You sat at the Watchtower control station observing the monitors waiting for trouble to pop up. But to your pleasant surprise there was nothing, the world was quiet and peaceful for once. It made sense as you and the League had just taken down a threat a few hours prior.
The rest of the League had since gone home to rest. You volunteered to stay and watch, leaving you alone in the tower. You turned off the computer screen and let out an enormous yawn stretching your arms out above your head.
“Tired, my love?” a voice asked behind you. Well not completely alone. You smiled and turned around to find Wonder Woman standing behind you holding an iced mocha and a black cold brew.
“Hey babe,” you said with a smile. Diana smiled back and offered you the cold brew. You accepted it happily and took a sip.
“Ahh delicious,” you let out a relieved sigh. Diana chuckled and waved her hand in front of you ordering you to move your arms. You obliged and she took a seat on your lap. You wrapped your arms around her waist holding her close to you as she leaned against you pressing her body against yours. She gave you a kiss on the forehead and began to talk to you.
“I’ll never understand it,” she said and took a sip from her drink. Your brow furrowed in confusion.
“What's that?” you asked.
“How you can drink that stuff, it’s just cold bitter water that somehow tastes like the color black” she explained. “I just don’t get it,” she reiterated.
“Everything you just said are all the reasons it tastes amazing,” you rebutted. “You just have bad taste,” you told her. Diana chuckled and replied.
“I’m married to you,” she stated. You nodded along with her.
“Exactly,” you said and took a sip of your coffee “terrible tastes,” you joked giving her a deadpan expression. Diana reciprocated looking at you with an emotionless expression.
“Hmm maybe I do have bad tastes,” She replied and leaned in so her face was inches from yours.
The two of you busted out laughing. Diana pushed a strand of hair behind her ear and her blue eyes gazed into yours.
“I like you,” she commented.
“I love you,” you shot back like it was a competition. Diana caressed your face and thought to herself.
“Hmmm well I love you more,” she argued. Instead of arguing otherwise you leaned up and planted your lips on hers. Engaging in a passionate and tender kiss. Diana pulled away but kept her forehead pressed against yours.
“Hard to argue with that,” she commented. “I can taste it on your lips,” she mumbled in disgust. You just smiled and the two of you sat drinking your coffee and enjoying the feeling of your bodys pressed against each other.
Half an hour passed and you’d both finished your drinks.
“All done my love?” Diana asked. You nodded and she took the empty cup from your hand. “Here I’ll take care of it for you,” She said and started to levitate off your lap. You missed the contact immediately. You grabbed her wrist before she could take off.
“What are you doing?” you asked,“I can take care of it!”
“Don’t worry my love, you worked hard today, you deserve some rest,” she replied.
“So did you! It’s really no trouble I can-” she put her finger on your lips shushing you.
“Just let me take care of you,” she said in a calm voice “I love you remember? If it makes you feel better next time we’re on watch duty you can make the coffee,” she offered. You smiled and responded.
“Deal.”
She leaned down and gave you a kiss on the forehead and flew away to dispose of the empty cups. As you watched her take off you began to wonder what's it like to fly? You didn’t have any special powers yourself. You’d been trained by Batman so you could still kick ass, but you did always wonder what it was like to have powers.
Diana returned and you decided to ask her.
“What’s it like?” you asked.
“What having a good taste in coffee?” she joked. You rolled your eyes.
“No smartass, what's it like to be able to fly?” You quipped.
“What do you mean?” she asked, giving you a confused stare.
“What does it feel like to fly? It just seems like such a cool and handy ability I’m just curious what it feels like,” you explained your question. Diana began to hover off the ground and thought to herself.
“It’s like freedom almost, like there are no bounds or rules and you can go anywhere you want at any time,” Diana explained, “like the air is at your command.” she added. You nodded.
“That’s cool,” you said, feeling a bit sad. That sounded really nice and it was something you wished you could feel. Diana gave you a worried stare.
