TK Strand didn’t think it was possible to love Carlos Reyes more than he already did. Carlos was his lifeline, his soulmate, his best friend, and the one person who he couldn’t live without.
TK Strand was impossibly and irreversibly in love with Carlos Reyes and he never believed that the love he held in his heart and soul could get any stronger.
That was until he watched Carlos Reyes become a dad.
TK and Carlos had been married for almost four years when they decided they wanted to become parents. They had discussed it before, at the beginning of their relationship, but that conversation never went any further.
Through volcanic eruptions, shootings, comas and hostage situations, they never really had the time to think about adding a child into their lives.
However, Jonah had been visiting with Enzo for a few days and TK watched on as his husband sat crossed legged on the floor opposite the little boy and paid attention to every single word Jonah spoke as they discussed Spiderman intently. TK knew that Carlos was a good man, a wonderful, kind and loving man, but seeing him giving his little brother every second of his attention made his heart do a little flip.
And that’s when it hit him.
He wanted that. He wanted to watch Carlos with children, their children. He wanted to start a family with the man who made those dreams possible and achievable. He wanted to love and raise a child with Carlos, he wanted to take the love he had for his husband and multiply it by a thousand. He wanted that life more than anything.
TK had never really thought about having children before Carlos. He didn’t think he had it in him to be a good father. He was impulsive, a risk taker, and his entire world revolved around his job. He just didn’t think that was the kind of world to bring a child into. And, yet, Carlos changed his way of thinking. He changed everything. He opened up his eyes and his mind to the beautiful possibility of raising a child. Together.
When TK finally approached the subject on a cold rainy morning in mid November, Carlos pulled off his glasses that he had resting on the bridge of his nose and pulled his husband into his arms with a quiet ’’Yes, TK. i would love nothing more than to have a child with you.’’
And that’s how, just under a year later, Luna Strand-Reyes came into the world.
When TK watched Carlos take their daughter into his arms for the first time, their tiny but beyond beautiful daughter, he felt his heart crack open and explode in a way it never had before. This feeling was new, and overwhelming, but it was also magical and intoxicating.
His husband, the love of his life, was holding a part of them both. A little girl whom they both loved unconditionally, a little girl who they would raise and love and make memories with for the rest of their lives. A little girl who was just a few minutes old and yet had changed their entire world for the better.
TK sat down beside Carlos as he held their six minute old daughter and placed his finger inside of her tiny hand. When she gripped the paramedics finger gently, TK couldn’t help but let a tear full of happiness fall from his eyes.
’’You’re such a sap.’’ Carlos had commented jokingly with both a tease and a voice full of joy. It was clear he was feeling the same emotions as his husband that were creeping into his body and up into his throat.
’’How can I not be a complete and utter sap right at this moment? You’re literally holding a tiny child who is almost identical to you, a child who has the exact same nose and eyes as my soulmate. I have the right to be sappy when you’re holding our entire future in your arms.’’
’’I love you, TK.’’ Carlos spoke softly as he ran his thumb gently over the other man’s cheek, his thumb mapping out the love and adoration he had for his husband and the promise that that love and adoration would never end.
’’I love you so fucking much, Carlos.’’
