3 Times Peter Tried To Hide His Relationship From Tony, And 1 Time He Didn't

Summary:

Just Peter sneaking around with MJ so he doesn't get caught by Tony (and failing miserably) because he knows he would make a big deal about it.
(Mild smut included, but nothing extreme. Just kissing and undressing)

Work Text:

1

Friday's were lab days. Happy would drive Peter to the tower after school and the boy would spend time with Tony in the lab. Sometimes, he would stay overnight and hang out with everyone on Saturday too. This was well known by, pretty much, all of the Avengers. Peter and Tony were very vocal about it, considering how much they loved spending time with each other, especially when it was doing something they both loved.

Peter has never missed a lab day. So when he messaged Tony saying he had to reschedule, the man immediately knew something was up. He re-read the message over and over again, trying to find any hidden messages. Had the kid been kidnapped? Was this his kidnappers messaging him? Was he trying to hint that something was wrong?

'Hey Mr. Stark. I'm really sorry but I'll have to skip lab day today :( I'll make it up to you tho, I promise!'

Tony frowned. He honestly couldn't see anything behind the message. Maybe Peter was busy? Maybe something came up? As much as he wanted to press further, he decided to let Peter keep his privacy.

'That's alright, kid. You can come over tomorrow if you're not still busy by then?'

'That would be great! Thanks Mr. Stark!'

Peter hated having to cancel on Tony. He loved lab days, they were pretty much all he looked forward to. But this was his only chance to hang out with MJ for months. Spring break was coming up and she was going on vacation with her dad then and she was busy all week with her studies (and so was Peter, really). Friday was the only day that she could do, and Peter didn't want to miss his chance.

He really liked her. It wasn't going to be a date, much to his displeasure. They were just hanging out as friends, but it was the first time they were hanging out alone. They usually had Ned with them too, but he was visiting family.

So here he was, walking to the park at 5pm to meet up with MJ. He knew it wasn't a date, but he still felt incredibly nervous. He wanted nothing more than to confess his feelings to her, but he was so afraid she would reject him. Then it would ruin their whole friendship, and that was the last thing he wanted. So for now, they would remain just friends.

He found a bench under a beautiful blossom tree and sat down. The park was pretty much empty since it was on the outskirts of the city. All that it contained was fields, lakes and trees. It was the perfect place to hang out with MJ. A breathtaking setting and a breathtaking girl-

Peter shook those thoughts away. He needed to stop thinking about MJ like that if he wanted to stay friends.

As if he summoned her with his thoughts, MJ appeared on his right, walking towards him with a smile on her face. Peter returned the smile and stood up to greet her.

"Hey, loser. How do you know about this place? It's...beautiful." She said once she reached him, looking around at her surroundings.

"I don't think I should bore you with that particular sob story. So to sum it up, I liked to wander around a lot after my Uncle died." The boy explained as they started walking along the river. She gave him a comforting smile, but didn't press the issue. Peter watched as the blossoms from the tree drifted down and landed on MJ's hair. They stood out beautifully with her complexion-

Stop it, Parker!

Tony knew he had trust issues, but he couldn't really care less in that moment. He just needed to know what Peter was doing at all times. He knew that was an unhealthy thought and that Peter deserved his own life and his own privacy, but Tony was worried. Just this once. Just this once, he would do this.

He got his phone and called May. It only took her a few seconds to pick up.

"Hi, Tony. Is everything okay?" The woman asked when she picked up. Tony coughed and shifted in his seat awkwardly. He knew how insane he was being.

"Yeah, uh...yeah, everything's great. I was just calling to ask how Peter is? He said he couldn't make it to today's lab session." Tony explained. He heard May let out a chuckle.

"You don't have to worry, Tony. He's fine. He told me he had a last minute decathlon practice after school today." She replied. Tony heard rustling, he must've caught her at a bad time. Man, he felt incredibly possessive right now.

"Oh, okay. Yeah that's fine. I was just checking...y'know. I wasn't worried or anything...I'm just...bored?" He said with a wince. He was being so obvious.

"Yeah, definitely." May laughed again, and then it sounded like she was adjusting her phone. "Alright, I've gotta go. Stop worrying about Peter and get on with the things you actually have to do, Mr. Procrastinator." Before Tony could argue or defend himself, May hung up. He sighed and put his phone down, rubbing a hand down his face.

Why did he do that? There was something seriously wrong with him. He just needed to trust Peter.

