Work Text:
Hyunjin, on the outside, might seem like a guy who likes to bunk classes and laze around but unbeknownst to others, he is highly competitive, intelligent and is in the highest grade for the college prep class. That's how Felix met him, during the orientation class, his personality didn't do enough justice for the way people perceived him. Surely, he's whimsical, carefree and good at dancing.
He noticed Felix on the first day itself, how can he not when Felix surpassed him in a class. Hyunjin never lost and can't accept lost either, be it in academics, his classroom rank, friendly bets or dance matches. But Felix proved his point wrong in that debate during English class.
His curiosity got the best of him and found himself getting drawn to Felix. The latter looks like an angel and Hyunjin starts to be confused between admiration and attraction. He even had a hard time talking to Felix without blushing a bit or stuttering.
But as time passed by, they both started knowing each other and slowly relishing each other's company. It became a routine for them. To arrive early in class, share their love towards music, work on assignments together, complaining about how much work was given and even studying together. Everyone thought that they were study buddy.
They got closer each time, becoming almost inseparable and always found as a pair.
"That's it for today, everyone. Go home and get good rest. Tomorrow is a big day." The dance coach dismissed them. The crew clap while others energetically whistles and shouts.
Felix got up from the seat, heading outside, waiting for Hyunjin to freshen up so that both of them can go home. It's not new for everyone to see Felix there watching the entire preparation for the upcoming dance competition. And that will be happening the next day in the afternoon.
"I will miss youuuuu." Hyunjin whined, walking beside Felix, holding each other’s hand.
"Jinnie, you're acting like you're leaving somewhere far." Felix snorted remaining unfazed.
"Of course, it's far! It's Mapo Arts Center"
He pouted. Felix chuckled looking at Hyunjin's cute face.
"It's literally in Seoul Jinnie, and even you'll cry there, we can't do anything right? The university entrance is on the same day as the competition. But I promise, to attend if I finish the exam early."
"I wish it will happen. I'm just sad that you won't get to see my sexy body." He smirked looking at Felix's angry yet flustered face.
"Ew...You aren't sexy at all. Besides, you'll be sweaty." Felix frowned, nose scrunched.
Hyunjin pretended to be offended by what he said muttering something underneath his breath.
Felix was still reeled up by what happened a few moments ago. He can't believe on what he feels during the talk. This isn't how he feel at first but every time he gets to talk to Hyunjin. He feels weird.
'Am I attracted to him? He is just a friend, right?' He starts to space out but interrupted on Hyunjin's sentence.
"See ya, baby."
Felix looked at Hyunjin with wide eyes. Hyunjin just smiled at him with the most genuine and rare smile.
"What was that?" Felix asked still can't believe everything that happens.
"What was what?"
Hyunjin quirked an eyebrow watching Felix in amusement.
"Did you just called me, 'baby'?" he questioned.
Felix feels something weird on his stomach again, he can't explain what is happening to him. But all those weird feeling didn't worry him. He likes to feel it honestly.
"So?"
Hyunjin raise an eyebrow then bent down to Felix level and spoke in a hushed tone.
"If I win tomorrow, I will ask you out."
Felix blushed feeling the warm breath on his ear. His heart starts pacing faster as a soft gasp left his mouth before his hands covered it instantly out of shock.
Before Felix can even reply, Hyunjin is already running to the left side of the road leaving him in front of his house, all confused and stunned.
The different voices accompanied by the loud blow of music, cheers of the audience and commentators was heard as Felix entered the center. It was huge and wide. There's a lot of people too. Seoul International Dance Competition isn't just a competition for dancer. Every young dancer in and out of Korea gather in one stage to compete for different category for dancing.
The shift of atmosphere was evident as Felix's body shivered with the sudden change of temperature. He was searching for the familiar face when he heard someone shouting. There he was, with a dejected expression as he tried everything to pull himself up. Their dance coach was scolding them for taking it easy on the other group, though what she said was true.
Hyunjin bowed and apologized, he sat on one of the chairs, drinking his water. They lose only a point at their rival.
Getting closer to the event's place, Felix took the towel from Hyunjin's kit and approached him with a pat on his shoulder. Hyunjin looked at him, pressure slowly draining away from his face, hugging Felix instantly. Felix stood on tiptoes, patting his shoulders in attempt to calm his nerves and assure him that he will perform well.
"Hey.... don't be like this now. Do your best and give them a good performance that everyone will admire despite the outcome, okay?" Felix pulled away from the hug smiling at him. Hyunjin nod.
"What would I do without you?"
"Probably taking stupid decisions." Felix rolled his eyes playfully while Hyunjin chuckled
Hyunjin fixed himself. He needed to win this competition for many reasons and Felix is one of them. For now, he needs to make sure that the members are on the same page as him to be able to win the competition. Felix watched them as they dance and fight. Their willpower and determination to win is more evident now and seriousness was visible on their faces. But as the competition progressed, the other team also become more serious.
They lost with an average score of 9.6 - 9.4, their teacher was quick to encourage them by pointing out how they improved and fought back, how the previous members would be so proud of them and how the team can achieve more in future.
The team was leaving one by one bidding goodbye to those who was still in the changing room. Hyunjin get out last and came up to Felix after refreshing as both of them exited the center.
His shoulders slumped down and he's walking slowly. He grabs Felix hand, intertwining their fingers. Felix squeezed them gently in reassurance.
"Only if I was a bit more serious from the start." He sighed with obvious disappointment.
"Jinnie, you still did great. Yes, you could've won but some things are difficult to achieve. You always have room to improve."
"Thank you."
They walk in silence. Felix was studying Hyunjin's expression and evaluating himself if it was the right time for him to confess.
Yes, he likes Hyunjin before he even realized it. His antics, silly jokes, his whining when he hadn't understood what the lesson is all about, his smile, laugh and his love for food.
Felix convinced himself that this will be his last time to say the thing he wanted to say.
he takes a deep breath and say,
"Will you go out with me, Hwang Hyunjin?"
Hyunjin's demeanor suddenly changed and he stops his track. Felix turned sideways, stepping forward. He felt his heart skip a beat when he looked at Felix, his face painted with a shy grin. The light breeze made his hair flow ever so beautifully.
"But we lost-"
Felix took him by surprise, he hopped a bit, snaking his hands around his shoulders and kissing Hyunjin. It took every inch of courage to be able to do this and as if the time stopped, they felt the surroundings fade away. But Felix pulled back asking.
"I-I'm sorry...are you sure-"
Hyunjin playfully grin. Butterflies erupted in his stomach as he framed Felix face with one hand while pulling him even closer with another, pressing his lips on Felix.
Kissing him as gentle as possible but in a most passionate way, he conveyed his longing love for him. Felix melted on the kiss, his knees almost giving up but Hyunjin was quick to hold him tight and chuckled softly.
Hyunjin was the one to pull away when he noticed himself getting way far. Felix is a blushing mess, cheeks painted in deep red, hair slightly messed and lips were swollen. Taking a glance at him, Hyunjin swore that Felix is the most gorgeous person he had laid his eyes on.
"So, it's yes, or no?" Felix asked
"I- yes of course!" Hyunjin gasped when he forgot about the confession.
"I don't care if you win or lose, Jinnie... What's important for me is you learn and you accept that you lose" Felix gave him a sweet smile which made Hyunjin's heart tug.
"Don't smile at me like that... It drives me crazy."
"Like this???" Felix shoved his face close to him showing a cutest smile.
"But thank you so much Boki, I love you"
A wide grin was visible on his face as he held Felix hand and rubbed his thumb on his knuckles.
"It's nothing... I love you too, Jinnie."
