Work Text:

My Favourite Person

Never play Truth or Dare with Mina. This is what Bakugo had learnt the hard way, time and time again. Yet despite being aware of the perils of playing this (or any) game with Mina, Bakugo continuously found himself roped into playing. It had gotten even worse since they had all moved into the dorms together. She always knew where he was, and was always ready to drag him into something with the other idiots. The first few times she had loudly declared "GAME NIGHT!" to their group of five, he had protested. Explosively. Unfortunately, this no longer seemed to be a viable tactic, as she (and the other extras) had become immune to his threats.

Cut to Saturday night. Bakugo had finished all his homework, and was sat on Kirishima's bed to make sure the redhead finished his as well. He figured he'd check through Kirishima's work to make sure he hadn't made any stupid mistakes, and then go to bed at his preferred time (meaning early). Kirishima raised both hands in the air with a triumphant yell, which Bakugo took to mean he was finished.

"I'm all done man, wanna play video games for a while before you head back?" Kirishima asked while flashing his sharp teeth. "Unless you're too tired and think you'll lose?"

Bakugo grinned. Maybe his early bedtime could wait. There was no school tomorrow, and a challenge had been issued. Just as he was about to declare his intentions of crushing Kirishima, the door burst open to reveal a frantic Mina wearing the most hideously coloured onesie Bakugo had ever seen.

"Sato gave me some cupcakes he made, they're so good! Come over to Kaminari's room in like five minutes, we're gonna eat them all and play Truth or Dare!" High volume message delivered, Mina ran off, presumably to claim her next victim.

Bakugo hung his head. "Do I have to?" This earned a chuckle from his best friend, who bumped him with his elbow. "Come on, they like spending time with you and getting to know you, it's nice."

"It's not nice, they like getting information out of me that they can later use against me!" Bakugo snarled. "Or daring me to do something that only a genuinely insane person would do!"

Kirishima paid no mind to this, already on his feet and dragging Bakugo along with him. "It'll be fun, and if you really don't want to do a dare or answer one of the questions, they can't make you."

Bakugo scoffed at this. "We'll see."

After Kirishima had bundled up in his favourite hoodie they took the elevator to Kaminari's room. Mina and Kaminari were already spread out on the floor with far more blankets than Bakugo thought any person should possess, while Sero was pulling the curtains closed.

"To keep all the secrets in." He winked conspiratorially at them.

Bakugo groaned as he flopped down next to Kirishima, who patted him placatingly on the arm and passed him a cupcake. He growled into the frosting while Mina clapped her hands together.

"Right! I'm going first because this whole thing was my idea, and because I need to get Kaminari before he gets me!"

Kaminari gasped in mock outrage, while Kirishima and Sero laughed at his misfortune. It had begun.

The game went how it typically went. Sero had to admit that his first crush was on the middle school lunchlady. Kirishima was dared to harden just his eyelashes and balance a pencil on them. Mina confessed to being the one who lost Kaminari's pet rock a week ago, and Bakugo had to say one nice thing to each person in the room. Kaminari's was the best (for the others) but also the worst (for him). Mina dared him to dress up like Aizawa, complete with sleeping bag and drawn on under eye bags, and post a picture of it on the school messageboard. They went round a few times, and Bakugo found himself thinking surely Mina must have run out of ideas by now. It was her turn again, and he could see her raccoon eyes glinting mischievously in his direction. So imagine his surprise when she turned suddenly to Kirishima.

"Kiri!" She pointed her finger dramatically. "Truth or dare?" Kirishima pretended to consider this for a moment before picking Dare, like he always did.

"Predictable as ever." Mina smirked. "I dare you..... to kiss your favourite person in this room!" Sero's jaw dropped open, while Kaminari let out a squeal of delight. Bakugo was slightly in shock, surely she can't ask him to do that, surely Kirishima is as outraged as Bakugo himself would be. He turned to Kirishima, in case he needed to offer to explode Mina's face off on his behalf. To his surprise, Kirishima... wasn't mad?

He laughed and gently hit Mina on the arm. "I can't do that, I don't want to get my face exploded off!" Everyone else laughed in agreement, and started offering alternative Dares.

"Maybe he could harden into a drill and drill a hole into the room below!"

"I know! Have him go and cover Mineta in duct tape!"

All of this was like static to Bakugo. He'd been having an internal crisis ever since Kirishima's admission. Kirishima had been worried about getting his face exploded... because he would've kissed Bakugo? Bakugo was his favourite person in the room? The only problem Kirishima had with kissing him was the possibility of explosion? Would he even have exploded in Kirishima's face if he'd kissed him? Bakugo's neck had started to get warm, that had been happening around Kirishima a lot lately. The warmth travelled up to his face until Bakugo was sure he was blushing the colour of Kirishima's hair. He tried to bring himself back to reality, and realised the others had moved on to seeing how many marshmallows they could stuff into Kaminari's mouth. Kirishima passed another marshmallow to Sero before turning to Bakugo.

