Chapter Text

"Come on, Sango! It'll be fun! They were able to buy some dandelion wine at the Iradori Festival and we're going to try it out!" Ryuuji begged to Sango. Sango let out a sigh.

"You know I don't drink. And I don't even know who these friends are."

"I'll introduce you to them then. And you always do the same things, sometimes change is good." Ryuuji urged on. After a few seconds Sango finally gave in.

"Alright, I'll come along too but if I don't like the drink and the friends then I'm leaving." Ryuuji let out a smile and waited at the door for Sango to get ready for them to leave.

After walking for awhile they reach a wide field with some people already settled down on covers with lots of bottles around them. They were all laughing and enjoying themselves. Ryuuji called out to them and everyone turned their heads towards Ryuuji and Sango.

They walked up to the group and everyone greeted them. Ryuuji and Sango sat down on one of the empty spots. Some introduced themselves to Sango and Sango did the same. Then someone who didn't look like they were from Inazuma plopped down next to her, offering her a glass of dandelion wine.

"Hello, my friend. I am Venti, a bard from Mondstat! What may your name be?"

Sango looked at the glass hesitantly and reached out to take it into her hand. "I'm Sango, a detective from the Bantan Sango Detective Agency." She took a sip of it and hummed at the taste.

"Nice to meet you, Miss Sango! Is the taste of the famous dandelion wine to you liking?" He chuckled and took a sip of his own glass. "If you don't like it then I'll gladly drink it instead!"

Sango side eyed him. "No, thank you. I quite like it." She replied taking another sip. The taste was rather addicting.

The bard let out a giggle. "If you say so my friend!"

The night carried out like that with everyone drinking, joking, singing and laughing together. As the hours went by Venti and Sango started to become closer. Everytime Sango's glass finished Venti filled it up again with another bottle. With every glass Sango felt her mind melting and soon enough she was horribly drunk.

"Then after everything we went through together, he left me! Like I meant nothing!" Sango cried while sipping from her cup. Venti was drinking more wine while listening to her attentively and so were some others around her.

"I think" Venti took a sip. "He might still like you." Sango got a confused expression on her face.

"How did any of what I told sound like he liked me??" Sango asked, mumbling a thanks to the person next to her who filled up her glass again.

"Well what you told just doesn't make sense! He was absolutely in love with you and then he fell out of love and left out of nowhere? Absolutely ridiculous! And you said how sad he looked when you got angry with him too!" Others around them nodded their heads in agreement with the bard.

Sango got an angry look on her face. "Then why does he keep flirting with everyone that he comes across, huh? If he still liked me he wouldn't do that!"

"Look, my friend, I don't know much about that. I'm just delivering what a little birdy told me." Venti shrugged. Sango got a concentrated look on her face.

"Why don't you go and ask him yourself? No one can answer your questions better then this Heizou fellow himself!" Venti suggested. Sango hesitated.

"I... can't." Sango felt tears come to her eyes and wiped them away quickly. The ones listening in around her protested.

"Come on, mate! What's the worst that could happen?"

"Do it drunk! You'll have more bravery and be more honest when you're drunk!"

"And aren't you a detective? It's your job to interrogate people, it'll be a piece of cake for you!"

Sango looked up. "You're right! I'm a detective! I'll go interrogate him right away!" With a rush of motivation she stood up. And almost toppled over. The ones nearby held out their hands just in case she fell over. But she was able to balance herself and turned around to march to Heizou's house.

She was suddenly stopped by a hand in her way. It was Ryuuji.

"Are you going home already? Do you need me to escort you back? You look really drunk." Ryuuji asked worried.

"Nah... I'm fine! And uh-yes I'm going home!" Sango said sheepishly and walked around his hand to go back to Inazuma City.

Ryuuji watched after her. "If you say so..." Then he was tugged back into the party and was given more drinks.

Sango walked back to the city on unsteady feet. She walked close to the houses and other buildings so she could lean on them if she lost her balance.

She struggled to remember where Heizou's new house was but as soon ashe remembered she made her way over to it.

While walking there she contemplated whether this was a good idea or not. A voice in her head told her not to do it but another one told her to. But she remembered all that the others had said. So interrogation it is.

She finally reaches his house and stands in front of the door, as if it will open on it's own when sensing her presence. After a few more seconds and realizing that the door won't open on it's own, she started banging her fist on it.

Finally after some banging the door swung open and Sango was able to stop herself from hitting Heizou on the head in the last second. Heizou looks shocked to see her there at that hour.

"Sango? What are you doing here?" Heizou asked, looking her over.

