Summary
The notes are shoved into Eddie’s locker, lewd offers for a no strings attached, no eye contact encounter from guys that refuse to dirty up their life, their social standing, or the pretty perfect All American girl they’re dating with the stigma of being gay.
It’s only ever Eddie on his knees in the dirt, on the ground, on the locker room floor, rough hands and sneers, never reciprocation but always ‘this never happened’’ and being ignored the next day like whoever Eddie is and how he loves is wrong.
Eddie laughs at their anger and bats his eyes obnoxious when they pass in school. He pretends their words don’t hurt and soaks up the brief seconds of fake affection so he won’t feel lonely anymore, so he can stop thinking about King Steve and unrequited love before it breaks his heart again.
But one day, STEVE is the one to leave a note in Eddie’s locker and it HAS to be a joke, some sort of cruel, taunting, popular kids ganging up on The Freak hell of a joke, right?
