Summary
There was a moment when Gawain was climbing into bed that she looked to the door of her room expectantly, like she’d forgotten what happened and was waiting for her dog to come padding in after her. Tears brimmed and spilled over. Shane wiped them away before she realized she was crying. “Sweetheart,” he said lowly, thanking Yoba she wasn’t in a place to call him out on it, thumbs just barely brushing her cheekbones, “you need to sleep.”
Her lip trembled as another tear leaked out. “Can you stay?” she sniffled.
Shane’s eyes flicked back and forth between hers as he considered. They both pretended not to notice he was still holding her face. Finally, he said, “…Let me use your phone.”
