Work Text:

Grian adjusted his tie, shifting his weight back and forth from foot to foot. He was standing outside the restaurant that resided in the shopping area. He was nervous, he hadn't been on many dates before.

He took a deep breath before pulling open the door, stepping in and scanning the room. He should be here by now? He hummed softly, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet.

He jumped when he heard the door open behind him, stepping aside to let the person through, but stopping when he realized who it was. "Sam?"

Sam was dressed in what appeared to be his school uniform, minus the jacket. He looked up, blinking when he saw Grian standing there. "Am I late? I thought you were gonna meet me here at 3?"

Grian checked his watch, it was exactly 3 pm. He let out a quiet hum before speaking "Not technically late. I guess I was early…"

Sam smiled. "Let's go find a table."

-

The two were sharing a table, sitting across from each other. Grian was swinging his feet lightly under the table while looking at Sam, who was tapping out a soft rhythm with his fingers.

"They're taking a while, aren't they?" Grian attempted to strike up a conversation, but Sam just hummed softly in acknowledgement.

Grian frowned, but that was soon replaced with a look of excitement when he saw the waiter bringing them their food.

He sat up eagerly, but froze when he saw the plates. Pufferfish? They didn't order this. Grian was going to tell the waiter that their order was wrong, but he was already gone.

Grian frowned at the plate in front of him. He had never tried this before. He didn't want to.

"Sam?"

Grian noticed the look of distaste on Sam's face as he looked up. "Have you tried this before?"

Sam shook his head, pushing the food around with his fork. "It looks disgusting."

Grian chuckled. "It very much does."

"I don't want to eat this. It doesn't even look cooked properly." Sam poked at the meat on his plate. It looked slimey and raw. Gross.

"Do you wanna just go buy some candy from the shops? Go somewhere else?" Grian smiled when he saw the hopeful look that shined in Sam's eyes at Grian's words.

"Can we? Please." Grian nodded, and after paying the bill he grabbed Sam's hand, dragging the other out of the restaurant, ignoring how Sam's face was flushed a bright red.

Grian ended up dragging Sam to a candy shop, where they stood staring at the multitude of options.

Grian hummed -some song he heard on the radio- as he bounced lightly on his feet. He was still holding onto Sam's hand, but he didn't notice. Sam did, his face was hot.

"What're you gonna get, Sam?" Grian turned to look at Sam, pulling his hand away when he noticed how red his face was. He hurriedly shoved his hand in his pockets and stared at the floor.

Sam opened and shut his mouth, no words coming out for a moment, before gathering his ability to speak. "I think I'm going to get… hello panda." He smiled softly as Grian nodded, reaching for the pocky.

They paid for their treats then walked outside. Sam was opening his snack when Grian spoke. "What now?"

Sam hummed, fidgeting with the box for a moment. "Maybe the park?"

Grian lit up. "The park!" He grinned, reaching to grab Sam's hand again, but hesitated.

He looked at Sam. "Can I?" Sam's face grew red once again, but he nodded, reaching for Grian's hand.

Grian smiled as he took Sam's hand, and the two began walking towards the train station.

-

The two were sitting facing each other on the train. Sam leaned his head back and crossed his arms. He was about to fall asleep when he felt something kick his foot.

He blinked and looked down, but was confused. Grian was sitting there scrolling on his phone, looking completely unaware of his surroundings.

He furrowed his eyebrows but decided to ignore it, closing his eyes again. Until he felt another kick. He shot up and glared at Grian, who looked up at him with a look of mock surprise.

"What's wrong, Sam?" He grinned.

Sam continued to glare. "You know what's wrong. Stop kicking me."

Grian giggled. "I'm not kicking you."

"Last chance." Sam went to relax again, but immediately felt Grian kick him again.

He stood up and walked up to Grian, standing over him. "Stop."

Grian smiled. "Make me."

Sam scowled and leaned down so that he was so close Grian could feel Sam's breath on his face. "Shut up."

Grian's face was a bright red, but he grinned cheekily. "And if I don't?"

Sam leaned in, closing the small distance between the two of them. He kissed Grian for a few seconds before pulling away. "Then I'll make you." He sat back down, smirking as Grian sat there silently, his face hot.

Sam slept for the rest of the train ride.

-

Grian was quiet as they walked to the park, fidgeting with his hands nervously. Sam sighed and grabbed Grian's hand, rubbing his thumb along Grian's knuckle.

"You're fine." Sam spoke softly as they walked along.

"I didn't make you mad?" Grian frowned.

"No. I would tell you." Sam's face was blank. He was thinking.

Grian hummed softly. "Okay."

-

When they finally made it to the park Grian ran ahead, pulling his hand out of Sam's, despite the other's disappointment.

Sam was confused as he walked through the gate. "Are you okay?"

Grian was standing in front of the swing with a frown on his face. "There's only one."

Sam just stared. "And?"

"We can't swing together…" Sam rolled his eyes.

"Yes we can." He walked over and sat down on the swing then looked at Grian expectantly. When Grian didn't move Sam rolled his eyes. "On my lap."

Grian's face flushed but he walked over to Sam, carefully sitting on the other's lap.

Sam pushed his feet off the ground and began pumping his legs, the two of them swinging slowly.

Grian leaned back back onto Sam, smiling happily. He liked the motion of the swing. "I like you."

Sam simply hummed his acknowledgement as the two swung.
