Chapter Text
]The sun was just barely rising above the snow dusted mountains towering above the rest of Melave, and the Pokemon family’s house was already bustling with activity as the yellow-gold rays of sunlight filtered through the large windows.
Technoblade and Wilbur, Tommy’s older brothers, were outside battling on their battlefield - not for long however. Cheers of joy from Wilbur and groans of annoyance from Techno signaled the winner and loser, as the pink-haired man walked over to his fallen Pokemon.
Techno’s outfit was one that a lot of people liked to question. Most days, when he was battling trainers, he wore a white fancy shirt and a large red cloak with a fur lining to it. He also had pink dyed hair and most of the time, wore a golden crown with red jewels, as well as plenty of jewelry. Currently however, his outfit was a simple tacky shirt that read “I don’t do mornings” and sweatpants matched with a green emerald earring.
Wilbur was just as extravagant most days as his older twin. Normally his outfit consisted of a large dark brown trench coat that had one too many pins and patches over a yellow long-sleeve sweater. He never got hot in it, even in the summer heat. It was a mystery how the brunette was able to stand it.
He also wore circular glasses, as he hated wearing contacts. Right now though he wore a maroon sweatshirt with the name of some band on it, Lovejoy, combined with black pants of some material Tommy didn’t know. A few of his many tattoos were showing since one of his sleeves was rolled up.
Tommy himself was sitting at the table, eating some eggs and bacon while watching some random video of people battling. His Chimchar was jumping around their whole dining room. The boy’s father, Philza,’s Unphezant carefully grabbed Big Man (The Chimchar) with its beak and set it on the ground. Seemingly scolding the fire-type as the monkey Pokemon just stood there, almost rolling its eyes.
Phil sat across from his youngest son, wearing a simple green t-shirt with a black jacket over top of it. His green and white striped bucket hat that usually covered his blonde hair sat on the table next to him. As the boy glanced up, he noticed his father looking at some paper he said was a letter with a tired expression. He didn’t particularly know the contents of the letter, but he did know that it had to do with the Pokemon League, as the champion’s seal was on it.
His family got letters from the League all the time. Since his father and oldest brother were gym leaders and Wilbur was one of the elite four, it wasn’t uncommon to see the seal. However what was odd was his father looking worried about a single letter.
Techno and Wilbur opened the door to the backyard, walking into the room with a small smile from Wilbur and the neutral expression from Techno he always wore. However underneath it was obviously an excited.. No, just happy - look that he had whenever talking to his family.
“So Tommy..”
Tommy looked up at his father, who was at the kitchen counter. Tommy was sitting at the table, watching his phone before his dad spoke. The boy was wearing a white and red shirt, his Chimchar pausing from his spot on the boy’s shoulder. “Yeah?”
Techno and Wilbur sat on both sides of Tommy and he couldn’t help but pause, wondering if he had done something wrong. He racked his brain, but couldn’t think of anything he may have done wrong. Other than maybe insult a few old men down in the town, but they all deserved it! Big Man chittered softly, tilting its head curiously.
“Good luck on your adventure, nerd. Me, Dad, and Wil have been dying to tell you that. But we wanted to save it for today.” Techno patted his brother on the back softly with a small rare smile on his face. Tommy’s eyes widened and his face practically shone with happiness.
“Dad, Wil, and I.” Wilbur corrected under his breath, causing his twin brother to gently hit the man’s arm. The man in maroon just rolled his eyes, crossing his arms. But he looked at Tommy with a happy expression.
“Aw, jeez.. Really?” Tommy laughed softly, Big Man jumped onto his head, causing Tommy’s head to dip for a moment before he looked up at his family with an excited expression. He had been planning this adventure to become the Champion for years, but only recently actually finalized what he would do. One of his friends liked to have a plan they could stick to instead of going around the region without a care, like the other two.
Wilbur grinned even wider, picking up the fire type from the boy’s head. Big Man protested, but still allowed Wilbur to pick him up, perching on the man’s shoulder with a single small chirp noise. Its head tilted once more. “Hell yeah. We’re rooting for you to become Champion!”
“Indeed we are.” Techno added in his monotone voice with a smile, but it almost looked like there was an underlying sadness in his smile. He always got that way whenever they talked about the champion, but Tommy had never bothered to ask why.
Tommy looked at his brothers and father with a wide grin, watching as Phil moved to grab a small backpack. Knowing his family..
“Oh come on you guys- was this really necessary?” The boy laughed but accepted the gifts, rummaging through it quickly. As he expected, there were potions, revives, heals for burns and poison, TMs, PokeBalls; even a few Great Balls, probably courtesy of the boy's mother - everything you could think of. He expected this much from them really. They always went over the top when it came to the youngest member of their family.
Techno chuckled, messing with his brother’s hair softly. Tommy scoffed and rolled his eyes but didn’t move away. He secretly enjoyed these little moments between his family, since it didn't happen often.
His Chimchar made a small huffing noise as the chimp-like pokemon attempted to clamber onto Tommy's shoulder once. It had gone from Wilbur’s shoulder to the floor, before jumping back onto its trainer. Phil's Unfezant watched the pokemon with an even, yet not angry, glare.
Techno’s Lucario stood behind him, a small almost human-like smile on its face. Tommy stood up, grabbing the bag full of items. He held out his arm for his Chimchar, who immediately climbed onto it. The fire-monkey settled onto the boy’s shoulder with a comfortable chirp.