That's when realization hit him. He recalled back to his phone conversation with Peter a few days ago. The kid had said that he wouldn't have a decathlon practice for weeks because half the team wasn't available. He had said that Ned was away, visiting family or something like that, MJ was going on vacation, Mr. Harrington was covering another club and some kid called Abraham was sick.

Tony furrowed his eyebrows. Had the kid...lied? That wasn't like him. Something was going on.

"FRIDAY, dear, activate Lost Puppy Protocol." Tony called out to his AI. He only made the protocol for emergencies, and he knew it was totally out of order, but he needed to put his mind at ease.

"Protocol activated, sir." The AI responded after a few seconds, Tony pulled up a hologram and looked at the stats that came with the protocol. It told him Peter's heart rate, his blood pressure and his location, which was definitely was not Midtown. He was able to with something he installed in the kid's watch a few weeks back. He knew that it was incredibly invasive, but he just wanted the kid to be safe. Other than his location, everything looked fine. Tony let out a deep breath of relief at that fact, but there was still some digging to do.

"FRI, where's Peter right now?" The hologram didn't give specific locations, just addresses.

"Peter is at Heath Park. It is on the outskirts of the city." FRIDAY replied.

"Huh...okay, uh...what's he doing?" He asked.

"He is with a girl."

Oh.

Oh.

Tony's mouth curled into a smirk.

"Oh, is he, now?" The man asked rhetorically with a laugh. "I have to admit, I'm a little hurt that he blew me off to hang out with some girl. But I'm also a little proud." He said to his AI. "Do we know who the girl is?" He asked.

"You have not installed facial recognition to the Lost Puppy Protocol yet, sir."

"Dammit...okay well, I'll let him off for now. But tell me when he gets home." He said with another smirk.

"Of course, sir."

Peter glanced at his watch to see what the time was. 7:30pm. He couldn't believe he had been talking to MJ for 2 hours and 30 minutes. Time really flew by when he was with her. He was about to look back up at the girl when he saw a small, blinking red light on his watch that he hadn't noticed before. Had that been there before? Peter shrugged it off. He assumed it was just some fancy tech thing, considering Tony built the watch for him.

"I should head home. May probably wants me home for food about now." Peter said to MJ as he finally looked back up at her. He got butterflies in his stomach every time he did.

"Okay, that's fine. I should probably go too. My dad said to get home before it gets dark." She said and they both started walking out the park. Peter wished he didn't have to leave. He wanted to spend another few hours talking to the girl. He wanted to go home with her and just stay up all night laughing.

He wanted to stop his thoughts, to tell himself that they were friends and nothing more. That was the way it was supposed to be. But he couldn't, he liked MJ too much. They reached the blossom tree that they met at. This was the perfect time.

"U-Uh...MJ, wait." Peter said, grabbing her arm lightly to stop her from walking. She looked at him in curiosity, her eyes glistening. The blossoms were falling behind her, the sunset was a beautiful mix between red, pink and orange and she was just stood there, staring at Peter with a small smile on her face. All she was doing was standing there, yet she made it look like the most beautiful thing in the world. The image was perfect, he just wanted to take a picture. It made Peter nervous all over again, he felt his hands shaking.

"Um...there's something I...wanna ask you." He begun and looked at his feet for a split second in anxiousness. He obviously stayed silent longer than he thought he did because MJ spoke.

"Spit it out, spiderboy." She said, with no real heat. Peter smiled and cleared his throat.

"I was wondering if...maybe...you wanted to go on a- on a date sometime soon?" He could feel his face heat up and he just knew he looked as red as a tomato.

MJ looked surprised by the question. Peter gulped. Oh God, this was a mistake. Why did I ask that? Ohgodohgodohgodohgod.

"I...I would really like that, actually." She responded and looked at the ground too. She had the same anxious tick as Peter.

The boy let out a huge sigh of relief. "Really?"

"Yeah, of course!" MJ said, sounding more confident. The shaking in Peter's hands came to a slow halt, though his heart was beating so fast that he thought it would shoot out of his chest. "I'm not gonna be here for a while. though. So it will have to be, like, next month." MJ explained with a nervous chuckle, which Peter returned.

"That's fine...yeah, that's totally fine." Peter rambled as they began walking out of the park again. "That just gives us more time to plan." He said after a few beats of silence.

MJ smiled to herself at the thought, and Peter did too.

Peter's smile widened. He couldn't wait to tell Ned about this. How did he ever get this lucky? How was this his life?

When Peter walked through his door 30 minutes later, he still had an idiotic smile on his face. May noticed it immediately from where she was sitting on the couch.

