Chapter Text
Almost every morning when he woke up with the lingering warmth of Bakugo’s arms around him, he felt like he was in a dream. His soft breaths still tickling at his skin. The quiet press of his weight around his waist. The way Bakugo holds him so completely would always make him feel like a wish had come true.
He especially loves the mornings where he’d wake up a little bit before him. Just to be able to catch the small things Bakugo would do in his sleep. Like smack his lips with the tiniest hums before letting out the loudest of snores, loud enough to drown out his laughs.
Or the way he sometimes wakes up to Bakugo’s nose pressed against his, his sleepy yawn fanning over his face before he’d blink and realize. The distance only changing by a centimeter, but his sleepy blush still enough to make Eijiro feel like he was sleeping amongst flower petals.
Lying with Bakugo has to be one of his favorite things. Just the quiet, the warmth, the care.
The only thing he really hated was waking up, especially when there was no Bakugo to hug awake after.
Though, today, he didn’t have to be sad for long as his door slammed open.
“Kirishima. Hurry the hell up and come get breakfast with me.” Bakugo was standing in his open door, leaning against the frame, arms crossed in front of his chest.
“Huh?” He said, his voice still raspy with sleep.
He took some time to just look at his best friend, standing with a frown against his doorframe. He’d probably never get over how handsome he is. How much he made his heart flutter from simply just being.
Bakugo had already gotten up to get ready, going by the clothes he was wearing. The way his hair was done up just a little.
“Get up and come get breakfast with me.”
“What time is it?”
Bakugo rolled his eyes, “Late enough for you to wake up.”
With a groan, Bakugo walked into his room, going to his drawer with clothes.
“What are you doing?”
“Getting you shit to wear.”
“Aw man, you don’t have to.”
Bakugo ignored him, rifling through his shirt drawer until he tossed one on his bed.
“Where are your pants?”
“Uh--second one?”
He finally got up from under his covers, pulling on the shirt he was given before he got up. He chuckled, of course it was the darkest shirt he owned.
“It's okay, man. You don’t have to look for my clothes.”
“Its fine. Just go get ready.”
Eijiro laughed, “Someone’s impatient today.”
“I’m hungry, that’s all.” A blush spilled on Bakugo’s cheeks, his hands pausing.
“I’m just teasing you.” He laughed, going up to ruffle his hair, making his cheeks color even further.
Eijiro held in a sigh. How could he not want to kiss his best friend right now? To hold him tight and kiss that nose that was painted with pink. To run his fingers through his hair and tell him how pretty he looked in the morning. With his eyes still heavy with sleep and his frown that much less scowl-y.
He watched as Bakugo took a pair of shorts out of his drawer, handing them to him quietly.
“Here, ‘Shima.” He whispered, placing the shorts in his hand.
Eijiro bit his lip, getting closer than was really needed as he took the shorts from him.
“Thanks Bakugo.” He grinned, deciding to give his best friend a hug.
Bakugo hugged him right back, wrapping his arms around his neck and sighing, the sound shaky.
“You okay?” He asked, rubbing his hands down his back.
“Tired.”
Eijiro hummed, “We can wait to eat breakfast if you want?”
Bakugo hugged him tighter, his head shaking, “No. I wanna get out of here.” Bakugo said this with a voice so nervous, he couldn’t help but be curious.
“Hmm? Why?”
“Just because.” Bakugo grunted, letting his chin fall on his shoulder.
“Okay, let me go get ready.” If things were perfect, he’d kiss his cheek, kiss that nose that was too cute for his own good. He’d take his face in his hands and kiss Bakugo until he couldn’t help but smile.
He gave Bakugo one final squeeze as he let go, going to the bathroom to change fully and brush his teeth.
He was about to do his hair, but it was early. And he knew Bakugo wouldn’t want to wait around for that. So, instead, he put his hair up into a low ponytail. He was impressed by how long it had gotten over the years of high school. His strands past his shoulders now. He had to find new ways to spike it, but he loved it all the same.
Especially because one time, Bakugo had mumbled that he liked his “dumb shitty hair” that way, telling him he shouldn’t cut it. So, he never did.
He’ll never get over the way Bakugo turned bright red the first time he saw him with his hair spiked up in his hero costume during their first day of third year.
He smiled as he walked out to his bedroom, seeing Bakugo laying on his bed and scrolling through his phone.
“Finally ready?” Bakugo said from behind his screen.
“Yeah!”
Bakugo jumped up, pocketing his phone while walking towards him. He let out a shout of surprise as Bakugo pulled him into another hug, squeezing him with a gentle force.
