Beca and Chloe had been texting and calling each other every day for the past couple weeks. They haven’t seen each other again since that day on the beach due to their schedules and availability just never lining up. What with Beca working during the day and DJing at a club three nights a week and Chloe working full time at a vet clinic then tending to her son every night. They were fine with it though, both of them very understanding towards the other’s situation.
After a couple weeks of just phone calls and short text conversations throughout the day, Beca just couldn’t take not seeing Chloe in person anymore. She knew where the woman had worked, it was only a few blocks away from her own office, so she decided to take the short 15 minute walk during her lunch break to stop by and say hi.
I hope she’s in today… Beca thought to herself as she opened the front door to the Bella’s Fur-ends Veterinary Clinic . When she walked in, she was quite impressed. It was a nice cozy space with plenty of room for people and their pets to sit around comfortably. She walked straight up to the counter to greet the smiling person who had spotted her walking in.
“Hi, welcome to Bella’s Fur-ends . My name is Jessica, how may I help you?” the receptionist, Jessica, asked her politely.
“Uh…Hey, um, I was wondering if Chloe…or, uh, Dr. Beale was in right now?” Beca asked awkwardly, trying not to sound too eager to see the redhead.
“Oh, Dr. Beale? Yes, she is. Do you have an appointment?” Jessica responded back. “Uh, no. Not exactly. I was just wonder-” Beca was interrupted mid sentence.
“Ok Jess, that was the last one of the morning. I’m off to lunch, I’ll be back in an hour.” Beca heard Chloe say as she walked out of the office doors into the waiting room staring at her phone, probably texting Beca.
She finally looks up after seeing someone at the front desk. “Oh my God, Beca! What are you doing here?!” She exclaimed excitedly as she went in to hug the brunette.
“I was in the neighborhood and was wondering if you were free to grab some lunch.” Beca chuckled after they pulled away from the hug. “And it sounds like you’ve got about an hour before you have to get back so…” she jokingly checks her watch and raises an eyebrow at Jessica to ‘confirm’.
“Just bring her back before her 1:30pm appointment comes in.” Jessica rolls her eyes, but plays along. “Yes ma’am.” Beca mockingly salutes and then offers her hand to Chloe to walk out the clinic together.
They end up going to a bistro a couple blocks away from the clinic. After they ordered their drinks and food, they finally turned their attention to each other.
“So…should we consider this our first date or…?” Chloe subtly asks, her fingers creeping on the table towards Beca’s hand.
Beca lets out a small chuckle and smirks. “Well, I guess so seeing as we never really had the time before now to get together.”
“I don’t actually remember you asking me out actually? For all I know, this could just be a place that two friends decided to eat together, coincidentally.” Chloe teases her hand finally reaching Beca’s and Beca turning her hand over so that they can interlock their fingers.
“I believe I did ask you out when we were back at the clinic.” Beca recalled.
“Noooo you asked Jessica. And you asked her if I was free to grab lunch, not out on a date” Chloe countered back.
“Hmmph, I guess I did. Well then I guess it is just two friends eating lunch at the same place, together, coincidentally.” Beca responded in a cool manner taking a small sip of her water. Chloe feigned shock and playfully slapped her on the shoulder. “Ouch, violence woman!” Beca teased while rubbing her shoulder, but Chloe just pouted back.
“Fine. Would you, Chloe Beale, like to go out on a lunch date with me?” Beca relented. Chloe sat and thought for a long moment, not saying anything but humming as if she was thinking. Beca sat impatiently with her eyes wide prompting Chloe after she hadn’t answered immediately. Chloe finally leaned over and kissed her on the cheek, “I’d love to go out on a lunch date with you.” She said with a wink. Beca just sat there with her cheeks turning a slight shade of pink.
Their food arrived and they both enjoyed their conversation throughout their meal. Beca retells a story about one of the other interns having to spend the day separating Skittles for one of the studio’s clients (“I can’t believe he had to do that!” Chloe laughed. “Hey, whatever the client wants, the client gets. I’m just glad I wasn’t the poor soul who had to do it.” Beca explained) , and Chloe recounting her morning of helping one of her clients dogs give birth to nine puppies (“Oh my God, Becs. They were so cute! I swear I was so close to taking a few of them home if it wasn’t for the fact that I still had a whole day ahead of me” Chloe recalled. Beca just smiled around taking a sip of her water.) .