"I take it you had fun with MJ, then?" She said, copying his smile. He looked up, his cheeks turning red and his smile growing impossibly bigger.

"Yeah..." He said and trailed off. He wandered around the room, not really having any specific destinations. He didn't drop his smile once.

"Wow, that great, huh? I thought you said it wasn't a date?" May asked as she paused the tv. Peter finally sat down next to her.

"It wasn't...but there's going to be one." He said. He had never felt this happy before. He never knew what it meant when those actors talk about 'cloud 9' in movies, but he was fairly certain he was on it. May immediately widened her smile and hugged her nephew.

"That's amazing, Peter! Oh, I'm so happy for you!" She exclaimed and then pulled away before ruffling his hair. "My little boy is growing up!" Peter was about to say something when his phone began ringing. He pulled it out and furrowed his eyebrows.

"Mr. Stark's calling me." He said in confusion. Not that he was disappointed, he actually loved it when the man called him, considering it was always Peter doing the calls. He just didn't know why. May's eyes widened.

"Oh, right. You might wanna get that. He called me a few hours ago asking about you. I lied for you, by the way. You're welcome." She said, adjusting in her seat.

"Thank you...what did you tell him?" Peter stood up, ready to answer the call.

"I told him you were at a last minute Decathlon practice." She said, picking up the remote. Peter's eyes widened.

"What? No! I already told him that I wasn't going to have one for weeks!" He exclaimed, his smile dropping for the first time in hours. May's mouth fell agape before she closed it again and winced.

"Sorry, honey. Good luck with that one." She said, unpausing the tv. Peter groaned and scurried off to his room before it was too late to answer the call. He shut his bedroom door and pressed accept, readying himself for the conversation he was about to have.

"H-Hey, Mr. Stark. Everything okay?" He asked, trying to seem nonchalant but failing miserably.

"All good here, Pete. Just wanted to check in. You never actually told me why you couldn't make it today." He said. There was something in his voice...something that made Peter fear that he knew the real reason why Peter wasn't there. But how could he? Peter was in a sticky situation. He had no other choice but to go along with May's lie.

"I was at Decathlon practice, actually...yeah." He said and held his breath, hoping the man forgot about their conversation from a few days ago.

"Hm...I thought you didn't have any practices for a few weeks?" Tony questioned. Great.

"Yeah...uh, about that." Peter let out a nervous laugh. "So, uh, we-we got another teacher to cover for Mr. Harrington. And uh...this was MJ's last free day so she was able to make it, and uh...well...Abraham...got better?" Peter rambled. He almost laughed at himself for that horrendous lie.

"Peter..." The man's voice spoke after a few seconds of silence. "I hope you're not lying to me. That would really hurt my feelings, you know?" Peter knew Tony was only messing around, but it still made Peter feel bad. He just couldn't help it.

"Okay, fine! I wasn't at Decathlon Practice. I'm sorry I lied...and I'm sorry I got May to lie too." The boy said, rubbing a hand down his face.

"Mhm...so where were you really?" The man asked. He was using that tone in his voice that made Peter want to tell him everything. What Peter didn't know, was that Tony already knew everything and he was wearing a huge smirk.

"I was with MJ..." Peter mumbled, dragging his foot back and forth against the carpeted floor.

"What was that?" Tony teased. Peter knew he heard him, but he played along anyway.

"I was with MJ!" He said louder. That's when Tony started laughing.

"So...is she your girlfriend?" He asked, making Peter blush.

"No! We were just hanging out as friends." He said, which wasn't a total lie.

"Hm, then why did you lie to me about it?" The smile was evident in the man's voice by now.

Damn, he's good.

"I- Because...cuz I know you would get all...I dunno! Like you are right now! I swear, we're just friends."

"Keep telling yourself that, kid. I'll see you tomorrow. Happy will pick you up at 1pm." Tony declared before hanging up. Peter just stared at his phone before sighing.

Great.

2

Peter paced in his room at the compound. Sneaking out to go on a date with MJ was going to be extremely harder since he was under Tony's care for the week. He cursed May for ditching him to go on a business trip.

His plan was to ask Tony if he could hang out with Ned at his house for a little bit, but then go and meet up with MJ instead. That way, Tony wouldn't question his bag, which definitely did not contain flowers for his crush, and date clothes for himself.

He stopped pacing and finally walked out his bedroom, bag in hand. He took a deep breath and walked to the living room, where he suspected Tony was. He rounded the corner and saw the man sat on the couch. The tv was on but his attention was on the StarkPad in his hands. That's when Peter noticed Natasha and Clint sat on the other couch. The boy gulped. How was he supposed to lie to Tony when Natasha was in the room?! The woman's like a human lie detector!