"Hey," he said gently, bumping his leg against Bakugo's. "We lost you for a minute there, everything good bro?"

All Bakugo could do was feel the warmth of Kirishima's leg and beg himself not to make things weird. "Fine," he managed to grunt out. "Getting tired."

Kirishima smiled softly at him before turning back to the others. "Hey guys, I think we're gonna head off now, it's bedtime."

"Nooooooooo!" All the morons chorused together. Kirishma laughed while he stood up and stretched his muscles out. "Bakugo and I are gonna do some training together in the morning, I want to get a good night's sleep so I can hold my own." He pulled Bakugo to stand with him. "Let's all have lunch together afterwards though, maybe see if Jirou and Momo or some of the others want to come with."

With the others placated with the thought of a nice meal the next day, Kirishima and Bakugo slipped out and back to their floor. Kirishima walked Bakugo to his door and clapped him on the shoulder. "Thanks for coming tonight man, it's always a better time when you're there." He smiled that stupid sharp-yet-somehow-soft smile and headed back towards his own room. "See you in the morning!"

And just like that, Kirishima went back into his room, off to sleep, like he hadn't just thrown Bakugo's entire brain into a washing machine.

Bakugo barely slept that night. His brain kept going back and forth from Kirishima wants to kiss me and I want to kiss him too to no, Kirishima only said I was favourite out of like four people in the room. Bakugo slapped a hand over his face. Does wanting to kiss Kirishima mean I want to date him? He rolled over and put his head under his pillow. Would I even be good at dating someone? Very confused. Why the hell would I be his favourite person there, he probably has a better time with the others. He needed to ask Kirishima what he meant by it. He worried Kirishima would think it was weird if he asked about it. No, he wouldn't be weird about it, he's the nicest person here. Bakugo sighed and finally let himself drift off.

Bakugo woke with a start when his alarm went off on Sunday morning. He'd managed maybe 3 hours of sleep, which for him was not enough. He pulled himself out of bed and got ready for the day, not sure whether he was excited to see Kirishima, or dreading it. He locked his door and went down the hall, only to find Kirishima shutting his own door.

"Hey man, ready to go?" Kirishima greeted him, smiling. "We can go grab something to eat first if you want?" In response Bakugo just shrugged and unsuccessfully stifled a yawn. The smile slipped a little from Kirishima's face.

"Are you ok? You look like you've barely slept." He held a rough hand up to Bakugo's forehead. "We don't have to go train if you don't want to." Bakugo swatted his hand away. "I'm fine, I can handle it. Let's go."

The pair walked down to the training area in near silence. Kirishima could tell Bakugo had something on his mind, and was content to let him work through it. He just hoped that Bakugo would come to him if he needed to. They were the only ones there early on a Sunday morning, and had the whole building to themselves. Bakugo put his stuff down on the floor, throwing himself on to the nearby bench. Kirishima could tell he was bringing himself to say what had been on his mind, and sat down next to him.

"Last night..." Bakugo started slowly. Kirishima could see that his palms were starting to gather explosive sweat. Bakugo sighed. "Last night, I was your favourite person in the room?"

"What?" Not at all what Kirishima had been expecting.

"You know, last night Mina dared you to kiss your favourite person in the room, and you would've kissed me if not for the fact that I'd be pissed about it?"

Kirishima was still confused. "Yeah, what about it? Obviously I'd never kiss someone without their consent, even just for a dare."

"I know that. It's just... I was your favourite person in the room?"

That's what had been bothering him?

Kirishima couldn't help but chuckle a little, Bakugo sounded so genuinely curious. "Dude, you're my favourite person in most rooms! Pretty much any room, regardless of who's in it, you're my favourite." Kirishima paused thoughtfully. "Except maybe my mother, she's pretty great." Bakugo still looked a little surprised. "Why does that shock you so much?"

"The others are a lot nicer than to you than I am, and probably better friends to you." Bakugo said honestly.

"Hey, you're plenty nice to me, you're always looking out for me and helping me to do my best." Kirishima pressed his shoulder against Bakugo. "And sure, they are good friends, but it's different than with you, ya know?"

"Different how?"

Now it was Kirishima's turn to look nervous. "It's just different is all." He could do very little to hide his blush, he knew Bakugo could see it. Bakugo leaned into Kirishima's space a little more.

"Different because you don't want to kiss the others?"

They both held their breath for a moment, looking to see if the other was serious. Kirishima must've found what he was looking for in Bakugo's eyes, as he leaned closer and took his hand.

"Yeah." Kirishima smiled. "Different like that." He ran his thumb over Bakugo's knuckles. "You...feel the same way too?"

A rare Bakugo smile appeared, not the antagonistic smirk he often wore. "Of course I do, idiot." He rested his other hand on Kirishima's shoulder. "So what do we do now?"

Something mischievous glinted in Kirishima's eyes. "Hey Bakugo, I dare you to kiss your favourite person here."
