Work Text:
Sakusa’s summer was going along rather slowly.
First, his uncle asked him to work at his drink stand for the summer. Sakusa, who had imagined a cool air conditioner on his back, readily agreed to prepare for a rather easy and laid-back summer.
His uncle had also neglected to mention that the drink stand is on a beach, in the middle of a beach, and the air conditioner was broken. Sakusa was starting to debate the benefits/losses of breaking family ties.
He groaned as he adjusted his visor for the third time that day, it was supposed to be 33 degrees Celsius that day. He hadn’t had many customers for a while and was just about to sit down when a head of beach blond hair popped through the window.
Attached to that head was probably one of the most beautiful people Kiyoomi had ever seen in his life, dark brown eyes peered into his with an ounce of curiosity. After finding his bearing Sakusa stood up, he looked at the other boy and asked,
“Is there anything I can get for you?”.
“Ya thanks”, and Ohmygod his accent were the first thoughts that entered Kiyoomis’ head,
“I was just wonderin’ if ya’ll sell any grapes?”, the boy responded.
What? Sakusa’s face fell, this was a new one.
He cocked his eyebrow no longer feeling quite as smitten, “You are aware this is a lemonade shake stand right? Can I interest you in a glass?”,
“Nahhh but thank ya”, the boy sauntered off, disappearing from view as quickly as he came in”.
—
The next day was the same, just as hot… and just as miserable.
The only difference was the number of customers. It had seemed like the hot weather had finally started to kick into everyone’s senses seeing as Sakusa was swarmed with orders the moment he finished setting up. When it had seemed like everyone on the beach was holding a frosty lemonade in their hand Sakusa scrambled for a chair to sit down and rest. No sooner had he sat when a familiar blond head poked through the window once again and a pair of eyes rested on him.
“Hey there”, the boy began to speak in that same drawl that Sakusa had later figured out was Kansai dialect after obsessing over it for an hour, “Just wonderin’ if ya’ had any grapes today”.
Sakusa, already annoyed that the boy had interrupted his brief moment of respite responded with, “I’m pretty sure I told you yesterday that we don’t sell grapes here, just frosted lemonade”.
“Just double-checkin’!”, the boy winked and flounced off again before Sakusa had the chance to catch his name.
—
This time, Sakusa anticipated him, the minute he saw the blond hair, he went on the attack.
“I regret to inform you that even after your consistent visits we still do not magically have grapes in stock. There is a perfectly good market down the road”, feeling quite content with himself, Sakusa sat right back down and turned in the other direction, he hears footsteps leave and breathes a sigh of relief.
The wasn’t a single feeling of guilt, nope not one at all”.
After a while, the sun started to go down and Kiyoomi began to put stuff away. There was a rustling at the window and he turned to look into what seemed like the same pair of brown eyes. Except is wasn’t the same pair of brown eyes, currently, these eyes were steely whilst surveying him up and down. This pair of eyes were attached to a silver-haired head, but that’s where the differences stop.
The stranger speaks, “Ya seen my brother anywhere round’ here?”
Sakusa nods, “He had blond hair right?”, when the silver-haired boy affirms his statement he keeps going, “Yeah he kept coming here asking for grapes, and when I told him we didn’t sell them here he just left every time”.
The other boy groans, “Tsumu’s such an idiot, I told him this wouldn’t work”,.
“Mind telling me what you mean?”, Sakusa asked
“My brother has been trying to flirt with ya’ all week”, the words came out flat.
Oh
“I’ll be right back”, Sakusa said while leaving the stand and even he could detect the note of panic in his voice.
He ran down to the gas station and upon finding no one there he approached the cashier and asked him if he’d seen any boy with blond hair and brown eyes come through. The cashier nodded.
‘Yeah that boy comes here every morning and buys a pack of grapes, says something about a cute boy and a drink stand”.
“I know this is rather rude but could you leave him a message for me, please tell him to bring grapes tomorrow”, and with that Sakusa rushed out of the store only to find the lookalike gone from the stand.
—
The next morning Sakusa waited anxiously for the other boy to show up.
He was rather surprised when a hand popped through instead of a head, he reached out and shook it.
The other boy smiled and said, “My name Atsumu. Atsumu Miya”.
“Sakusa Kiyoomi, no grapes this time?”.
With a grin, Atsumu replied, “Nah I rather fancied myself a glass of lemonade”.