"Hey kid, you okay?" Tony's voice made Peter jump slightly, but he composed himself. "What's with the bag?"

"Um..." Peter looked over at Nat and Clint again, who were both looking at him with smiles on their faces. It made him uneasy, but he sucked it up and turned his attention back to Tony. "Can I go stay at Ned's for the night?"

Wait...that wasn't what I was supposed to ask.

Peter cursed to himself. Now he had to find a place where he could stay overnight. Maybe he would message Ned after his date and ask him if it wasn't too much trouble.

"Hm...have you done your school work?" Tony asked, raising an eyebrow while Clint snorted.

"Dude, you are such a Dad." He laughed.

"Hey, education is important! Besides, I have to ask otherwise his Aunt will have my head on a stick." Tony defended himself.

"Yes, I've done it all." Peter said before they started arguing. Tony took a while to answer, but finally he did.

"Fine, you can go. Do you need me to ask Happy to drop you off?" He gave in. Peter's eyes widened and he immediately shook his head. Maybe a bit too vigorously.

"No, no! There's no need...I can swing." He said, trying to calm himself down so they wouldn't suspect anything. He could sense Nat eyeing him down. Tony also looked skeptical, but let it go.

"Alright, off you go, then. Keep your phone on, and Happy will pick you up at 12pm tomorrow!" He said. Peter let out a silent breath of relief and smiled.

"Thanks Mr. Stark. Bye guys!" He called out and dashed down the corridor.

Once he was no longer on their floor, Nat spoke up.

"Yeah, he was lying." She said with a smirk. Tony placed his StarkPad on the coffee table and turned to Nat.

"I should be surprised, but I'm not." Tony sighed. "Go on then, Miss Observant. What's your verdict?"

"Well...he was blushing so much he started looking like a tomato." She stated first. "And his bag looked quite empty for someone who's staying overnight at a friend's house. And let's not forget, he freaked out when you suggested that Happy drove him." She finished with a shrug.

"Yep, I noticed that too." Clint said as threw a grape in his mouth and pointed with his other hand. Tony nodded along, resting his chin on his hand.

"That little shit is gonna be the death of me." Tony groaned as he picked his StarkPad up. "I'll wait like, half an hour and then I'll track him."

Peter was shifting around in his seat. He was slightly nervous, but who wouldn't be? He tried to focus on the movie, but MJ was just so close to him...

"Do you want some popcorn?" Her angelic voice pulled Peter out of his haze and he blinked.

"Oh- Uh, yeah. Sure." He whispered back as he took the popcorn bag. As Peter reached inside it, his watch caught his eye. That blinking red light was back...weird. He set the popcorn aside and relaxed in his seat. The date was going well, he had nothing to worry about. He glanced down and noticed MJ's hand resting on the arm of her seat. Peter gulped.

Should I go for it? No...yes...no...yes....no!

Fuck it.

Peter shifted his hand closer to MJ's until they brushed against each other. MJ inhaled, and Peter didn't breathe for a good few seconds. That was until MJ responded by turning her hand around so they could lock their fingers together. A smile spread on both their faces. Peter felt like his heart was going to explode out of his chest.

The movie was over 50 minutes later. They both enjoyed it, but they enjoyed each other's company more. They stood outside the movie theatre for a few seconds to talk. Peter had to message Ned, anyways.

He stared at MJ as she was laughing. She just looked so...perfect, and so was the moment. So Peter took advantage of it. He took hold of MJ's hand again, pulled her in, and just kissed her. And in that moment, it was like fireworks were exploding over their heads. He could feel her smiling into the kiss.

They pulled away a few seconds later, both smiling like idiots. "So...does that mean this is official now?" MJ asked, gesturing between the two.

"I...I'd like it to be." Peter said nervously.

"I think I'd like it too." MJ responded, calming Peter's nerves. He had never been more happy. Peter Parker had a girlfriend! They talked for a few more minutes until they had to part ways, but promised to text each other.

Peter got out his phone to message Ned, when he heard someone cough in front of him. He jumped and looked up, only to come face to face with Tony. Peter's eyes immediately widened and he instantly went red in the face, whereas Tony was just smirking at the panicking boy in front of him.

"Mr. Stark...I- Uh- I was just...she was just." He stuttered, not entirely sure what he was trying to say. "W-What are you doing here?" Was the question he went for, which earnt a scoff from Tony.

