Work Text:

Kirishima resisted the urge to bang his head in frustration.

Being the optimistic person he is, he would normally be more positive that the problem would be fixed. Though, the more he tries to wrack his brain, he finds that it’s virtually impossible to find a solution in the situation he is now in.

In this situation, he had no one to blame but himself.

He had been in a hurry to leave to go to work that day, and had carelessly left behind the key to his apartment.

Now, he’s stuck hopelessly gazing at his door while he found himself to be locked out his home without any means to enter inside.

He had been really looking forward to returning back home, as he had wanted nothing more than to sink himself into the cushions of his bed and sleep his tiredness away.

But it can’t happen now. All because he made a stupid dumb mistake.

He was about to call it quits and resort to pathetically sleep outside his doorway, when an idea suddenly struck him.

It’s not the exactly most manly of ideas, but he doesn’t exactly have a choice in this situation. He sighed, steeling himself as he prepared himself to push through with what he’s about to do.

With a few quick strides, he reached the apartment door of the one beside his own. Having just moved in a few weeks ago, he hadn’t really had an opportunity to meet most of his neighbors yet aside from a kind elderly woman.

Hopefully, though, his neighbor would be understanding enough to extend their help to him.

He raised his hand and knocked against the wood of the door, and then braced himself for an answer.

Only, in his case, there isn’t any answer.

The redhead raised his brow in confusion. He could have sworn that his neighbor is already back at home, as it’s already nine in the evening.

Growing desperate, he decided to try again.

For a second, it seemed as if the door would remain closed and he was just about to accept his fate, when the door was suddenly wretched open with such force that the screws almost fell off.

“ ‘The fuck you want?” came the voice of his neighbor who growled angrily at him.

Kirishima opened his mouth to say something- anything, but nothing left his mouth as he was left in a trance.

Because, well, his neighbor looked really good.

He stood there gaping as he takes in his neighbor’s appearance- wild ash blonde hair that is sticking up like an explosion and beautiful ruby eyes which are striking even if they are currently glaring a hole into his head.

It hadn’t even registered to him that the other was starting to shut the door until he managed to snap out of his trance on time.

Without thinking twice, his foot had wedged itself between the door, effectively stopping the other from shutting the door.

His blond neighbor fixed him with an annoyed look as he snarled “Fuck off! You clearly have nothing to say and some of us would like to get some damn sleep.”

“But I do need your help!” Kirishima refuted and then the next words left his mouth without much thinking “I need to use your balcony!”

“Hah?!” His neighbor roared then exclaimed disbelievingly at him. “ ‘The fuck you want my balcony for?”

“I left my keys inside my place and I need your balcony to climb inside.” The redhead explained and the man in front of him looked incredulous at that.

“Are you fuckin’ serious?” His neighbor said after a few seconds of remaining in disbelief at his proposition. “Actually, don’t answer that. I should have known that you’d be the idiot to think of waking their neighbor up to climb their fuckin’ balcony.”

“Hey, it might not be the best idea but it’s the safest bet I have to get back home.” There is a bit of flush coloring his cheeks as he argued.

Okay maybe the idea is a little ridiculous, but it’s not like he has a choice in that matter.

“Fine.” The blond sighed. “Only because I want to get back to sleep. ‘Just know that I’m not fuckin’ responsible for the shit that happens to you when go through your dumb fuckin’ idea.”

“Thanks, dude.” He smiled brightly up at the blond. “I promise to make it up to you in the future.”

“Don’t bother.” The other rolled his eyes in retaliation, as he stepped away from the door to allow Kirishima to make his way inside and towards the balcony.

Well, here goes…

He took a deep breath before letting his body control him- He hurled his body up and over the railing then tried his best not to look down below from the ledge he was standing on. He did his best to hold on for life as his feet slowly stepped and jumped over to the opposing balcony.

He did it. He made it back home.

Smiling triumphantly, he let out a victorious holler as he fist-pumped in glee. “Dude, did you see how awesome that was?”

His neighbor, on the other hand though, didn’t say a word to what he just said and just stood there gaping until he bit out. “How the fuck-“

“I work out.” Kirishima replied before the other could even finish what he was meant to say. A blush crept its way over his cheek when he realized how that might have come across to his neighbor.

At his reply, his neighbor’s eyes darted all the way over to his biceps and flushed a bright red. Kirishima felt awkward under the stare, especially since the blond had been weirdly silent for quite some time now.

“I’ll be getting to bed now.” Kirishima choked out, breaking the silence which seemed to have brought the blond back to his usual state. “Thanks for lending me your balcony and uh- Sorry for waking you up.”

“Whatever.” The blond muttered. “ ‘Just don’t make it happen for the second time or I swear-“

“I promise it won’t happen again, bro.” Kirishima swore. “So, I’ll just get out of your hair now.”

Kirishima quickly clambered his way inside his home through his balcony, before the blond could even get a word in.

He squeezed his eyes shut and waited for sleep to come.

