Work Text:
Maya
I ran on the treadmill while Andy and Vic were lifting weights. I listen as Andy complains about Sullivan and Vic complaining about her boyfriend at the time. “He’s being such an asshole, all he wants is me in his apartment with him!” Vic exclaims and I roll my eyes.
“Break up with him” Andy and I say at the same time.
“I’m going to. Maya, do me and Andy a favor and never ever date someone ever again,” I chuckle and slow down my running and get off the treadmill.
“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about-”
“Maya no! Bad Maya! I swear if you are dating Jack again-”
“No! God no!” I laugh and take a drink of water, “No, I am not dating Jack. But, Dr.Bailey told Ben about a girl at the hospital looking for someone to date. Ben told her about me and they set us up on a blind date. Her names is Carina, apparently she's Italian-”
“Hot Italian goddess,” Vic says as we all rotate and start working out again.
“Look, I need help picking out an outfit and maybe a little makeup. Are you guys in?” I ask and they look at each other and nod.
The next day I sit on my bed as Vic does my makeup, Andy curls my hair and I look in the mirror once they're done. I look hot. “I hope she's not weird,” I whisper to myself, they each laugh at me
“So, where are you meeting her?”
“Joes, I’m nervous, what if she's really creepy and Dr. Bailey lied to Ben because she secretly wants me dead or something and is paying this Carina girl to kill me tonight? Oh I can’t do this I’m staying home,” I go to sit down but Vic put her arms under mine and makes me stand up.
“You are going on this date. You are going to have fun, you’re going.” Vic says and Andy puts my coat on me. Putting my purse in my hand.
“There’s pepper spray in there, your phone is in there, now shoo. Go get laid or something you need it,” She joked and my jaw dropped before turning pink. They both laughed at me and then I was on my way.
2 hours later, I sat with my third drink of the night still waiting for Carina. I wonder if she had forgotten, or if she had stood me up on purpose. I stand up, picking up my coat. I hear the doorbell ring and a very beautiful woman walks in looking very frantic, she runs up to the bar and stands next to me. “Joe, has there been a Maya Bishop here yet? Has she left?” I turn my head to look at her,
“I’m Maya Bishop. Are you-”
“Carina, I’m Carina DeLuca. oh mio Dio, I am so sorry I was performing surgery and everything went wrong with the mama and the baby and I am so sorry to keep you waiting this long I really am,” She says and I begin to smile as she continues to ramble about her patient, she was still in her pink scrubs, her hair a complete mess.
“Hey it’s okay, you don’t need to apologize. I guess I was just worried I was getting stood up,”
“Oh I would never ever do that, I would never ever stand anyone up,” I smiled a little and looked into her eyes. They were a beautiful brown, not poop brown, but more reminded me of tree bark, nature, and dirt that a beautiful flower had been planted in. “Maya, I know we came here to get drinks and to learn more about each other but I’m really tired, I was thinking maybe we could-”
“Reschedule
for a different time?” I asked her to finish her sentence, I’m not going to lie. I was disappointed, I wanted to learn more about her.
“Actually, I was going to suggest we head back to my apartment, I can freshen up, get all of the hospital germs off of me. I thought that maybe I could cook you dinner, or you can help if you’d like. I have wine, maybe we can have a relaxed night. I know its a lot for a first date and you can say no,”
“I’d like that,”
And so we went to Carina's house, she quickly gave me a house tour before going into her bedroom to gather clothes for her shower, and a towel. She told me that I could sit anywhere I’d like and to make myself comfortable, but I just felt too awkward, I felt like I was going to break something with her not watching me. So I stood for the shower, going on my phone checking for any text messages, only a few from Vic and Andy asking how the date was going. I haven't responded to them yet. I’m sure they’d be calling me first thing in the morning to hear all about it.
“Why are you still standing? I told you to sit, here let me take your jacket,” she says, I shrug my coat off my shoulders and she takes it and hangs it up.
“I felt awkward, out of place, I don't want to ruin anything in here,”
“Maya, you’re not going to ruin anything, I promise. Do you want a change of clothes, would that make you feel more comfortable,” Normally I would never say yes to that, but I nod my head, already feeling myself become more comfortable around her. She smiles and rushes off, getting me a t-shirt and pajama bottoms. She hands them to me and I walk out of the room.
Carina
I got some salmon from my fridge along with lots of different vegetables. I wonder if she likes strawberries, maybe we could do chocolate-covered strawberries for dessert, that's romantic, isn’t it?
