Work Text:
Alex 'Agent Phoenix' Kaz was sitting on a bar stool of his apartment kitchen wide awake after three beers and a half a bottle of whisky. He couldn't stop thinking about it. No matter how much he drank his thoughts kept on circling back to that - dream. Or at least he thought it was a dream. It was more of a reoccurring train of thought that ended with John Juniper-
Fuuuuck! Alex internally screamed. He took a swig of the beer in his hand. It's been happening ever since he got the invitation from Juniper after the Masque of Red Death.
It was strange then and became very strange now that Alex was having these thoughts over a person who tried to kill him multiple times and who is now presumed dead.
It wasn't like it was easy for even Alex to escape the falling elevator and exploding building. Hell he didn't even do that successfully. The burn scars on his body told him so.
Which made the possibility of Juniper even being alive very slim.
So why was Alex still having these thoughts about him.
He turned his phone on, debating with himself over whether to call his Handler or not. On the one hand, it seemed pretty stupid to call him over a dream, but on the other hand, Alex really just wanted someone to talk to. To figure out what the hell was wrong with him.
Before he settled on an answer he noticed that the phone was ringing.
"Agent?" Handler asked through the speaker. "Agent Phoenix, are you alright?"
"I-" Alex wanted to say yes but that would make calling his Handler unnecessary, but saying no would send Handler into a panic.
"I don't know." He settled on.
"Agent, is there a reason you're calling me at 3:30 in the morning?" Handler asked the dead tiredness in his voice clear to even a slightly drunk Agent Phoenix.
Alex really didn’t want to explain why on the phone, considering he couldn’t remember if this was an agency issued phone or not. He also didn’t want to get in trouble with the Agency for something like this.
"Why would you be in trouble?" Handler asked, confused.
Alex groaned in frustration. This was fucking stupid.
"Just-" He had to think carefully about how he said this. "Can you come over, I need-I need to talk."
"Ok." Handler said slowly. "Just one more question." He added.
Alex hummed in response.
"Are you drunk?"
Alex looked at the half empty bottle of whisky on the counter.
"Maybe."

The sound of someone knocking on the door took Alex out of whatever trance he was in. It took him a few seconds to remember that it was his Handler who was doing that.
He considered opening up the door like a normal person but thought better of it and used his telekinesis to do it instead. It took a bit more concentration but it was surely faster than the time it would take to actually get himself to physically do it.
"Hello?" He heard Handler close the door.
"In here." Alex said.
Alex laid his head down on the island table, as the Handler made his way to the kitchen.
"Hi." Alex waved slowly.
"Agent, I know you said you wanted to talk but can't this wait until you're at least a little bit sober?" Handler asked.
"No." Alex shook his head.
"And why is that?"
"Because I wouldn't tell you if I was and I'll probably forget about it." He mumbled. Alex wished he was telling the truth.
"Alex, does this have something to do with the Juniper incident?" Handler gently took the bottle from the drunk agent's hand.
"You can say that."
"Is it?" Handler led.
"Mhm." Alex noticed Handler sliding a notepad and pen to him.
"Ok, can you write it down for me?"
Alex nodded. He took the pen and wrote the best of his ability:
I ve been haveing thoughts
about
Alex sighed heavily.
John Juniper.
He put the pen down and slid the notepad over to Handler. Putting his head in his hands, Alex heard the scribbling of a pen as his Handler wrote down on the notepad.
What kind of thoughts?
Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Alex shook his head fast enough that it gave him a headache. He took the pen.
BAD VERY VERY BAD
Alex didn’t mean to write like a child but he couldn’t find a way to describe how weird and disturbing they were. He noticed Handler’s confused look when he read the note.
“Its…a weird feeling, I hate it and I’d rather relive the Death Engine, than think…about…it.” He felt his face burn up. He was thinking about it again. ARRRRUGH!
“Ok, Ok so instead of talking about whatever is making you have a freak out, let's talk about something else.” Handler suggested .
“Yeah, ok, thats sounds good.” Alex said.

Alex slowly opened his eyes and found himself on the couch of his living room. As he looked around ignoring his growing headache, nothing was too off.
Good. Not like last time when I gave myself a concussion.
Alex slowly made his way to the kitchen, considering to dunk his head under the faucet and let the water run. Instead he found a note on the counter from his Handler.
Agent,
I made sure that you didn’t do anything too dumb. I won’t mention anything that you told me this morning unless you want me to. Also I made sure that you won’t get a mission today.
Good Luck! Agent Phoenix,
-M
