Chapter Text
Sanji is peacefully preparing a snack for the ladies in his kitchen like always. The afternoon has just started, and the midday sun is bleeding through the window, casting itself onto Sanji making his hair look like a halo. He hums a simple tune and sways his hips as he gets out the bread for the delicious egg sandwiches he's going to make. It's a rather normal day on the Sunny, loud bangs and crashes accompanied by screams and booming laughs. It might sound weird, but Sanji finds comfort in all that. He likes knowing what to expect and likes the normalcy of it all; even though for most likely anyone else it's not normal. The corners of his lips quirk up at the thought, still humming. But it doesn't last for long, as Sanji is spreading mayonnaise onto fluffy slices of bread, he almost drops his butterknife in shock as the door is shoved open with a loud BANG! He sighs,
“These are not for Luffy.”
“Shishishi! But what if they were for Luffy?”
The boy's smile rivals the sun, it's too bad his annoyance levels are just as impressive. His sandals slapping against the hardwood floor as he makes his way over to Sanji’s side.
“But, that's not even what I came here for anyways, this time!”
Luffy playfully bumps into Sanji’s shoulder and he shakes his head fondly, muttering this time, under his breath. Already focused back in on his cooking.
“Really?”
Sanji half doesn’t believe his captain. But he decides to indulge anyway.
“Yup!”
Luffy somehow smiles even brighter. Silence stretches on for a few seconds, both expecting the other to fill it in. Sanji sighs, setting down the butter knife and bread.
“Okay, I’ll bite. Then what did you come in here for?”
“Because it's Girlfriends day!!”
“..And?”
He questions, one curled eyebrow quirked up.
“Sometimes Sanji can be pretty stupid,”
Luffy stares at the other like he just grew a second head.
“I came in here to tell you, happy girlfriends day Sanji!! Because you're my girlfriend! It would be pretty dumb of me not to say happy girlfriends day.”
“Oh.”
Sanji breathes, face flushing.
“Th- thanks, Lu.”
Luffy laughs joyfully at the blush adorning his girlfriend's face. Lifting his hands from his sides, Luffy gently cradles Sanji’s face in his calloused palms. Sanji looks down at the boy through his eyelashes, face still flushed a cute pink. Then, Luffy leans on his tip-toes and plants a sloppy (yet very filled with love) kiss on Sanji’s forehead where his bangs aren't covering. He melts into the touch, nearly going limp with how safe he feels.
They stay like that for a few moments, Luffy staring at his girlfriends face in pure adoration. And Sanji’s eyes fluttering closed in turn, breathing evening out so steady one might think he's asleep. But alas, duty always comes calling eventually.
“Sanji! It's been, like, forever! What's taking so long?”
Nami yells out, the duty quite literally calling. Sanji sighs, but it's small, not truly annoyed nor filled with regret.
“Almost done Nami-swan!!”
He calls back.
“It’s really only been ten minutes.”
He whispers to Luffy smirking, effectively making the other giggle.
“I HEARD that.”
Nami’s growing annoyance is painfully clear in her voice.
“My sincerest apologies, my darling!”
Sanji calls out once again, entirely meaning it. Although reluctantly, he lets Luffy’s hands fall away from his face and back to their owners sides.
“I should probably get back to that. But, really Lu, thank you.”
Sanji smiles, eyes sparkling and looking much more relaxed than before. Which, funnily enough, he didn't even know he needed to be held like that today until Luffy just.. already did. He was good at that. Somehow always knowing.
“Of course, Sanji! I’ll get going so you can focus. Love you!!”
Luffy beams, enjoying the slight blush on the others face. He won't admit it, but he's not quite used to people actually caring about him yet. Luffy turns away and starts to walk towards the door that leads back out onto the deck. Sanji watches him go, his own private, soft smile on his face.
“Love you t- HEY!!!”
While watching the other leave, he failed to notice the elongated arm stretching out and grabbing an unfinished egg sandwich. Not until it was too late, at least. A laugh gleefully booms out as the iconic snap of rubber rings out, bringing Luffy’s arm back to his side. He’s sprinting out of the door to avoid possibly getting hit, yet his laugh never yields and the mischievous glint in his eyes still shines.
Sanji just lets him go. Which may be out of character for him, but he thought it was fine just this once. After all, sometimes even his idiot captain deserves a treat.
But that doesn't stop Sanji from smiling softly and muttering half hearted profanities. Returning back to his work.
