    Summary

After the defeat of Krall at Yorktown and the completion of the construction of the USS Enterprise-A, Captain Kirk and his faithful bridge crew return to space to complete their exploratory mission. However, soon after their departure, Spock begins to suspect that his friend and Captain, Jim, might be suffering from an excess of unwarranted guilt and lonliness. He overhears, with his enhanced hearing, Jim listening to nostalgic and melancholy classical music from the late 1900s and early 2000s. Spock tries a few times to get the Captain to talk to him, and when Jim lies to him several times Spock loses his cool a bit and drama ensues. Will Jim and Spock be able to save their friendship? Or will their relationship be changed forever?

Heavily inspired by music, I’ve been listening to 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins on repeat recently after rediscovering how much I really love that song and something about it gave me the idea for this story (part of this story’s title comes from the song's lyrics). I’ll also mention several other songs that I have handpicked to go with this story, each chapter will be named after a song, but that song is really the backbone of the story.