"I came here to interrogate you!" She exclaimed and swayed on her feet. She leaned on the wall to stop the swaying. Heizou looked at her for a few seconds and then got a shocked look on his face.

"Sango... are you drunk?" He asked in disbelief. Sango nodded.

Heizou sighed and opened the door further to usher her inside. Sango started walking inside, still leaning on the walls and Heizou gently grabed her arm to help her walk inside.

They get to the living room and Heizou guided her to the couch and helped her sit down. Sango leaned back to the couch as Heizou went to the kitchen. He poured water into a cup of water for her and then returned to where she was.

He sat next to her and gave the glass to her. She took the glass from his hand and looked at it a bit before drinking it. The water felt nice and refreshing after all those glasses of wine.

Heizou watched her drink and took the glass from her to set it down when she was done.

They sat in silence for awhile before Heizou asked "Why are you drunk and here in the middle of the night?".

Sango didn't reply for awhile. She just stared at his face. She didn't say anything but her mind told her many things to say. Yet she sat in silence.

Heizou's eyes darted around, trying to come up with anything that could help the situation. If it was anyone else then he would have just offered to escort them home or make a bed for them on the couch but this was Sango. He didn't want to make the situation between them worse. So he waited for her to speak. He always waited for her.

"A little bard birdy told me something. So I came here to confirm it myself." Sango finally said.

"A bard bird?" Heizou grinned, looking like he was about to break out in laughter. Sango got an angry look on her face.

"Yes, a bard bird!"

"Alright, alright!" Heizou replied and let her continue.

Sango looked at him and she seemed to almost ask him something. Then she burst out crying.

Heizou looked panicked and tried to calm her down and shush her while she continued to cry. He went to get some tissues for her but she refused them. Instead wiping her tears with her hands.

"Why did you leave? Why did you leave ME?" She kept repeating. "I did all I could so we could work well together! I listened to you, compromised with you, sacrificed FOR YOU! So why couldn't you do the same to ME?" She sobbed out.

Heizou's heart broke at the sight. He knew Sango better than anyone and she wasn't the type of person to just say her feelings out loud so easily. Especially after what had happened between them.

Heizou just reached to Sango and pulled her into his arms. Sango kept sobbing and hiccuping in between. Heizou kept quiet and just held her. He made a mental note to himself to talk to Ryuuji about Sango drinking.

"Do you have ANY idea how much I have been hurting? Do you have any idea how many times I go to sleep imagining you're still there with me? Do you have any idea how much I have been longing to kiss you again?" She continued to sob out. And Heizou could do nothing but rub her back in a comforting gesture.

"It wasn't easy for me either..." Heizou started to gently say. Sango had seemed like she was done saying what she needed to for the time being. "I had my own ambitions and it wasn't lining up with what we were doing at the agency. I never wanted to end things between us... But you were so heartbroken that I thought it would be best for us if we stayed away from each other." He calmly said while continuing to rub her back.

Sango's crying slowed down and she just continued to sniffle. She leaned out of Heizou's arms to wipe her tears again and Heizou used the moment to get up and get her another glass of water.

He came back and gave her the glass and she started drinking it. He sat down next to her and waited for her to finish drinking.

When she finished drinking she put it down on the coffee table in front of them. She turned to look at him.

"So that wasn't your fucked up idea of a break up?"

"What? No, of course not! I didn't want to break up but you were really sad and angry that I left the agency so I thought it would be best for both of us to separate. But I never wanted it." Heizou replied. Sango looked down at her hand and finger where there once used to be a promise ring.

"I've never stopped loving you y'know... I just felt betrayed. We found the agency together and raised it to where it was together... When you backed out of the business it felt like you were backing out of the relationship too..."

Heizou gently pulled her into a hug and buried his face in her shoulder. "That was never my intention, Sango."

Sango let herself be pulled in and buried her own face in his hair. They sat in silence just embracing each other. The howling wind outside and their calm breathing was the only thing they could hear.

After awhile Heizou realized that Sango's breathing was too calm. He looked down to see that she had fallen asleep. Heizou sat there just staring at her and wondered what he should do.

He tried to gently push her off but it didn't work. He tried to slowly unwrap himself from her embrace but nope she was holding on too tight. He tried to lean away and out of it but big mistake.

Instead of escaping her arms he fell down onto the couch on his back and Sango came down with him. It was now even more impossible to get her off of him without waking her up because he was a head shorter than her and she was heavier than he could lift.

So he's just stuck there with his ex deep in slumber on top of him with no way out. Good for you buddy.

Heizou figured out that he would deal with this in the morning so with some difficulty he was able to fix the pillow under his and Sango's head to a more comfortable position for both of them. And then he falls asleep as well.