“Are you ok my love?” Diana asked, hovering close to you.
“Yeah I just.” She put her hand on your cheek providing you with some comfort. You leaned into her touch and continued. “I just wish I could feel that, it sounds amazing,” you answered honestly. Diana stopped hovering and thought for a moment. She backed off and said.
“I have an idea,” she said, “gimme a second,” and she ran off.
“Where are you going!?” you shouted.
“Just hold on!” she yelled back and ran towards the elevator. What is she doing? You wondered and waited for her to return. A few minutes had passed and Diana hadn’t come back. I wonder what she’s doing. You raised your wrist to contact her on your comlink when you started to float. What!? You looked down and saw you had begun to float off the ground like you had become weightless. You pressed the button on your comlink and contacted Diana.
“Diana! What did you do!?” you asked. Then Diana came out from behind you and flew in front of you with a huge smile on her face.
“I turned the gravity off,” She answered, “I know it’s not exactly like flying but I figured it was the next best thing.” she explained. “Do you like it?” she asked, giving you an uncertain stare like she was worried you wouldn’t like it. Meanwhile your heart fluttered at her attempts to make you feel better for something that seemed so insignificant to you. You took her hands in yours and gave her a warm smile.
“I love it,” you said and kissed her. “Thank you,” Diana’s worried face turned into a happy one and she smiled at you and replied.
“Of course,” she said and gave you a kiss on your knuckle. She pushed you away. “Now, c'mon let's have some fun!” she said excitedly and started to hover away. You tried to follow after her, you flailed your arms around like you were swimming, but you didn’t move very far.
“So much for control of the air,” you commented. Diana came up next to you and threw you towards the ceiling sending you flying, but instead of falling back down like you normally would you stayed afloat. You looked down and could see your prior position far below you. You couldn’t believe it: you were flying. “Wow,” you said, taken aback by the feeling. Diana flew up next to you.
“Pretty amazing isn't it? She asked.
“Yeah this feels…” you tried to find the right words. “Awesome” you answered.
“You haven't felt nothing yet,” Diana stated, she put her arm around the small of your back and began to fly you around the Watchtower. There weren't many places to go so you ended up flying in circles but it still felt incredible. Like Diana said you felt free, sure she had to guide you but being off the ground had a different feeling entirely. You made a side glance at Diana and couldn’t help but smile at her. She noticed and offered you a smile in return.
She came to a stop abruptly and let go of your back causing you to go flying forward. She grabbed your wrists causing you to spin around and face her. Her beautiful eyes staring into yours, the lack of gravity caused her hair to float in the air behind her, each strand sticking up in a different direction making her look like a mad scientist. You giggled at your wife's ridiculous look.
“What?” she asked, her brow furrowed in confusion. You chuckled a bit more.
“You look ridiculous,” you said poking fun at her. “And beautiful,” you added. As funny as she looked, those eyes would always manage to take your breath away. Diana just smiled and she began to spin you around. She spun you for a few seconds and let go, sending you flying towards the floor. But thanks to the lack of gravity you didn’t hit it. You lay there floating parallel to the floor. Diana flew down to your position and hovered above you, her body parallel to yours.
“I know this wasn’t exactly flying. It was more like floating with style but… I hope you liked it” she said with a weak smile. You took her hands in yours.
“Are you kidding? I loved it! I had so much fun and I could feel everything you were talking about. The freedom, the lack of rules and the air being at my command. It was amazing,” you kissed her knuckles, “thank you so much,” you kissed her knuckle again. “I love you,” Her smile grew brighter.
“I love you too,” she replied and she leaned forward and kissed you. The kiss was intimate and sweet and her lips were soft and plush. You smiled as you felt her lips against yours and you thought about everything she’d done for you that evening. You couldn’t help but think, I have the greatest wife in the world. And for the rest of the evening the two of you enjoyed each other's company in a weightless environment.
