burn, burn, burn.

Summary:

A set of sometimes connected short stories/drabbles, told from Reina’s perspective as a alternate approach to the otherwise Kumiko-driven narrative. (Reina/Kumiko centric, timeline jumps around)

Chapter 1: 1.

Chapter Text

It’s not like she was following her, or vice-versa. Everyone from their old school visited this river every now and then. It was a place of comfort, of peace, for her. Reina sat dangerously close to the water, the tiny waves nibbling at her shoes. Her bag was somewhere close, on a creaky wooden bench she had spent one too many afternoons on. She liked to come here; she liked the quiet, the ambience.

So. She wasn’t following her. They just happened to be in the same place, at the same time.

Reina locked eyes with her, and felt her cheeks flare up (just a bit). She paid it no mind and rose, dusting herself off and fixing her hair. Like she was on a date or something. What a riot.

Kumiko shot her a soft smile from across the river, and she returned it. Reina wanted to walk over and talk to her, maybe find out why she had come down to the river. If she was willing to share.

Reina opened her mouth and her throat rumbled with words, but that was as far as she could get.

“Hey,” called a voice, and soon Tsukamoto wandered down the hill, catching up to her. Kumiko turned away from Reina.
