Work Text:

A night as still as an untouched lake on a gentle spring day.

The quietness that filled the air, neither uncomfortable nor stifling.

Barely audible sounds of the crackling fireplace, and their slow breaths that seemed to mingle with the ever burning fire.

Such a night like this was common now.

There was nothing going on. No special ocassions, no strange occurences ; it was only the two of them, staying close by each other’s side.

But to Sung Hyeonje, it was enough.

Peaceful and uneventful.

Sung Hyeonje, a man who had ‘fun’ as his driving force for everyday life, loved this peaceful quiet.

Because the tranquility meant that he could stay with Han Yoojin. He would have nothing to worry about, since he was by Han Yoojin’s side.

He loved it.

He loved the feeling of Han Yoojin settling in his arms — the way he would make himself so comfortable, unguarded and vulnerable, because he trusted Sung Hyeonje enough to let himself relax in such a place — as if that was where he belonged.

Sung Hyeonje loved that feeling.

And he loved Han Yoojin even more.

So he told himself ; I will never let go of Han Yoojin.

Because Han Yoojin was his beloved

The only man he has ever loved ;

The only man that he has dreamed of loving ;

And the only man he will ever love.

In his heart, there was room only for Han Yoojin.

Because Han Yoojin had perfectly settled a piece of him into Sung Hyeonje’s heart, almost as thought he was made to fill in that piece that would complete him — and there would never be anyone else who could fill that place as perfectly as Han Yoojin did.

That was why he would never let go.

If it were your missing piece that completed you faultlessly without a single gap or excess qualities, would you ever let go?

The answer didn’t matter to Sung Hyeonje, because he knew that he would always hold onto Han Yoojin.

He was never someone who wouldn’t consider the consequences of whatever he did if he couldn’t handle it.

In fact, he knew he probably wouldn’t be able to let go of Han Yoojin if he decided to leave.

But he also knew that Han Yoojin would never leave him anyways.

So why would there be a need to worry?

Just like this, he felt like all of his thoughts would go away everytime he buried his nose into his hair, inhaling the scent he smelled everyday, but despite that, he never got tired of it.

The body that fit so perfectly in his arms, like they were both tailor-made for each other to completely fulfill each other’s needs and wants.

To Sung Hyeonje, Han Yoojin was everything he has needed —

And Han Yoojin was everything he ever wanted.

It was almost an obssession, the thought of not being able to remove Han Yoojin’s touch from his mind even if he starts seeing someone else.

Rather, would he even have the chance to see someone else, if he already had Han Yoojin?

Every part of him wished to have Han Yoojin.

He never should have let anyone take control of him to the point he was willing to do whatever for that person.

And yet, here he was, stuck under Han Yoojin’s gaze like an idiot.

He didn’t know how it started, but it just happened — all of a sudden, he had become a fool for Han Yoojin, his mind going blank with every tender touch of their skin against each other.

But he didn’t hate it.

Sung Hyeonje knew that Han Yoojin had looked at him the same way too.

The way he would blush with every push from Sung Hyeonje, his attempts to pull him back with every single push but his efforts only go to waste with every kiss they shared.

Of course, it would have been unfair if only Sung Hyeonje was the one to want him, right?

“Han Yoojin-ah.”

A name said with so much affection that it almost seemed like honey would drip from his words that lingered in Han Yoojin’s ears.

The feeling of a head resting itself on his shoulder, nose rubbing into his neck and exhaling with hot breaths that tickled at his pale skin.

“I think I’ve fallen too deep now.”

Words that were spoken so casually, but both knew the meaning behind those words — and neither of them disagreed nor complained.

Han Yoojin didn’t push him away, or pull himself back in an attempt to not fall deeper.

Sung Hyeonje didn’t hide his feelings behind a bastard-like smile, and only displayed his raw emotions.

Both of them let theirselves fall —

Because they knew that they would catch each other.

Or rather, they knew that they were falling together.

They would hug each other as they fell, because there was nothing else that could stop them from doing so but theirselves. But neither wanted to stop.

“I really love Yoojin now.”

Sung Hyeonje didn’t coat it in any way. He said everything he felt without exaggerating or downplaying it.

If this wasn’t love, then would there be anyone else in the world who loved someone more than Sung Hyeonje loved Han Yoojin at this moment?

Han Yoojin was afraid to love someone.

And Sung Hyeonje was unable to express his love.

But right now, wasn’t this enough?

Sharing warmth on a cold winter night, where neither cicadas nor owls made a sound in the silence of the night.

Stars bore witness to the love that blossomed between the two unlikely individuals who barely learned to love after so many adversaries.

If the world wasn’t crumbling right now, or if the two were in better circumstances, how would they proceed?

Would they have been able to fall so deeply into each other if it weren’t for all those things they’ve struggled through?

Would they even meet if it weren’t for all those things that happened to them?

All of those were bitter memories.

But thinking about how such bitter moments led to meeting each other and living out such sweet recollections, neither thought that they would be able to call those memories bitter anymore.

“It’s bittersweet.”

Han Yoojin smiles lightly, hands threading through the locks of Sung Hyeonje’s platinum blonde hair.

“What is bittersweet?”

“Us.”

“How so?”

“So many things happened before we met each other. But only great things happened after we did meet, thanks to everything that happened before that.”

Han Yoojin used to hate remembering those times.

Because remembering meant he would be reminded of all the pain and suffering of that time.

“Then should we be thankful that all those things happened then?”

After thinking about it for a while, Han Yoojin shook his head. “I don’t know.”

Sung Hyeonje smiled, and a sneaky hand made its way to Han Yoojin’s.

“I just know that I like being with you.”

He didn’t need to look to see the expression on Han Yoojin’s face.

“And the same goes for me too.”

With a warm smile, their fingers slot together in a perfect way, like they were right where they were supposed to be.

and they were.

“Nothing in this world is far better than being by your side.”

Because right next to each other is where they’ve always wanted to be.