I like Maya, but I don't know her too well yet. But I really want to learn more, she’s beautiful on the outside and so far she’s extremely kind. I think once I met her eyes I was immediately hypnotized by them. They reminded me of a winter wonderland. Christmas is special to me and I love it. Although I'm not too fond of the cold, I loved how magical it always felt.
I feel a presence beside me and I look to my left, seeing Maya standing awkwardly with her neatly folded clothes. “You can set those by the door, then come wash your hands and we'll get started,” I smile once she runs off quickly to do both things I instructed her to do.
The next 30 minutes or so were filled with us laughing at each other's stories. We didn’t bother to start with the basics, like what's your favorite color and who’s your favorite person. We went straight into stories. Eventually, Maya was sticking her finger into the melted chocolate we had and putting it in her mouth. “Maya! That’s for the strawberries, not you!”
“The chocolate is for the strawberries, the soon-to-be chocolate-covered strawberries are for us. Us includes me so naturally, I think that it's for me,” I just laugh, she gets chocolate on her finger again and boops me on the nose. My jaw drops and she starts laughing. She quickly takes a picture of me and I start laughing.
“Maya!” She laughs more and I try my best to look angry.
“Oh don’t look at me that way. You think it’s funny and you know it,” She whispers and I roll my eyes, wiping the chocolate off my nose and we both start dipping the strawberries into the melted chocolate, every once in a while we each take a sip of wine. “What’s your favorite part of your job?” She asks and I begin to smile, putting our food on plates.
“I like helping the mamas and the babies. I love watching the relief that parents have once they realize their baby is in good hands, I like most things. I don't like how sick they get but I love helping them. You?”
“I like running into fires. Which I know sounds crazy, but I like the feeling it gives me, I also love helping people. I like, I like to know that if I died in there, at least I’d be helping someone, I would’ve died saving someone,” She whispers, her voice wavering towards the end. I frown a little, setting down the plates before gently pulling her into my arms for a hug, she tensed before relaxing in my arms. I smiled a little and rubbed her back. “Sorry, I didn’t mean for this to get so emotional. Let's eat, yeah?”
Another 3 hours later, an entire glass of wine finished. I sit with Maya on the couch, sharing a blanket, watching the Titanic, per my request. I feel something on my shoulder and I look down to see Maya with her eyes closed, clearly asleep. I smile and gently pull her closer to me, she snuggles into me. I’ve got a snuggler on my hands. I grin and stand up with her, carrying her to my room, I lay her down on my bed, pulling the blankets to her shoulders, tucking her in gently. “Sleep well, Maya.”

I woke up in a bed that was not my own, a house that was not my own, and in clothes that were not my own. I stretched slightly, everything smelt like Carina, why did it smell like Carina? I sit up slowly taking in my surroundings. I rub my eyes and smooth my hair back. “I didn’t fall asleep here did I? Oh shit shit shit!” I exclaim and jump out of what I’m assuming is Carina's bed. I look at the alarm clock and see the number 10:30 on it. “That's the longest I’ve slept in forever,” I think aloud.
I rush around the room looking for my phone, only not to find it so I walk out and go into the main area. I see Carina sprawled out against the couch, half of her leg up and the other half on my ground, along with her arm. It was a cute sight I’ll admit, I saw my phone and grabbed it, met with the sight of at least 100 notifications from Vic and Andy wondering where I was. I quickly call Andy and she answers within two rings.
“Maya where the fuck are you?! We’ve been trying to reach you for the last 5 hours and you haven't answered. Everyone knows you wake up at 5:30 every morning for a run so where the fuck are you? You aren’t in your apartment, you weren't in your spot, and you are not at the station,” Andy shouts at me and I sigh,
“I’m at Carinas, the hot Italian goddess, no we didn’t have sex, yes I am okay, I must’ve fallen asleep. Now I’ll see you later tonight goodbye,” I listen to Andy begin to protest but I hang up before she could continue.
“Hot Italian goddess hm?” Carina asks and I jump.
“Shit, I didn’t know you were awake,” She chuckles and sits up, patting the spot next to her. I sit next to her and she smiles. “You look hot in this shirt,”
“I’m actually kind of cold-” I whisper and she chuckles, before pulling me into a hug, she was warm.
“I meant you look hot Maya, sexy hot. You in my clothes is definitely a good thing, especially after only one date. You look beautiful in this green,” she says and I start blushing. Trying to hide my face, she laughs and holds me closer. It felt nice to be cuddled like this, I haven’t been cuddled so late in the morning since ever.
“Can the next date be at my house?” I ask and she smirks,
“Who says you get a second date?”
“Will you go on another date with me?”
“Only if I get to wear your clothes,”
“Deal,”
