Work Text:
Rain is pounding against the windows, blurring the usually-spectacular view into a dreamy impression of a cityscape. In the distance, thunder rumbles; in Jason’s bedroom, Tim sighs.
“I should go,” he says, voice unconvincing and muffled against Jason’s chest.
“Into that? With your weak-ass immune system?” Jason scoffs. “You’ll have pneumonia before the next street.”
Tim decides not to point out how at-odds the derisive tone is with the gentle fingers still stroking through his hair.
“I’m not that badly off,” he says instead, still into Jason’s skin. “I can make it home.”
“Nah,” Jason says. His hand slips out of Tim’s hair to cup the back of his neck instead, squeezing gently. “No reason to risk it. Stay.”
Tim’s breath catches. “You sure?”
In all the months they’ve spent hooking up, neither one of them has ever spent the night. Back in December, Jason literally climbed out Tim’s window in the middle of a blizzard, eschewing not only Tim’s bed but Tim’s perfectly serviceable guestroom.
Spending the night is a relationship thing, and this is just sex.
“I’m sure.” He runs his hand down Tim’s back, slow and soft. “Wore ya out, didn’t I? S'only polite to let ya sleep it off.”
Tim is—they both are—always exhausted after their encounters. Tim’s current state is nothing new, nothing that’s ever kept Jason from kicking him out before. And a little rain wouldn’t do it either.
This feels like—this is—a gesture.
“Okay,” Tim says. He resettles himself more comfortably against Jason’s side, but makes sure to keep his face hidden, for fear the stupid, probably-sappy grin he can’t seem to wipe away will change Jason’s mind. “Thanks.”
“Whatever,” Jason says, but Tim’s known him long enough to tell the annoyance is feigned. “Go to sleep already.”
With the way giddy excitement keeps bubbling up in his chest, Tim expects sleep to be out of the question. But the steady beat of Jason’s heart against his ear, the warm sweep of Jason’s hand over his spine, and the drumming of the rain against the windows all combine to lull him into it in no time.
It’s the best he’s ever slept.