It’s something he would really appreciate at this moment. After all, he had a long night.

```
For the second time that week, Kirishima found himself outside his blond neighbor’s apartment. This time, however, he was holding a bag of cookies in his hands.
He raised his hand to knock on the door, but it swung open before he could even have the chance to knock.
Kirishima caught the spark of recognition which had flittered over the other, once his hot-tempered neighbor’s eyes landed spotted his.
“You got fucking locked out again?” The blond sneered accusingly over at him to which he responded with a chuckle.
“Nah, I already told you that I won’t make the same mistake again.” Kirishima sheepishly replied, a hand rubbing the back of his neck as he handed the blond the bag of cookies. “I’m actually here to give you this. It’s thanks for you know, helping me out and all that.”
For a second, Kirishima believed that the blond would keep his arm out hanging and accept the gift. Eventually, though, the bag was taken off of his arm and he smiled at his neighbor who looked almost flustered.
“That reminds me- I didn’t introduce myself to you yet. I’m Kirishima Eijirou.” He piped up when realization hits him that he doesn’t even know the name of his next-door neighbor.
“Bakugou Katsuki.” His neighbor, Bakugou, grumbled out, and Kirishima smiled at the prospect of finally having a name to his neighbor’s face.
“It’s nice to meet ya, man.” Kirishima beamed brightly with a smile. “I hope we can get along well.”
“Well, we won’t be if you keep fuckin’ bothering me.” An irritated Bakugou snarled though the redhead remained undeterred.
“Oh, c’mon! don’t be like that, bro.” Kirishima pouted slightly then asked “Say, I was about to go on a run and could use the company. Do you wanna come along?”
“As if!” Bakugou scoffed; like the very idea is beneath him. “I have better things to do than spending time with a dumbass like you.”
“What, you can’t handle it?” Kirishima teased.
Immediately, Bakugou’s ruby red eyes lit up challengingly from his words “Fuck you! I’ll show you! Shitty Hair, we’re going running right now.”
“Yeah, yeah.” A grin broke through Kirishima’s face without really meaning to. “Let me just get some things in my room before we start.”
They spent the next hour or so, just running around.
While Kirishima always loved the thrill of physical exercise, there’s something different about running alongside his neighbor.It gave him more sense of excitement especially when Bakugou would get just a little bit into the competition of who could run more laps.
It’s certainly a change to his usual routine, but it’s a change he would welcome with open arms.
```

Kirishima was just readying himself to go to work, and it just so happened that Bakugou’s schedule had aligned with his.

They stepped into the elevator with the intention of going through their separate ways. It’s an unspoken agreement for their morning runs to only take place in the weekends; when their schedules are both free from work.

It was then that it happened-

The lights suddenly went out in the elevator, which had also stopped moving; leaving them into a standstill.

“Fuck!” Bakugou cursed, which is somewhat fitting for the current situation they are in right now.

“Shit. This is bad, dude. I can’t see you.” Kirishima’s hands are starting to get clammy. The air is tight in the dark place they are in, and it’s getting really hard to breathe.

“Wow, I didn’t know that.” Even in this situation, the sarcasm in Bakugou’s voice is still really evident. He didn’t have to see to know that Bakugou had rolled his eyes at him.

“Wait, I know!” A lightbulb went off in his head and Kirishima reached into his pocket for his phone.

The flash in his phone was enough to fill the space with light.

With the darkness now less prominent, the tightness in the redhead’s chest had ebbed away a little.

His eyes squinted a little at the sudden light, but once they had managed to adjust himself to it- He found that he could get a better look on his surroundings.

Frantically, he pushed down on the emergency button his eyes had spotted. Kirishima sighed a bit in relief, it’s only a matter of time when the administration would come help them.

He turned to his friend, a grin on his face as he was about to voice his relief. But then he halted, because well-

Bakugou looked scared.

The blond’s eyes were motionless, looking down on the ground with an uncharacteristic expression Kirishima had never observed from him before. His palms were shaking almost as they clenched so tightly into his own fists that blood was almost drawn.

Wanting nothing more than to reassure his neighbor, Kirishima reached out and took one of his shaking palms into his own.

Bakugou met his gaze then, and he glanced at the blond softly and warmly. His hand was still holding onto Bakugou’s as he reassured “Don’t be scared. Everything will be okay.”

“I ain’t scared.” Bakugou bit out harshly yet he seemed to have calm down a bit, his form less panicked and more neutral as he clutched onto Kirishima’s arm like it was a lifeboat.

Their clasped hands never separate even as countless minutes had passed by with them just standing in silence.

Eventually, the elevator doors were wretched free as help had arrived. Reluctantly, Kirishima let go of Bakugou’s hand who was looking at him intently, gratefulness in his voice as he said “Thanks.”

At that moment, Kirishima’s heart raced tightly against his chest as warmness filled him to his core. “No problem, dude.”

He has a feeling that this would soon become the norm with him and Bakugou.

However, somewhere inside him, he knows that he wouldn’t mind that at all.
