We interrupt our regularly scheduled Time-Travel insanity to bring you a little side story!

Work Text:

Turnback Cave, some say it’s a myth, and some say it’s as real as any other Pokemon habitat. However, this cave is said to be the residence of the Legendary Pokemon Giratina. A Pokémon that has been feared since Sinnohese antiquity. Some people, even in Modern Sinnoh, don’t even dare speak its name. According to historical records from the old Hisuian era, a man named Volo went as far as to use its power for a malicious purpose: Destroying Time and Space in an attempt to meet Arceus.

In the modern era, there was also an individual who wanted to destroy time and space, however, what he wanted was to create a whole new reality. But that time, Giratina, it seemed, wasn’t so willing to let such actions slide. In fact, a testimonial from a young girl states that he is in the Distortion World itself. How is a human able to survive in such a place? No one knows. But the young girl, Dawn, after the events of the incident went on to become one of Sinnoh’s newest regional Champion.

Dawn has been described as a kind and intelligent character. She travelled the Sinnoh Region with her beloved Pokemon and was even said to have been involved in stopping and apprehending the nefarious Team Galactic. Despite being so young, she was skilled enough to even take down their leader, Cyrus. And on top of that, she even befriended Giratina in its own dimension, The Distortion World.

The Distortion World is still but a myth to a majority of the human world. But Dawn stated that it is much like the myths: A world totally opposite of our own. Now, Dawn spends much of her time with her Pokémon and battling other Trainers. However, it seems that she visits the very foggy and mysterious Turnback Cave quite often…

”Password?

Boomed a Deep, slithering voice. A small figure nodded before responding with,

“Girasol and Cupcakes.”

Out of the shadows, two glowing red eyes emerged from the cave’s darkness. Giratina’s large figure towered over the young girl, as the draconic Legendary Pokemon was nearly three times her own height.

“Good to see you again, Dawn.”

“You know I’ll always be happy to visit you here. I also brought your favorite: Sweet-Dry Poffins.”

Giratina gave a appreciative chirp to Dawn after she presented the box to the Renegade Pokemon. Poffins were a lovely treat and despite the enhancements, they came with no purpose, but they were delicious nonetheless. Dawn brought a picnic spread for herself and her main Team: Empoleon, Lucario, Togekiss, Glaceon, Roserade, and Mismagius. She released them from their Pokeballs, and they too, seemed happy to see Giratina, especially Mismagius. There was no fog in the deepest part of the cave, but the fog outside was great for obscuring their location from prying eyes. Normally, Dawn would have either her brother, Lucas, or her mentor, Cynthia with her. But today, she wished to go alone.

Being a Regional Champion, it wasn’t uncommon for the media to want to intrude on her personal life, hoping to find some kind of story for various tabloid magazines.

But not today

The picnic spread consisted of Berry sandwiches, Oran-spice tea, and Poffins of varying flavors for the Pokemon. Despite the cave’s chilly temperature, it was quite pleasant that day. Peaceful, almost.

“Say, Giratina, why were you so eager to stop Cyrus?

Dawn asked,

“Well, your cousin, Akari, after traveling back to the old Hisuian era had to stop a similar situation. Admittedly, the man responsible is the reason I do not like your mentor. She… reminds me a little too much of him."

Giratina’s voice became deep with anger and hatred. Call me ‘prejudiced’, but she has a little too much in common with that man than what makes me comfortable.”

“Who was he? Is he actually related to Cynthia?”

Dawn asked, sipping more of her Oran-spice tea. Giratina gave a solemn nod in reply.

“It does not help that she has a similar set of Pokemon to him…”

Giratina paused, it didn’t know how much it should give away to Dawn. She probably knew a bit about Volo, considering her cousin had since returned to modern day. Dawn reminded him so much of her that it wasn’t even funny anymore. She, like Akari, was but a child when a catastrophe befell the region. After realizing what Cyrus’s true plans were, Giratina refused to let another such person so much as partially succeed in their plans. Even Arceus itself seemed to approve of Giratina’s choice to imprison Cyrus in its dimension. In the Renegade Pokémon’s eyes, this was the best thing for the main Pokémon world.

Despite his mortal friend initially disagreeing with Giratina's decision at first, Dawn was convinced by Cynthia and the International Police to drop the issue, Cyrus could no longer cause any more trouble. Questionable view on the topic? Yes, but in the end, it brought peace to The Sinnoh region.

—————————————

Life for Dawn afterwards was also relatively peaceful, Save for her Champion duties. The international police had since apprehended what was left of Team Galactic. Those members, especially the high-ranked ones had stood trial and were given lengthy prison sentences. Giratina would often look on from the Distortion World at the young girl’s progress, proud of how much she had grown.

————————-

Dawn, her Pokemon, and Giratina spent the rest of the day together. As night began to fall, Dawn and the Renegade Pokemon said their ‘good-byes’ and they promised that they’d see each other again soon.