He grinned at his family, pausing for a moment as he looked outside towards the morning light, exclaiming in surprise as the sunlight hit him directly in the eyes. He brought his hand up to shield his eyes and turned around, uncovering his eyes and blinking a few times.
Wilbur and Techno laughed, and a small chuckle came from Phil. “You good there mate?” Tommy scoffed, rolling his eyes.
“Of course I am! The sun has nothing on me!” He put his hands on his sides, chin held up proudly as his older brothers continued laughing in the background. Tommy scowled at both of them, and the laughter died down slowly, albeit not entirely. He flipped them off with both hands, and Wilbur returned the insult. Techno just shrugged it off.
“Alright alright. Tommy, go and meet up with Tubbo and Ranboo. I suggest going to S--”
“Nope! We’re going to Sam’s Gym first, no matter what you say.” Tommy grinned, starting to walk towards the door as he looked back at his father. “And then at the end, we’ll be coming to fight you and Tech!” Techno returned a small smile as his dad just nodded, a large smile on his face still. "And then you Wil!" He grinned towards his other brother, who just gave him an amused look.
Tommy opened the door, freezing as he looked out of it. He turned around towards his family, running to first hug his father. The Pokemon on his shoulder leapt off, landing next to Phil’s Unfeazant. Phil wrapped his arms around his son, laughing softly.
A blue light came from Wilbur’s pocket, and suddenly, a blue and white cat-like Pokemon stood next to the bird and monkey Pokemon. Wilbur and Techno watched the two bigger ones say goodbye to the small fire-type, small chirps and other light noises coming from all three.
Tommy then turned to Wilbur, who happened to be slightly closer than Techno. He didn’t say a word still, just hugged his older brother. After a few moments he moved over to Techno, who mumbled a small, “Good luck, Theseus.” Tommy rolled his eyes but smiled as he walked over to the trio of Pokemon.
The nickname from his oldest brother was always nice to hear. He’d been called that ever since he was four, and Techno read him Greek Myths; much to Phil’s distaste, he always thought the boy was far too young to hear those kinds of stories. Tommy had always enjoyed them however.
He crouched down, smiling at all three of the different Pokemon. “Bye bird bitch.” The Unfeazant made a small annoyed chirp, but it moved to rest its head on the boy’s knee for a moment. Wilbur’s Meowstic looked over at Techno’s Lucario, and they nodded.
Tommy’s head tilted slightly as he saw the small blue Pokemon activate its psychic powers, looking around. He noticed a small oval object floating in the air, pausing as it hovered above him. He reached out to grab it, curious.
Upon further inspection, it was a keychain. A keychain that held a small disc print with a purple and white striped music disc, and Tommy laughed. He always joked about the old record player his father kept, and how Mellohi was his favorite.
He looked at both of the Pokemon with a smile and then turned to their trainers with an accusing half-glare. “You pricks almost forgot to give me this!” Wilbur rolled his eyes and pointed towards the door.
“Go on already. You don’t want to be late, do you?” Tommy stood up, his Pokemon scrambling up until he was perched on the boy’s shoulder again. The boy in red and white walked over to the open door, looking back at his family again.
“Oh stop acting like you’ll never see us again, you will in a few days. Maybe weeks, if you take forever. It’ll be fine.” Techno encouraged, smiling at the slightly younger boy. Tommy nodded, and turned away, walking out the door with a grin.
He closed the door behind him, taking a simple look around. The scenery was the same as it always had been. The bright green leaves on the trees, the tall grass. But it felt different than usual. For the first time, he would be going out for much longer. He wouldn’t be home for who knows how long.
It was exciting. He ran down the steps and over the small bridge above a stream, his Chimchar making happy chattering noises while sitting on Tommy’s shoulder. A group of Fletchling flew overhead as the slight breeze blew through the forest.
The boy’s footsteps on the gravel reminded him he would have to be careful sometimes. While adventures like his could be fun, he knew from his family, they could also be dangerous. But Tommy didn’t care. He just kept running down the path, occasionally passing a wild Pokemon or two. He ignored them, just kept running to the forest he could see not too far from his home.
He paused as he got to the fork in the road, standing on the path. It wasn’t that he was afraid to go in. He was waiting for a few people. So he stopped, walking to stand next to a tree and tap his foot impatiently. His Chimchar jumped into the tree, vanishing from view for a few seconds.
Tommy trusted his Pokemon not to run away. They’d been around each other for most of their lives, but didn’t really fight. Of course they watched Techno and Wilbur constantly. They always loved sitting in the stands of Techno and Phil’s gym, cheering on his older brother or father and insulting the challenger. Occasionally insulting his family when he felt like it.
A lot of trainers called him “The Annoyance”, and anyone who was planning on going to the Fighting or Flying gyms had to know who he was or they were in for a treat.
Of course, he wouldn’t be able to do that anymore now that he would be away from the shared gym most of the time. But, he figured he’d be the one people did that to now. It filled him with some kind of pride, knowing that he’d be taking on the gyms and most likely beating his family.
It didn’t take too long for a surprisingly tall boy with twin Espurr to come into view, followed by a much smaller boy with a Skiddo. The shorter one had his hand resting on his Pokemon’s horns, which the Pokemon didn’t seem to mind. In fact, it seemed happy, which in turn meant its trainer was happy. The dual Meowstic were walking hand-in-hand, smiles on their faces as they noticed the new boy.
“Ranbitch! Tubs!” Tommy called out with a grin.
