Work Text:

Shota Aizawa had brought Monoma to Eri, in hopes of being able to help her ‘master’ her quirk. When Monoma brought the news that he couldn’t copy her quirk-- well he couldn’t use it, everyone was disappointed, except the little girl.

He was intrigued by the small girl, and soon found himself growing closer to her.

Monoma thought Eri was much like his sister, in a weird way.
She was shy in the same way Eri was with new people, got excited about things like when Monoma showed off a new copied quirk and new coloring supplies.
But his sister was louder, His sister didn’t flinch at a hand ruffling her hair. His sister would talk back, and complain loudly if she wanted something or if she wasn’t getting enough attention.

Monoma hated comparing people, but he really wished Eri was more like his sister sometimes.

No, there was no use in wasting wishes on things he could make true.

“Eri!” Speak of the d-angel.

“Momo-sensei!”

Monoma sighed, but smiled to show Eri that he wasn’t actually sad.

“I told you, you can just call me Monoma. Or Neito, if you want.”

Eri nodded as if she was going to listen, and Monoma dropped the topic to exchange it for something she would actually be interested in.

“Say, I heard my sister found a perfectly good pack of cookie dough in my fridge…”

Eri’s eyes snapped up, obviously excited, and Monoma had to resist the urge to grab her and give her the biggest fucking hug ever. Small steps, Neito.

“And, well, my sister’s not very good at baking stuff. I still love her, of course!” He added at what looked like a worried glance from Eri.

“She is, after all, a small kid, just like you. So, I was wondering, would you like to come over with me and help her?”

“..I would like that..” she whispered, almost afraid of the words.

Monoma could see how eager she was, god she’s so precious.

“Of course if you don’t want to you I don’t plan on forcing you to come..”
Monoma held a slight sarcasm in his words. He wanted to make sure she hadn’t felt obliged, but teasing her while doing so was entertaining. He looked towards Eri who froze for a second before vigorously nodding her head ‘’yes’’.

“Ok ok you can come, but we should check in with Aizawa sensei to make sure it’s ok.”

Eri’s eyes sparkled. God damn it he would kidnap her one day.

“Come on.. I don’t want to take you home and then have sensei yell at us because we didn’t tell him.”

With that the two began to walk to the teachers lounge. Precisely where Aizawa Shota enjoyed small naps and cups of coffee. With a knock on the door they headed inside. Shaken awake by Eri, Aizawa silently cursed.

“Monoma? It’s a Friday.. Your classes were finished hours ago. What did you do?”

He had an accusing stare directed towards Monoma. He let Eri sit in the chair he was sleeping in as he got up.

“I didn’t do anything.. Quite the contrary. I wanted to know if I could take Eri to my place till tomorrow? She wants to meet my little sister, who’s around her age as well.”

Aizawa seemed hesitant.

“What makes you think I would say yes?”

“New experiences and.. Cookies?”

Aiwaza raised an eyebrow.

“Aizawa-Sensei, she’s a 6 year old. I know she’s been through a lot, and she deserves to heal from that, but she deserves to be normal as well. And that means making friends.”

Aizawa blinked, not expecting this amount of seriousness from Monoma, who, to all he knew, was a great student, but an asshole to class 1-A.

“She has friends here.” If possible, Monoma seems more annoyed by his response.

“Friends her age. Friends she can fucking…play dolls with and friends that don’t know what she’s been through. Friends who will treat her as a normal girl.”

Aizawa sighed, more for show, since they both knew what his answer would be.

“Fine. But- I’m dropping her there and picking her up in an hour. I’m also going to be in constant contact with you through your phone, and if you don’t respond to a call or text in 10 minutes, I will come pick her up.”

Monoma mulled over the terms for a bit, before accepting.

“Deal.”

Monoma looked over at Eri before giving her a small thumbs up, which she returned with a smile.

“What type of cookies do you wanna make? I have chocolate chips so we could make chocolate chip ones? Or a mix of sugar cookies and chocolate chip ones?”

“ Can we make both?”

“Of course! Maybe next time we could bring Shinso and have a sleepover too.”

Monoma looked up at Aizawa who simply looked away and let out an exaggerated sigh. Looking back at Eri, Monoma smiled.

“Eri, have you ever tried braiding your hair? With how long it is you could make beautiful hairstyles.”

“Monoma, what time do you want me to drop her off?”

“Around 6?”

Aizawa saw how Monoma seemed to be attached to Eri and couldn’t say no. He wanted her to have as normal of a childhood she could have now. So he had to let this hangout happen.

“Well Eri why don’t you go get ready later it’s almost 7 anyways? Monoma you’re heading home now I believe?”

That wasn’t a question and Monoma knew it.

“Yep..I’ll be going now.. See you later!”

Monoma knew the whole point of getting Eri to meet his sister was so that they could be normal friends, but he also knew how much of a rough-houser his sister was. So, he felt a few pointers on what to do, and what not to do were in check.