"I should be asking you that, kid. Although, I think I already know the answer. Geez, Ned looks different, doesn't he?" He mocked as he walked closer to Peter. "That was MJ, wasn't it? It's weird, I distinctly remember you saying you were just friends." He said as he wrapped an arm around the kid and lead him towards the car.

"You're the worst." Peter whined as Tony laughed.

There wasn't really any way to sugarcoat it. Peter and MJ were both...horny teenagers. And who could blame them? They had already had sex before. Once at Peter's apartment and twice at MJ's. So long story short, they knew what they were doing. They were on a walk when MJ gave him 'the look'. Peter chuckled and pulled her closer.

"We can't, May is home." He said and MJ sighed.

"Well, we can't go to mine either. My dad is home." She said. There was silence for a few seconds, the only sound to be heard was their footsteps and the cars in the distance. That was until MJ spoke up again. "I don't suppose we can go to the compound?" She said and laughed. She meant it as a joke, but it got Peter thinking.

No one would be on the floor his room is on, as far as he knows. If Tony's there, he would just be locked up in the lab. His room was soundproof. Tony won't be expecting Peter, so he wouldn't look for him.

"Y'know what? Let's do it." Peter said with a grin. MJ whipped her head around to Peter in shock, her mouth agape.

"Peter, I was joking!" She said as she let out a surprised laugh.

"I'm not!" He responded. "Come on, let's do it! My room is soundproof, and Mr. Stark won't know we're there so he would have no reason to walk in!"

"It's just...I know I've already met him once but I still wouldn't make a very good impression on him if he does walk in! Besides, I don't know if I feel comfortable having sex in the Tony Stark's house. Especially when he's in the building..."

"I'm not gonna make you do anything you don't want to, MJ. But you can trust me, nothing will happen!" Peter said. MJ thought about it for a moment, and then a smile spread on her face.

"Okay, let's do it!"

*

They got to the compound 20 minutes later, and crawled into Peter's bedroom window. They made sure to be extra quiet as they landed on his carpeted floor and shut the window behind them. They stayed still for a few seconds just to make sure that no one was walking on their floor, which no one was, and then giggled at their success. Peter turned to MJ, wrapped an arm around her waste and kissed her. MJ placed her hands in Peter's hair and ran her fingers through it as they deepened the kiss.

*

"Sir, Mr. Parker has arrived at the compound." FRIDAY's voice echoed through Tony's lab. The man looked up at the ceiling in confusion. He didn't think Peter was supposed to be coming over today?

"Really? Are you sure?" Tony asked as he turned to his project again.

"Mr. Parker is in his bedroom. His heart rate seems to be rapidly increasing." Tony whipped his head up, accidently dropping his screwdriver in the process.

"Is he okay?" Tony asked the AI, even though he was getting up to see for himself. He rushed out of his lab and into the elevator, pressing the button to Peter's floor. It wasn't long until he was walking through the corridor and approaching the boy's door. He tried to listen to see if he could hear anything going on in there, but soon remembered that it was soundproof so knocked instead.

Inside the room, Peter and MJ flinched and pulled away from each other, staring at the shut door. Both of their hearts were racing, but not from excitement this time. They quickly snapped out of their haze. Peter grabbed MJ's jeans and gave them to her before quickly getting his own.

"You said he wouldn't know we were here!" MJ hissed as she put her jeans on.

"He shouldn't! I don't know why someone's knocking! It might not even be Mr. Stark!" Peter said as he zipped up his own jeans.

"Oh, great! So there could possibly be some other freaking Avenger waltzing in here any second now, while I'm half naked?!" She exclaimed as she frantically looked for her shirt. Peter saw it and picked it up for her just as the door swung open. Tony walked in and Peter acted on impulse, pushing MJ to the floor next to his bed so she was hidden. Half because he didn't want Tony to know what he had been doing and half because she didn't have a shirt on. She made a small squeal as she hit the floor with a thud, making Peter wince and whisper a 'sorry'.

Tony stopped walking and just stared at a very topless Peter...holding a woman's shirt. He had already saw MJ in there with him just before she hit the floor, so the whole 'lying' thing was pointless. He smirked and leant against the doorframe, folding his arms.

"Whatcha doing?" He asked, not even bothering to hide his smile. Peter sighed in defeat, knowing he had been caught and chucked MJ's shirt at her. She managed to slide it on while still laying on the floor. Peter didn't say anything, he just stared at Tony with a red face. The man knew he wasn't going to say anything, so he continued.