“You sure you’re okay?” He chuckled, hugging Bakugo right back.
Bakugo didn’t answer, instead, he felt his lips tickle at his skin.
“Missed you, that's all.”
“Aw yeah, I missed you too. We haven’t really been able to hang all week.”
He felt heat rise to his cheeks as Bakugo let go, grabbing on to his wrist as he led him out the door.
They walked that way from the elevators to the common room, Eijiro’s stomach flipping as he took the next step and intertwined their fingers together.
Bakugo let out a small laugh, walking closer as they finally left the dorms.
“Where are we going?” He asked, swinging their arms between them.
“You’ll see.”
They eventually came into town, Eijiro smiling as he realized where exactly they were going.
The first place they ever had breakfast together during their first year. Where Bakugo had sat him down and told him with teary eyes that he was his best friend. That he never really felt like he had one before, but he was glad that he was his first one.
Eijiro really had to stop himself from crying then, thinking of how he basically bothered Bakugo into friendship at first. Though, slowly but surely, he had watched Bakugo break down his barriers one by one.
He did let out a tear, however, when Bakugo led him back to his dorm, bringing him into a hug.
“Love you, alright?” He had whispered, his chin falling on his shoulder with force.
“Hey! I love you too.” He knew it wasn’t entirely platonic on his part, but he loved saying the words all the same. Feeling so sweet and light on his tongue.
Bakugo led them through the doors, bringing him to a table near the back. He ordered for them right away, his fingers tapping on the table as they waited.
“Kirishima. I want to talk to you about something.” Bakugo said after a while.
“Yeah, sure! What’s up?”
He smiled at the waiter as they placed a bowl of soup in front of him, a plate of fish and some rice next to it.
He took a sip right away, humming at the warmth of the broth.
Bakugo was taking a sip of his too, looking right at him with eyes full of determination.
Before he could even put some rice in his mouth, Bakugo grabbed his hand from across the table.
“Eijiro?” He asked.
His heart jumped with the sound of his name coming off his lips.
“Katsuki?” He said back, letting their fingers lace together.
“I--fuck. I like you Eijiro. So much. So damn much.” Katsuki practically whispered, forehead crinkled and his eyes burning into his.
“You don’t have to like me back or whatever. It's just--we’re moving in together after graduation, right?”
Eijiro nodded, his lips already trembling.
“I don’t--I don’t want to live with you in…I want to live with you, Eijiro. In every way. Not just as dumb roommates.
Eijiro's thoughts halted, and he was convinced he still hadn’t woken up yet today.
Katsuki groaned, “ I--shit. This is too much. I’m sorry.”
Eijiro sniffed, “Don’t be sorry.”
“Fuck. I made you cry. I’m so sorry.”
“No. No, It's okay!” He chuckled, wishing they were closer so he could bring him into a hug.
He let go of the chopsticks that were still weakly in his grasp, reaching over to grab Katsuki’s now shaking hand.
“I like you too, Katsuki. For like the longest time ever.” Tears were now falling down his cheeks, but he didn't care. He was so happy, so full of giddy joy that he couldn’t help but cry.
Katsuki got up suddenly, walking to his side of the table.
“Fucking hug me, Ei.” Katsuki said, holding out his arms.
He got up so quick, taking Katsuki in his arms, giving him a small kiss on his cheek.
He heard Katsuki sniff, then, a teary laugh rang out of him.
“We probably look like dumb, sappy dorks.”
“Yeah. But I don’t care.”
“Me either.”
Katsuki pulled back from their embrace, “Shit, I wanna kiss you so much right now.”
“When we get back to the dorms?”
“Yeah.” Katsuki smiled, letting go of him and sitting back down, “You better hurry up with your breakfast then.”
The walk back to the dorms was the longest ever. He couldn’t help but steal glances at blushy Katsuki, smiling at him when he thought he wasn’t looking.
“So I can call you Katsuki now?”
“Course you can.”
“Cool! You can call me Eijiro, too!”
“Just not in front of the idiots, okay? Don’t want them making a big deal.”
“I’m sure they won’t.” He chuckled, “But okay.”
And of course, as soon as they walked into the dorms, Kaminari ran up to them with a big grin.
“Hey, you two! You guys were out early!”
He tried to pull his hand away, but Katsuki held it tight.
“Yeah, I was hungry. So we went to go get breakfast.” He grinned.
“Aw, no invite?” Kaminari pouted.
“You probably weren’t even awake, moron.”
“I mean, no. But, you could’ve woken me up.”
