Chapter Text
It's a cold November day when Tommy comes over to make Techno muffins.
He had bought a mix with his allowance, strawberry, Techno's favourite.
He'd never voiced it, but Tommy could tell with how they dissapeared quicker than any other flavour.
After the night they'd spent together, they'd settled into a routine similar to before, only with alot more kissing and cuddling.
Sometimes when Tommy would join Techno on the porch, Techno would make some excuse to get him inside, only to press him up against the door, wrapping him in a bear hug and burying his face in his neck, just breathing him in.
Or when he'd be in the kitchen, Techno would come up behind him, draping his arms about Tommy's waist and pressing his face to the back of Tommy's neck.
Or he'd come in and steal one of his hands until Tommy needed to use it again.
Usually pressing a kiss wherever he could reach, to his temple, to his knuckles, to any exposed skin on his shoulders, to the top of his head.
It always has Tommy smiling to himself.
He treks through the thickening snow, right up to Techno's front door, and into the house like he owns it, which technically, he kind of does... If you squint.
He takes his snow dusted shoes off at the door step, hanging up his coat, and carrying the mix into the kitchen.
He washes his hands, getting out the muffin tin and coating it with a thin layer of Crisco.
He sets the oven to 400 degrees and starts to mix the batter up.
This mix only calls for milk, so he gets it out, smiling softly to himself knowing that Techno keeps the most common ingredients on hand for him when he comes over.
Just a few minutes later, the batter is ready, he has to wait a couple minutes for the oven to finish heating up though.
Soon, he's spooning the batter into the muffin tin, carefully placing it in the oven, and setting a timer on his phone.
He decides to send Techno a text, knowing he won't see it until well after he's gone.
He snaps a picture of his socks against Techno's kitchen floor, sending it with the caption, "I'm in your house."
Laughing softly to himself, he busies himself with the dishes.
Once that's done, he sits on the counter, thinking about things.
His interactions with Techno are like the opposite of his work schedule, he comes over almost every evening in the summer, then as school picks back up, it slowly tapers off just as Techno's working hours pick up.
By winter, Tommy's prescence is scarce and Techno's holed up in his room, writing almost every waking hour.
At first, Tommy didn't think it was healthy, but now he really doesn't think healthy is a standard, look at their relationship after all.
Techno seems fine nowadays anyways, Tommy's usually gone by time Techno comes out of his room to rummage through the kitchen, but somedays Techno will come down and catch him in the act.
He loves those times the most.
Tommy's always loved Techno, always missed him in the winter, but now it's different.
Now he's not just missing the man's cool wisdom, and his calm company, his enthralling stories.
Now he's missing his intimacy, the gentle touches, the heartfelt words, the way Techno's eyes shine, only for him.
He sighs dreamily.
He's just upstairs, he could crash his party, but he knows he's deep in his work, doesn't want to intrude and mess up his focus.
He sighs again, somewhat sadder this time.
Spring will come around like it always does and pull Techno from his work induced hibernation, and Tommy will once more have a monopoly of his time.
The buzzing of the timer brings him to attention, hurriedly slipping on an oven mitt and getting the muffins out.
He sets them onto the counter, allowing them to cool down just enough to slip out of the tin while he turns off the oven, double checks to make sure everything is at rights.
Once they're cooled down, he stretches, getting ready.
He's made it a game to knock on Techno's door, then sprint out of the house as fast as possible.
Once this had made him slip on the stairs and wind up with a sprained ankle.
He laughs at that memory, wincing as he feels a phantom twinge in his ankle.
He had insisted it was broken, declaring that he was dying and that Techno needed to take him to the hospital.
Techno, knowing what's what about injuries had known right away it was not broken, just sprained.
He had shushed Tommy, putting ice on it and making sure he was well enough to limp, with his help of course, back to his own house.
His mom had been in a tizzy, knowing how clumsy he was, flitting back and forth between apologizing to Techno and worrying about Tommy.
He hasn't learned his lesson though.
He carefully sneaks up the stairs, knowing exactly which steps creak and where.
Once he's up them without a single sound, he creeps over To Techno's door, knocking four times, as is custom, before exploding down the hallway.
In his room, Techno rolls his eyes, accustomed to it at this point.
He hurtles down the stairs and barely catches himself before he's flat against the door, snatching his coat and stuffing his feet into his shoes and flinging open the door.
Only, the door doesn't fling open and he slams against it with an audible oof.
He shoves against it a couple times, trying to make it budge.
He looks out the small window beside the door to see... Nothing?
That can't be right.
His phone buzzes again in his pocket, he pulls it out with fingers buzzy with adrenaline.
"WINTER STORM WATCH" is blared across the screen in red letters.
Great, there's a fucking blizzard.
His mom's gonna kill him.
He leans back against the door, sliding down it and collapsing into a pool on the floor.
He pouts, sad that his game was spoiled.
He knows it childish, but still, he enjoys this, so he's gonna pout about it.
