Strong hands scooped her from the snow, bundling her into a warm cloak that smelled faintly of sugary sweet caramel and soft flowers.
Mizuki couldn’t open her eyes. Not when her fingertips stung, and her body felt immeasurably heavy. Instead she sagged weakly into her rescuer’s hold, and they let out a relieved breath.
She was alive.
That was the only sign they needed, before they began their march through the sleet, Mizuki bundled in their arms.

Ena shook her head, before gripping onto the edge of her phone case. The beaded charms on it rattled as she mulled over her choices. Or rather, her only choices. Her parents weren’t home, with her dad having a meeting with a local curator, and her mom at a baking class with friends.
Akito was probably with his group, and MMJ had a stream planned for the afternoon, so that left… She couldn’t even finish the thought without feeling a familiar trickle of heat dancing along her face.
But if anything, she knew Ena’s secret, and that’d make it easier for the artist to bite the bullet.
