Work Text:
"Why me?" Thoma asks, lips smiling but it doesn't reach his eyes because he's confused. He's happyㅡarchons, he is very happy that the Traveller proposed to him.
But, he's just a nobody.
"Because you are you," the Traveller says. The Traveller squeezes his hands gently, trying to reassute him. But Thoma sighs while maintaining the smile that doesn't really reach his eyes.
"...But, you are the Traveller," Thoma says after staying silent for a moment.
"The strongest. The most extraordinary. The one who defeated the Dragon of The East. The one who helped in defeating the ancient sea monster in Liyue. The one who put an end to the Vision Hunt Decree."
The Traveller is such an amazing person. They have travelled everywhere, met all kinds of people, human or not, done amazing things that would put their name in the Teyvat history book. Children will learn their name and know the good deeds they have done to save the world. They are destined to do and achieve great things,
and Thoma is sure that marrying and settling down with him isn't one of those things.
After all, he is just your normal, average guy. He is just an ordinary guy from Mondstadt, one of the helpers in the Yashiro Commission. He is no archon, no adeptus, no amazing beings that the Traveller has probably met before.
He is just a human. An ordinary human who has no special power. Sure, he has a vision, but lots of other people have it, too. The only power he can brag about is probably his housekeeping skills. And the fact that it is easy for him to befriend the animals.
What would people say if he ends up with the Traveller? People would definitely talk if they see the Traveller together with just an ordinary guy.
An ordinary guy with no power and no achievement to his name.
(The only achievement he can ever brag about is probably the fact that he can clean the Kamisato house in record time.)
Despite everything, the Traveller smiles warmly.
"I do not care about that, Thoma," the Traveller says. "What I care about is you. I am willing to throw away everything if it means that I can be with you."
His throat dries when Traveller pulls out a wooden box from their pocket. When opened, it reveals a pretty ring made from wild flowers.
"Sorry, with all the things that I have been doing, I haven't had the time to make you a proper ring," they say sheepishly. "I hope this will be enough for now. I promise thoughㅡI will get you something better than this. A proper ring, because you deserve it."
Thoma feels his sight getting blurry.
He still can't believe itㅡthe Traveller chose him? To be together with him for eternity? Among all those amazing beings they've met, they chose him?
"Yes, Thomaㅡit has always been you," they say, as if they are able to read his mind. But this is the Traveller, after all. He wouldn't be surprised if they actually can do mind reading.
"So," they say again, with hopeful eyes looking at himㅡand if Thoma didn't believe them before, he has no other choice but to believe because their eyes are shining, brightly and warmly, and so full of love. Their lips are smiling, widely and happily it reaches their eyes, but also shaking a little bit because of nervousness. And their hands holding Thoma's tightly, showing no signs of letting him go.
"Will you allow me to be a part of your life for eternity, Thoma?"
Their voice are shaky, unlike the usual Traveller he knowsㅡstrong and confident. And Thoma knows that both of their heart are beating wildly right now, mirrorring each other's.
Thoma intertwines their hands together and smiles brightly, despite the tears threatening to fall from his eyes. He leans down, stopping with just a little distance between him and the Traveller.
"You have always been a constant part of my life, traveller," he whispers, "and I'd like for you to remain until forever."
He leans even more and meets the lips of the love of his life.
