Chapter Text
- ❄️ -
"Ughn no, five more minutes." Langa blindly reaches for his phone, wanting to stop the insisting alarm. 'where is it? did I leave it charging last night?'
He finally opened his eyes to search for it. 'wait, did I sleep at Reki's?' He sat up and grabbed the phone he saw on the nightstand, and turned off the alarm.
Lying back down in bed, he looked at the hair falling on his face. It was red. He sat up again.
Grabbing the hair with both hands, Langa finally realized that something was happening. He picked up the phone again, and now that he was actually paying attention, he saw that the face reflecting back at him on the screen wasn't his.
- 🌺 -
In the meantime at Langa's place, Reki was screaming.
"WHAT?!"
He was standing in front of the mirror, grabbing at his (well, Langa's) hair, with his mouth open in shock.
"Oh man, oh fuck, what the fuck is happening."
He was pacing, and stopping every time he passed in front of the mirror.
"Am I still dreaming?" He pinched his arm, hard. "Ow! Fuck ."
Going back to the bed, he grabbed the phone from under the pillow. It's Langa's.
"Okay okay, so that probably means that Langa's got mine… right?"
Thankfully, Reki knew how to unlock his friend's phone. He went back to pacing as he called his own number.
- ❄️ -
The phone in Langa's hand started ringing. He was startled for a moment, then he answered.
"He-"
"LANGA? OH MY GOD, DUDE, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!"
"Um, I don't know, Reki. I just woke up in your bed… in your body, I guess? I don't know. Where are you?"
"I- yeah, me too… WAIT, DON'T LEAVE MY ROOM! Fuck, this is bad, man."
"Wait, why can't I leave?"
"BECAUSE! You're me, but you're not me, and my mom is definitely gonna notice something different, so you just… stay, pretend to be sleeping, don't answer if someone calls! I'll be right there."
"Oh… okay, Reki."
- 🌺 -
Reki hung up. He quickly got dressed and left the room. The apartment was very quiet, Reki guessed that Nanako had already left for work.
He sighed in relief, and made his way to the bathroom to wash his face.
"Oh, right. I'm…" Beautiful , he thought upon seeing Langa's face reflecting back in the mirror. "Ugh, no no no! Stop." He splashed the cold water on his face.
Then he felt an overwhelming need to empty his bladder.
"Oh no, fuck fuck, NO! What do I do, oh god."
He took the phone out from his pocket and called Langa again.
"H-Hey man, so…" Reki started talking as soon as Langa answered. "I kinda have to, um, pee. AND I'M SORRY, I PROMISE I WON'T LOOK, well, as much as I can avoid it, so yeah. I just thought I should tell you, so… okay, I have to go! I'M REALLY SORRY, BYE."
"Fuck fuck fuck!" Reki put the phone on the sink, lifted the toilet seat, and unbuttoned his pants with shaky hands. "Okay, okay, I can do this! I HAVE to do this."
He took a deep breath before starting. True to his word, Reki only looked long enough to be able to aim.
"Oh man, fuck, this is so weird." He kept staring at the wall the whole time. He finished, tucked himself back inside, and went to wash his hands. With one last look in the mirror, he sighed and left.
- ❄️ -
In Reki's room, Langa was looking down at his crotch. He didn't even have time to answer before Reki hung up. Not that he had any idea what he'd say.
He hadn't even thought about that before Reki's last call. But now he couldn't stop thinking about it.
It was like his (well, Reki's ) body knew he couldn't leave the room, so the urge went from 0 to 100 in seconds.
'Please hurry, Reki.'
Not knowing how to unlock his friend's phone, Langa had to settle for reading an old skating magazine that was Reki's desk to distract himself.
- 🌺 -
"Ow! Crap." On the way to his house, Reki kept stumbling, trying to move fast on a skateboard so different from his own. "How does Langa ride this thing? Ugh."
Finally falling down after turning a corner, Reki decided to run instead.
Picking up the skateboard, he ran. He didn't stop until he saw the house at a close distance, then Reki slowed down, stopped to catch his breath, and walked until he was standing just outside his bedroom window.
He texted Langa for him to open the window, climbed up the ramp and, with Langa's help, he was inside.
They stood there, in the middle of the room, looking at each other. Reki reached out, his hands shaking as he touched Langa's hair, his hair, then drew his hand back suddenly.
"What the fuck is happening?"
"I don't know, but um… Reki?" Langa sat on the bed, bouncing his legs.
"...What?"
"I really need to use the bathroom." Langa whispered.