Once that was set, he told his sister to get the cookie doughs, and any other toppings or decorations she wanted. She pulled a face, but went to do what she said, and Monoma breathed out a sigh.

5:45. 15 minutes until Eri would be here. He wanted the playdate to go well. Needed it to go well, because of his love for Eri (and because Aizawa would probably kill him otherwise).

He went to check what had fallen-- or spilled-- or burned. He was met with a small pile of toppings. This consisted of chocolate chips, white chocolate, sprinkles, dark chocolate, skittles…and--skittles? His little sister lying on the ground with a mess of candy around her.

“ You know a guest is coming over soon? Get to cleaning.”

He points to the mess on the floor around his sister.

“Are you saying that because I’m a girl? Why don’t you do the cleaning?”

Monoma sighed knowing he wouldn’t get anywhere arguing. So instead he began to make a deal.

“Why don’t you clean up the floor so … hmmm I won’t punch you”

He had a sadistic grin. Did he mean it?? No…not entirely.

“WHy don’t YOU clean up the floor or are you gonna keep being sexist.”

“ I AM NOT.”

“ARE TOO”

The doorbell rang and was opened by Ms.Monoma. She kindly greeted Aizawa and Eri while inviting them in. Aizawa hadn’t entered, saying something about Hero work and being back in an hour. Eri wandered to the kitchen where arguing was definitely heard.

“MAKI I’M TELLING YOU I LOVE YOU JUST CLEAN YOUR MESS.”

“NEITO I’M TELLING YOU THAT I WON’T DO A THING.”

“ THAT’S NOT MY FAULT YOU MADE THE ME--”

Eri walked in front of Monoma and hugged him. Well as close to hugging him as she could get. She attached herself onto his legs. Monoma could die a happy man now. Eri hugged him.

“Oh you must be Eri-chan!”

Maki’s entire demeanor shifted. She was quite excited to meet her with how often Monoma brought her up. She wanted to talk to her about her favorite heroes and quirks and everything. She couldn’t wait!! Eri turned around to face her soon to be friend.

“Huh..oh yeah hi! It’s nice to meet you..”

“Monoma Maki! Please just call me Maki-chan”

The two began to talk, walking up to Maki’s room, talking about heroes and games. Maki was now teaching Eri how to play another card game.
“No no no you say go-fish not ‘’what-did-you-say-can-I-have-a-fish”

“GIRLS”

Monoma called interrupting their very important bonding time.

“Who wants to make some cookies?”

Maki jumps up, and following her example, Eri does too. She follows Maki into the kitchen, which looks a lot cleaner than before, and meets Monoma, who looks a lot messier than before.

“Now, Eri, I know I said we only had sugar and chocolate chips, but my sister’s a beast at finding junk food, so take a look at everything we have. Maki, yes you have to let Eri decide what cookies we’re making.”

Maki grumbles, but flashes a grin towards Eri and ushers her towards all the ingredients.

As Eri looks over them, Maki motions for her brother to crouch down so she can whisper in his ear. Monoma rolls his eyes, but complies.

“She’s a unicorn!” she whisper-shouts, and Monoma is reminded how much he loves both of these girls.

“Yeah. You know, if I copy her quirk, I can become a unicorn too.”

Maki pushes him back up, apparently done whispering, and yells back:

“No you can’t.”

Monoma looks offended, and crosses his arms, wondering if it would be worth it to ask Eri if he could copy her quirk again to prove a point to his younger sister.

Eri turns around, shyly holding the pretzels and chocolate chips.

“So I know you said to choose one but maybe we could split the dough half and half?”

Maki brightens and says:

“Or into thirds! Which means I can choose a topping too! Ha!”

Monoma shrugs, deciding it wouldn’t harm anyone.

“Yeah okay. Actually, we can just use every topping on one cookie if you girls want to.”

He doesn’t really mean this seriously, because there’s things like kale chips and cheese dip on the table, but both girls are immediately on board, and how the hell could he say no to two adorable little girls.

He tells them to bring anything that needs to be mixed into the dough to the counter, and lets them get to work, resigning himself to another bout of cleaning.

In the end they made 3 batches of cookies. Each had rows of cookies with different toppings.. Yes they did end up using the Kale chips and cheese dip. Monoma prayed there would be no explosions or anything of that sort when it came to that batch of cheese dip cookies. He took them out a bit early to make sure all went well.

“Well at least they’ll taste good?”

Monoma mumbled to himself as he let the cookies cool down. The girls went to Maki’s room to play. His mother needed the kitchen to prepare dinner so he cleaned up and left.

“Eri-chan what’s your quirk? I can control blood!”

Eri tilted her head a bit to show her confusion.

“What do you mean?”

She looked around her room before turning towards her notebook. She took a piece of paper and quickly moved her hand against it’s edge. A huge paper cut was now on her palm. She allowed some blood to leak out. Instead of it falling Maki was able to control it. It formed into shapes and even small little bubble letters. Eri laughed and Maki continued with the small tricks.