Katsuki rolled his eyes, “Next time, then. You better wake up when I tell you.”
“Okay! Cool! Hey, maybe we can go out for lunch instead?”
Katsuki snorted, pulling him towards the elevators.
“Ah, I kinda just want to stay in the dorms the rest of the day.” Eijiro said, tossing Kaminari an apologetic smile.
“Okay, whatever, losers.” Kaminari rolled his eyes, walking away from them and flopping on the couch.
He let go of Katsuki’s hand, his face already seething from being called “loser”.
“Sorry, man. Maybe tomorrow?”
“Hey, hey. I get it. Priorities, man.” Kaminari said with a smirk.
“It’s not…it’s—“
“Kiri. I get it, I’m just messing with you. Go hang out with your boyfriend.”
He was sure his face was bright red, and luckily in that moment, the elevator dinged.
“Come on, Kirishima.” Katsuki said.
“I gotta go, Denks. See you later, yeah?”
“Yeah yeah lover boy.” Kaminari drawled, giving him a playful wink.
He made his way to the elevator with a smile, ruffling Kaminari’s hair before he left.
As soon as he stepped into the elevator, Katsuki scoffed, “Like the fucker is one to talk.”
“Whatcha mean?”
“You’ve obviously never trained with dumb Eyebags. Dumbass never talks about anything but Sparky.”
Eijiro smiled, “Are they dating and all that?”
He always found Katsuki’s friendship with Shinso a funny thing. He was really glad that Shinso transferred to their class. Katsuki needed someone that matched his energy the way he did. And, Denki was pretty much head over heels in love with him. It was cute to see.
“Not that I know of, but I wouldn’t be surprised.”
The question lingered on his tongue, and he so wanted to ask. But, they had just confessed their feelings not even an hour ago. He couldn’t move on this too fast. He couldn’t come on too strong. They hadn’t even kissed properly yet.
What if Katsuki says yes to being his boyfriend and then hates the way he kisses? And then he feels so sorry that he can’t break up with him and he feels stuck with him. He was sure that was the basis of their friendship before. Him feeling sorry for not having any other friends besides Denki at first and absolutely having to deal with being his friend.
Though, he quickly learned that Katsuki never did anything he didn’t want. He never forced himself into things. To him, time was valuable. And he liked to believe, hope, that he was valuable to Katsuki, too.
“What the hell are you so pouty for?” Katsuki poked the wrinkle on his forehead, getting so close, he instinctively wrapped his arms around him.
They stayed like that for a bit, Katsuki placing a small kiss on his cheek.
Eijiro sniffed, wanting to laugh at the way Katsuki was always able to see his emotions so clearly.
“Oh. Nothing, sorry.”
“Bullshit.”
Katsuki grabbed his hand as they walked out of the elevator and to his dorm.
“Come on, didn’t you promise me a kiss or some shit?”
His stomach churned as they walked into his dorm, and the reality of actually kissing Katsuki, the person he’s practically been in love with for all of high school, made him feel like there were snowflakes in his stomach. Swirling around his body and sending shivers down his skin. The tips of his fingers tingling. His arms full of goosebumps.
Katsuki led him to his bed, sitting with him as he held his hand so tight. He wondered if Katsuki was as nervous as he was, going by the way he kept squeezing his fingers.
They stayed in silence, Katsuki scooting closer until his cheek was pressed against his.
“Can I kiss you now?” He whispered, letting his fingers squeeze at the ends of his hair.
He felt Katsuki nod, but then shake his head.
“I wanna kiss you first.”
Eijiro grinned, “Aw come on, what if I wanted to kiss you first?”
“No way, I want to kiss you first.”
Eijiro closed the small gap between them, his smile tangling with Katsuki’s.
“Then kiss me first.” He said, “I can always kiss you second.”
Katsuki snorted, taking his face in his hands.
“We’ll both kiss each other first.”
They both met in the middle at the same time, their kiss sweet and soft. Katsuki rubbing his thumbs down his cheeks. Warmth running through his limbs, melting everything cold.
“Why the hell are you crying, idiot?” Katsuki asked, tears brimming in his own eyes.
“I like you so much, Katsuki.”
Katsuki laughed, so pretty.
If this was a dream, if he was still tangled up with Katsuki on his bed, he never wanted to wake up. Not when he got to kiss lips so sweet.
Katsuki’s lips trembled, his eyes sparkling with every color.
“Come here, Ei.” He sniffed, pulling him into a hug.
Yeah, he was definitely dreaming, considering everything he wanted had just come true.