"Shit." Reki stared at him, before he started pacing. "Yeah o-okay, of course you do, fuck. Right, okay." He stopped by the door. "I don't hear anything, so the girls must still be in bed, but mom's probably in the kitchen so, just try to be quiet and hurry back!"
Langa nodded on his way to the door. "Reki?" He said, turning to him. "I promise I won't look, either."
Reki swallowed. "Okay."
Then Langa was out the door. Closing it behind him, Reki leaned on the door and sighed. "Fuck."
- 🌺❄️ -
"What do you think happened, then?" Langa asked.
They were sitting on Reki's bed after his return, trying to figure out their situation. After exhaustingly going over every reasonable explanation, they were getting desperate.
"I don't know, man! There's no logical explanation for this! Ugh." Letting out an exasperated groan, Reki put his hands on his face, muffling another groan.
Langa laughed at that, making him look up again. "What's so funny?"
"It's so weird seeing my face making these expressions, and being so… dramatic." Langa replied.
"Hey!" Reki pointed a finger at him. "I am not being dramatic! My reaction is perfectly fitting for the situation we're in."
"Isn't there a saying that goes something like 'once you've eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however unlikely, must be the truth'?"
"That's from Sherlock Holmes, man, and it doesn't really apply in our case. The only option left is the impossible one." Reki reasoned.
"Okay, and what option is that?"
"...magic." Reki mumbled.
"Oh. Okay. But, Reki, that's… magic is not real. Right?"
"I don't know! How else could something like this!" Reki frantically moved his hands between them "Be possible?! I don't know what to think anymore."
"I could probably think better if I wasn't so hungry…"
"Of course you're hungry." Reki chuckled.
"And, your mom is making breakfast. I could smell it in the hallway."
"Okay, okay!" Getting out of bed, Reki started pacing as he talked. "How should we do this? I should probably-"
"Reki, are you up already?" Masae started saying as she suddenly opened the door. "I heard voices, but I- oh, Langa." She said in surprise seeing him standing there.
"Ah, hey mo- mam, I mean. Hello Mrs Kyan, good morning!" Reki nervously scratched the back of his head.
"Good morning, honey. I didn't expect you to be here so early when you boys don't even have school anymore."
"Ah, right. Yeah I, um… I forgot my phone!" He grabbed the phone from his pocket. "Yeah, I left it in Reki's backpack last night."
"Alright." Masae replied with a knowing smile. "Well, breakfast is ready, and you're welcome to join us, Langa."
"Thank you."
"Of course." Then with a last look at both of them, she was out the door.
Reki sighed as he sat beside Langa on the bed. "Big help you were!"
"Sorry, Reki. I didn't know what to say. Didn't wanna make it worse."
"It's okay, let's just go eat. And you, keep the talking to a minimum."
"I usually do, anyway. You're the one that should watch your mouth."
"Ugh, you're right. Shit." Sighting again, Reki got up. "Okay, we can do this! Come on."
Some time later, they were halfway done with breakfast without much issue. Until...
"Langa, honey? Is everything alright? You barely touched your food." Masae asked with concern.
It took Reki a moment to realize she was talking to him. "Oh, yeah no, I'm fine. Just… still a bit sleepy." Then he took a bite before saying "Food is delicious as always, Mrs Kyan."
"Ah, thank you!"
"Look at Reki, though." Koyomi said with a snicker.
Looking to his side, Reki saw Langa stuffing his face with food. He discreetly shoved him with his elbow.
"You both are acting really weird." Koyomi said.
"It looks like you two switched places." Masae said with a laugh.
Reki choked as he was drinking his juice.
Langa started patting his back. "Are you okay?"
"Langa! What happened?" Masae asked.
"I'm fine." Reki replied once he stopped coughing. "Just got in the wrong pipe."
"Hm." Koyomi hummed as she looked suspiciously at him.
"Um, thanks for the food mo- Mrs Kyan, it was delicious." Reki said, then he turned to Langa. "Are you done? Can we go now?" He said in a lower voice.
Langa nodded, so they got up. They went back to Reki's room without saying anything else.
"That was a disaster, man!" Reki whispered after closing the door behind him.
"It wasn't so bad."
"No, I'm telling you. We suck at pretending to be each other, we shouldn't be around people we know until we can figure this out!"
"Well, at least school is over."
"Yeah, at least we don't have to worry about that." Reki sighed. "What do we do, Langa?"
"Wanna go to the skatepark? It was the last place we were before going home last night. Maybe we could find some clues? I don't know…"
"No, yeah, it's a good idea. Okay, come on, then."