The door opened

“Maki you know you can’t just hurt yourself like that.”
Neito walked in as the girls turned to face him. He gave his sister a small little head pat as he sat down next to the two.

“Plus I handle your quirk way better than you do. “

“You wish, it’s MY QUIRK’’

“If I can prove it what will I get?”

“Nothing because you won’t be able to.”

Monoma smiled. He took the paper and gave himself a paper cut as well. He pulled out more blood than his sister had and began to play around with it. He created koi fish like shapes and had them ‘swim’ around the room.

“I can do so much more with your quirk, just admit it, I’m better.”

Maki looked at him before turning her head indicating she would do no such thing. Eri laughed.

“Momo sensei, are the cookies ready yet?”

“Hmm…oh yeah they cooled off, you can go try them.”

The two sprinted into the kitchen, almost making Neito fall over.

“Ugh HEY WAIT FOR ME!”

He sprinted out of the room as well.

Noticing the quirk still hadn’t worn off, Monoma decided to show off a little longer. He pulled a larger amount of blood out, wincing as he remembered he didn’t get the same regeneration as Maki. No matter. He dances it around the two girls, Eri watching in awe, Maki watching in disgust, before splitting it into thirds and sending each group to a tray.

He dances the trays around the girls as well, before quickly dropping them off on a table and bringing all the blood into a waiting tissue.

“That’s not impressive.” Maki huffs, and she goes to open her cut again, before Monoma stops her by showing his already bleeding hand.

Maki shrugs, but pulls it closer to her anyway, effectively closing Monoma’s cut in the process, and he nods, satisfied. He motions for Eri to sit down, and turns to watch Maki’s attempt to drag 3 plates over to the table. He’s a little worried, only because for all the confidence his sister has he knows she’s nervous about impressing new friends.

Regardless, the quirk still hasn’t worn off, and it’s still easier for him to control his own blood than it is for his sister to.

The plates are brought over, with not too much difficulty, and Monoma allows himself a glance at Eri. She seems completely amazed by his sister’s quirk, and Monoma’s glad. He really doubted Eri would be someone to discriminate based on quirks, but his sister’s still gotten a lot of shit. As much as he loved Eri and wanted her to feel comfortable with other people, his priority still lay with his own sister.

He watches Maki finally wander over, and listens to them talk about something meaningless as they pick and choose between the cookies. A few minutes into sorting the good cookies away from the bad cookies, his sister has the bright idea to cut the cookies into little parts and combine them together to make a bigger monstrosity of something Monoma had used to love.

There’s a small incident, where Eri cuts herself with the knife, but Maki’s quick to stop the bleeding with her quirk and take control of the knife instead. She gives Eri the job of pressing them together. Eri seems happy enough with this, and Monoma breathes a small sigh of relief.

The rest of the night passes without any concerns, and although Monoma gets stuck cleaning the kitchen by himself, he finds himself happier that Eri had felt comfortable enough to complain about cleaning than to actually care.

Aizawa comes to pick her up soon enough, and Eri runs at the door to meet him.

“Zawa-Sensei! I made a bunch of different flavored cookies! And we cut them into a bunch of tiny pieces and pressed them all together and ate those too! Or, well, Maki cut them into pieces since I hurt myself but-”

Monoma winces at the look Aizawa gives him.

“Are you hurt?” he turns to ask instead, and Eri vigorously shakes her head no.

“Maki-san healed it with her super awesome quirk! She also floated a bunch of plates around and Monoma floated the cookies and it was really cool!”

“Oh really? And what exactly would Maki’s quirk be?”

Monoma notices how his sister ducks behind him at this, and reminds himself that Aizawa was a teacher, and couldn’t discriminate against quirks.

Probably.

“Blood manipulation.” he answers him, throwing a protective arm around Maki.

Aizawa looks at Maki for a bit ignoring Neito’s glare.

“Is Maki ok? Her quirk doesn’t hurt her right?”

Monoma stopped his ineffective glaring to look at his sister.

“Hmm no her cells can heal much faster than an average person. She’s strong, right Maki?”

Maki nods smiling at comments her brother made about her. She had been picked on before, but she knew how to handle bullies. Aizawa had a ghost of a smile present.

“Well Monoma, you better start planning when the next playdate will be.”

At the mention of this Eri smiled.

“Monoma sensei said that next time we could have a sleepover with Shinso-chan! Can I go to the sleepover pleaseeeee”

Aizawa shook his head ‘yes’ before looking back at Monoma. Monoma met Aizawa's gaze with an “I told you so’’ look of his own .

“See sensei? Letting Eri have friends her age will definitely benefit her. The two trouble makers seem to be getting along don’t they?”
He ruffled Maki’s hair while saying so.

“BYEE ERI-CHAN!!! COME BACK SOON!”

The two went back inside.

“I like Eri-chan!”

“Me too Maki.. me too.