Katsuki placed a kiss on his head, taking him out of the sleep he had fallen into. His best friend had taken him out kind of early after all, and the sleep hit him right away.
“Hey.” Katsuki said against his hair, giving him another kiss.
“Hmm?”
“Come camping with me next week.”
“Okay!” He beamed, kissing Katsuki right back.
Though, Katsuki didn't smile. Instead, he frowned. It shouldn’t be out of the ordinary, really. But the way he sighed, so heavy and…worried, it made him worry. Did he really think he was gonna say no?
No.
That wasn’t it at all.
“I’m not gonna be here tomorrow. Gonna go home for the day.”
“Okay. Everything okay?”
Katsuki moved to wrap his arms around his waist, getting on top of him to bury his face in his neck.
“I’m telling my parents.”
“About?”
“You fucking know, Eijiro.”
Surely not about them, right? They hadn’t even…
“I’m scared, Ei.”
“When are you ever scared?” He joked, starting to run his fingers through his hair. Katsuki melted into his touch, kissing the crook of his neck.
“This morning.”
“Aw, Katsuki. You didn’t have to be. I’ve liked you for so long.” He admitted.
“But what if you didn’t? What if--” Katsuki clicked his teeth, kissing him again.
“What are you scared of?” He asked.
“What if they don’t approve or whatever? I’ve never told them before.”
Eijiro was so stupid. Of course.
He came out to his mom right when he hit high school. And he was lucky enough to have a mom who loved him no matter what.
“Your parents love you, dude.” He didn’t want to say it would be fine, because he really didn’t know if it would be.
“I can go with you if you’d like?” He offered.
Katsuki shook his head, “I need to do this on my own.”
“Besides, you can get lunch with Dunce Face tomorrow.”
He smiled, “Yeah, I can.”
“But you call me if you need anything, okay?”
“Whatever.”
Katsuki came up from his neck to kiss him, “I like you so much, Eijiro.”
“I like you more.” He chuckled.
“Can I sleep here tonight?”
“Yeah! Of course, Kats.”
Eijiro gave him one more kiss before they drifted off, deciding to hold him as tight has he could.
He woke up with something stuck to his forehead, and he quickly realized it was a sticky note.
He took it off his face, smiling as he realized it was a note from Katsuki.
‘ See you later tonight. Made you something for breakfast. Don’t miss me too much. -Katsuki ’
It was well into the afternoon now, and he was kind of sad he didn’t get to kiss Katsuki goodbye.
He decided to text him good morning anyway, getting a text back right away.
EIJIRO: Morning handsome :)
KATSUKI: Good afternoon, moron.
EIJIRO: Miss you :((
KATSUKI: What the hell did I say about that?
EIJIRO: To miss you way too much :) <3
KATSUKI: Dummy
KATSUKI: haven’t said anything yet
KATSUKI: But I’ll call you later when I do.
EIJIRO: Okay <3
EIJIRO: Like you :))
KATSUKI: Dummy
He decided to text Denki, seeing if he was up for lunch. After he ate a late breakfast of course.
DENKI: Sorry man :(( made plans with Toshi :D
EIJIRO: Aw it’s okay lover boy :)
DENKI: we’re not dating…yet ;)
Eijiro sighed, guessing he could sleep a little more. After he eats his breakfast of course.
As soon as he was about to drift off for the afternoon, a call rang out. He picked up right away, knowing the only person it could be.
“Hey, what’s up Katsuki?”
“Eijiro.” Katsuki sniffed, making his heart sting.
“Hey, you okay? How did it go?”
“Eijiro.” Katsuki said again.
“Katsuki?”
“I can’t stop fucking crying. I don’t know what’s wrong.”
“Do you need me to go over there?”
“No. They’ll probably ask if you’re my boyfriend. You don’t want that bullshit.”
Katsuki sniffed, and he knew he was trying not to cry. His heart stung again, wishing he could be there to kiss his tears away.
“Are you okay?”
Katsuki didn’t answer, the silence making a lump fall in his throat.
“Please tell me.”
“They…they just hugged me and cried Ei. And they said they love me. I don’t think my mom has ever cried in front of me.”
Katsuki let out a quiet cry, and he'd give anything to be wrapped up with him right now.
“Dammit, Katsuki. I want to hug you so much.”
“Not kiss me?” Katsuki whispered.
“That too.”
Katsuki laughed, the sound a little watery, “I’ll be there to kiss you and crap soon, okay?”
“Okay.”
“See you later, Ei. I gotta go.”
“See you later.”
“I like you and all that.” Katsuki said in a voice so quiet.
“I like you more.” He whispered back.