Normally, being stuck in Techno's house wouldn't be a hassle at all, he'd just go find him and curl around him like a blonde scarf, but this is winter, and he has no idea when Techno will come out of his room next.
He sits there and stews.
It's unfair that his boyfriend has to basically go MIA during the winter months, it's unfair that his game was spoiled.
It's even more unfair that he's down here while Techno's up there.
He wraps his arms around his knees, resting his head on them and continuing to pout.
It feels like forever before he hears the door upstairs creak open.
Techno's lumbering foot falls sound from the stairs.
They stop in the middle and it's a second before he hears Techno's husky voice.
"Honey? What're you doing here?"
Tommy looks up at him, still pouting, though less now.
"There's a blizard, can't open the door."
Techno gets a lopsided smile on his face, half apologetic and half amused.
"Oh sweetheart, c'mere."
Tommy gets up, basically falling into Techno's outstretched arms.
He presses his face into Techno's grey sweater, breathing in his comforting scent and relaxing into his embrace.
He can't help but smile, feeling safe in Techno's arms.
Techno just holds him there for a minute, before he begins to rock them back and forth, squeesing Tommy tighter before just picking him up and carrying him into the kitchen with him.
Tommy clings to him like a koala, arms going around Techno's neck, his legs wrapping around his waist, burying his face into his neck, directly under his chin.
Techno grabs a saucer, putting three muffins on it.
"You got my favourite."
He whispers softly, warmth evident in his voice.
Tommy feels a kiss be pressed to the top of his head.
Then Techno's carrying both him and the saucer upstairs.
Tommy's always finding new ways to be in awe of Techno's strength.
He's set down on the end of Techno's bed in way that somewhat reminescent of July a little over a year ago, the saucer finds it's way to the desk and Techno's lips to his.
Techno cups his cheek, kissing him softly.
Tommy feels just as in love as the first time they kissed, can still faintly remember the lemon on his lips.
He holds fast to Techno, clingy from the distance the cold created between them.
Techno just picks him up, carrying him over to his chair, sitting down and positioning Tommy in his lap.
Tommy sighs, content to just lay against him for hours.
The tap tap tap of Techno's fingers on the keys of his laptop, the soft, warm and buttery scent of fresh baked muffins lulling him.
He doesn't quite fall asleep, instead slipping into some easy, half awake, half asleep limbo.
The rise and fall of Techno's chest as he breathes, steady and dependable.
The way that Techno will occasionally rest a hand on his back while he presumably thinks of where next to take his story.
He nuzzles against his chest, he could almost purr right now.
It's about an hour before Tommy's phone buzzes in his pocket.
He sleepily digs it out, propping his head on Techno's shoulder as he reads it.
It's a frantic text from his mom, asking where he is.
"At techno's" he sends back, not thinking too hard about it.
The reply is immediate, "did you get snowed in?"
"Yeah."
"Well atleast you're safe, tell mr blade hi for me."
He sends back an okay, tucking his phone back into his pocket.
He hides his face against the side of Techno's head, warm breath coming against his ear.
"Mom says hi."
Techno hums in response.
Tommy doesn't mind it, finding Techno's quiet to be calming.
He ends up staying the night.
He falls asleep in Techno's lap, waking up to find himself on the bed, nestled up against him, Techno's hand splayed posessively across his hip.
It makes him feel fuzzy on the inside like a sweater in a warm dark hole in a felt tree.
He yawns softly, feeling like a very small animal who has just slept for thirteen hours and could sleep for about thirteen more.
He doesn't know when Techno decided he was too tired to write anymore, but he knows it was probably later than it should have been.
Maybe he needs to stage an intervention.
The thought passes sleepily through his mind, bearing no weight on it before it's gone again.
He just wiggles closer to Techno, carding fingers through his hair and burying his face into his chest.
The next morning, when the sun is reflecting of the snow and setting the curtains aflame with bright white, Tommy finds himself alone in Techno's bed.
He sits up, rubbing at his head and groaning, looking for Techno.
He's not in his chair.
He gets up out of bed, going downstairs to find Techno in the kitchen, making eggs.
When Techno sees him, he doesn't say anything, just hums and smiles softly.
He dishes up two plates of eggs handing one, and a fork to Tommy.
Techno leans in, kissing his temple, but doesn't pull away immediately after, just rests his face there.
"Made you breakfast." He rumbles.
Tommy smiles in return, "Thank you."
The warmth in his voice is tangible as he shoves a forkful of fluffy eggs into his mouth.
He accidently burns his mouth though, making Techno laugh softly as he hops around the kitchen, waving a hand in front of his mouth as he aggressively chews.
It's noon before the snows melted enough for Techno to be able to strong man the door open.
Tommy would be lying if he hadn't flushed a bit at the display.
Then he had said goodbye to Techno, giving him a sneaky kiss on the cheek before he went home and let his mom fuss over him.
Falling asleep in his bed that night felt a lot lighter than he usually does in the winter months.
