re safe,” he whispered. She nodded into him, desperate to make it feel real too. It was easier when they were with her. At least she could manage to speak sometimes.

“Mira,” Ian called. He came over with a bright smile. He was so different from how he’d been when he showed up here. “Are you alright? We don’t have to do this out here.”

“I’m fine Ian,” she tried.

He didn’t believe her at all. She saw the concern in his face as Rhys started to pull away. Ian tried to slip past her into her room. She grabbed his shirt and moved past Rhys pulling Ian along. She sat on the floor on the far side, they had wanted her to play the game that got her started. A horror game that would terrify all of them, she was sure.

Alessia came and sat next to her with two handfuls of candy ripped off the giant piece. She grabbed it with some hesitation, she didn’t like to think about how big their food was in comparison. She still ate what she was given, forcing a smile. Alessia placed an arm around her shoulders and squeezed.

“Are you ready?” Alessia asked. Ash walked over and sat on the couch near them eating some candy too. They offered her a smile, they were planning to be a buffer along with Rhys.

“Of course, PinkEyedMiracle starting the best horror game this year,” she laughed. It was almost easy to forget where she was like this. Ian came and sat next to her too. Rhys sat closer to the huge piece of candy to pass them pieces throughout the night.

It started easily enough, they were joking and laughing as she played. It was shockingly easy to avoid thinking about the open wall of the room. Of course sitting next to the couch where she couldn’t see it well helped a lot. As the night drew on the sugar high each of them got from the candy wore off. She laughed when Ash fell asleep first. They had a lot more than they’d ever admit. Rhys followed, then Alessia and Ian at the same time. She was pulled down with how they had stuck themselves to her in fear.

She sighed as she hit the buttons she’d memorized to turn off the system. She didn’t care about where she was in the game, she just had fun. It was nice when she could forget about everything. The four with her were the only ones she really spoke to anymore. Ian had suggested this, he’s going to try it out too. She knows it’ll work out for him.

She tried to fall asleep with the two holding her tightly, but it was hard. The room was a lot darker than she could really handle. She didn’t want to turn the game back on, it would wake everyone up. Each time she shut her eyes she saw herself stuck in that place, the echoing voices feigning concern. She kept hearing the words her parents had told her. Giants were dangerous and she can never put herself at risk.

She held back tears as the memories started to flood her mind. No one needed to wake up to her crying. She knew where she’d messed up and how things were her fault. Her parents would be here if she hadn’t been so foolish. She took a shuddering breath and the arms around her tightened again. She smiled, even asleep they were trying to help her.

The blood in her veins turned to ice as she heard a door opening. She knew that sound well, it was the giant front door. She tried to calm down as the sound of footsteps seemed to match her pulse. She could barely breathe as the door shut and they seemed so much heavier. Her entire world shook with each step, no one else even reacted. They were too deeply asleep.

The thoughts in her head were racing. This was the plan. The candy was a ploy to hurt them, to trap them. She tried not to shake as the world seemed to shake even more. The darkness seemed to get darker and a giant form was cast over them. She had a scream stuck in her throat as the sound of shifting fabric echoed in their small space. A sigh blew over as an angry face filled the bit of space she could see out of into the giant room. All she could see was anger in the emerald eyes looking over them.

Vitus’s hands were making their way into the small space. She couldn’t make the scream come out as a finger touched Rhys. She didn’t relax when all that happened was he fell to his side. Ash had the same treatment. She squeezed her eyes shut as the hand came near the three on the floor. She knew it would finally happen. Squeezed in a hand so much bigger than the one she knew before. Instead a cloth found its way over them.

“I told her not to give you guys this,” he said. Mira shivered as he spoke.

He sounded so angry. The two holding her each rolled onto their other sides and she felt alone. The huge hand grabbed the candy, it was completely dwarfed by his fingers. She let out the smallest sound and saw the fingers twitch. She was sure she’d be grabbed in the next second, but all that happened was the candy being pulled away. She almost screamed as she saw the huge hands unwrapping the rest of it and hearing him chew it.

The giant just left without another sound. She curled in on herself and felt the tears start falling. A loud click sounded and she gasped. A light somewhere else turned on and faintly lit up the room she and the others were in. She started crying in relief. She wished this was easier.

Vitus sighed as he made his way upstairs. He knew it was too dark for Mira, even if she’d managed to fall asleep. It would be easier for her to wake up with the light, it shouldn’t bother the others much. He just hoped that the offer he made on the house they found went through. A gift for the start of her career, and a way to stop having giants around her all the time.