The conversations kept flowing and eventually Beca looked at the time. “Well Dr. Beale, looks like our time is coming to an end. I promised a certain receptionist that I would have you back at a reasonable hour.” she said signing the check and getting up to offer her hand for Chloe to get up as well. Chloe just chuckled at her charming antics. “Why thank you Ms. Mitchell. I’m sure my receptionist and patients would be happy to have me back when expected.” Chloe said back.
They walked back to the clinic hand in hand, stealing glances, and smiling at each other. The walk back to the clinic wasn’t that long and, sadly, they reached their destination sooner than either of them had liked.
Beca opened the door for Chloe to let her walk in first, “Thank you, so chivalrous.” Chloe said. Beca just smiled and led her to the front desk. “Your Dr. Beale back, safe and sound. And on time.” Beca mockingly stretched their joint hands to Jessica as if to return Chloe to her. “Why thank you, Ms…” “Beca. Just Beca. Sorry I never introduced myself earlier.” Beca explains to Jessica while actually extending her hand for Jessica to shake. “Oh I know who you are, I’m just messing with you.” Jessica joked as Beca tilted her head down slightly embarrassed.
“Ok, well I guess this is where I leave you.” Beca said with her hands in her pockets so as to not reach out for Chloe and keep her from her work. She was back to her awkward self again.
“I guess so. I had a really great time this afternoon Becs.” Chloe said while leaning in to leave a kiss on Beca’s cheek. “I’ll call you later?” she asked the brunette.
“Sure. I’ll text you. Have a good rest of your day, Chloe” Beca said. “You too, Becs.” Chloe replied with a smile on her face. Beca turned to face Jessica again, “Thank you for letting me take out your best doctor. I hope you all have a nice day.” Beca joked with Jessica again as she backed away towards the front entrance.
Chloe just smiled and stared at the door as Beca walked out. “Oh you are so smitten.” Jessica commented smugly at Chloe while she was still in her trance. “Shut up, get back to work. Has my 1:30pm arrived yet?” Chloe commanded, but with no heat to her comments. Jessica just handed her the patient’s file as Chloe walked to the back to get back to work.
Beca arrived back at the studio shortly after, sat at her desk, and pulled out her phone.
[To Chloe]: I had a really nice time this afternoon. Hopefully we can do it again soon? Have a great rest of your day, Chlo
[To Chloe]: Oh and you better take pic of those new pups you told me about during lunch. I know you said they were cute, but….pics or it’s not true!
Chloe felt her phone vibrate just as she was walking out of the patient room after a routine check up. She saw she had a couple texts from Beca and smiled.
[To Beca]: I had a great time as well. Thank you for having lunch with me. I’d say it was a fantastic first date :) I can’t wait for the next one. Have a good day Becs. Call me later.
A few hours went by and Chloe was wrapping up her last appointment of the day. She gathered all her stuff from her office and started to head out. Before she reached the door to the waiting room, she made a quick detour to their overnight boarding area and checked in on the mama doggie and her new pups. She snapped a few quick pics and sent them to Beca.
Later that night after Chloe had gotten Jamie settled for bed and she was finished cleaning up in the kitchen and living room, she received a call from her favorite brunette.
“Ok Chlo, I believe you. Those puppies are the cutest things I’ve ever seen! Well, I can think of a couple other things, you might know about them. A couple of redheads, bluest eyes like the ocean, some freckles around the cheeks. But other than them, the puppies are the next cutest.” Beca spoke through the phone as soon as Chloe answered. They ended up talking for the next couple hours about the rest of their days and even planned the next date for that Friday (still during lunch, but they’d take what they can get). Still Chloe was reeling at the revelation Beca dropped at the beginning of the call.
She swooned at the way that Beca described how she thought she was cute. However, she absolutely melted when she heard that she had included her little boy in there as well. Beca Mitchell was a charmer for sure and Chloe Beale was falling, fast and hard. And Beca, she was in the same boat. Never call her a softie, but she’d absolutely be a marshmallow for the two redheads who seem to have occupied her mind and her heart.