"Hey, Michelle. Nice to see you again." He called out to her. Peter squeezed his eyes shut in embarrassment. MJ knew there was no point in hiding anymore, so she jumped up from her spot on the floor with a smile on her face as if nothing was wrong.

"H-Hey, Mr. Stark...sir." She stuttered and then turned to Peter for help.

"We were just-" Peter tried to lie before he got cut off.

"Oh, I know what you were just doing." He chuckled. "Honestly, Peter. I give you a bedroom and this is what you use it for?" He teased.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Stark! I- We-" Peter rambled, not knowing what he was trying to say.

"I hope you have condoms." He said and pointed at Peter. The boy grew impossibly redder.

"Mr. Stark!" He whined.

"Alright, alright. I'll leave you guys to it. Oh, and put a sock on the door next time." He said with a wink before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.

Peter was paralyzed to the spot, whereas MJ just laughed.

"Oh my God...I'm so sorry MJ." He groaned and flopped down on his bed, covering his eyes.

"Don't be, that was actually kinda funny." She giggled and sat down next to him.

"Yeah, for you! You're not the one who has to face him everyday!" Peter groaned again. MJ took hold of his hands and pulled them away from his eyes. The boy looked up at her and pouted, making her laugh again.

"Come on, grumpy. It's okay, you'll be laughing about this tomorrow." She said and kissed his forehead.

"I doubt it." He sighed and pulled her down so she was laying next to him. She pulled him in and kissed him to calm his nerves. And for a moment, all Peter could think of was MJ, forgetting about the humiliating experience that took place a few seconds ago.

Peter was sat in front of the fireplace, fiddling with his hands nervously. He and MJ had been together for 4 years, and it had been the best 4 years of his life. That's why he had a small box in his pocket, containing a beautiful, silver engagement ring. Peter was in college now, so he didn't have much money to spend. That's why he had been saving up for the past two years and worked two jobs, because that's what MJ deserved. He knew he was making the right decision, so why was he so damn anxious?

That's why he drove over to Tony's lake house at 10pm. He felt guilty intruding in his home when Morgan was asleep, but he just needed to talk to someone.

"Here's your coffee, kid. Now, wanna tell me what's got you all worked up?" Tony said, placing a coffee mug in front of Peter before sitting down next to him. Peter took a sip from his coffee to stall, but finally looked at the man.

"I...I think I'm gonna ask MJ to marry me." He said, releasing a deep breath. A smile instantly grew on Tony's face. It was the type of smile that you can't get rid of for days, that lit up a whole room and reached his eyes.

"Really? That's great, Pete! You think?" Tony exclaimed, clapping a hand on Peter's shoulder.

"Y-Yeah, well, I already have the ring." He said with a nervous laugh and pulled out the navy box. He opened it up to show Tony, who let out a whistle.

"Geez, kid. How on earth did you afford that? You never asked me for any money, so I know it wasn't with my help. Unless you stole it." Tony joked.

"I've been saving up." Peter grinned, putting the box and the ring away again. His smile dropped a few seconds later, catching the attention of Tony.

"You don't seem too happy about it."

"No, no, no! I-I am! It's just...I'm worried." He said with a sigh.

"Why? You did ask her parents for permission, right?" Tony asked with uncertainty.

Peter whipped his head up. "Of course I did!"

"Oh...then why are you worried?"

"Because...because what if she says no?!" He cried out. Tony snorted, earning a glare from Peter.

"Pete, buddy...why do you think she would ever say no? You've been together for four years, you love each other, and besides, do you really think you would've bought an expensive engagement ring if you truly thought she would reject you?" Tony questioned, Peter thought about it, and then smiled to himself. How is it that Tony is always able to reassure him so easily?

"Okay...yeah. But...how-how do I do it? I haven't really planned this through, Tony." He whined. Tony sighed and leant back in his seat.

"I'm sure that anything you think of will be perfect. Whether that's proposing to her at home, or on a date, or somewhere significant...she'll love it anyway. Because she gets to marry the second most awesome guy in the world."

"Right, the first being you." Peter scoffed, but also comforted by his words.

"No, it's not me, actually. It's that guy that I see everyday in the mirror." Tony said, making Peter laugh. They sat in silence for a few seconds, just appreciating the moment. Peter took another sip from his coffee before speaking.

"Thank you, Tony" He whispered. The man looked at him with the same smile as before.

"Anytime, kid."

Peter took MJ out the following week. He took her to the blossom tree that they stood under the first time Peter asked her out on a date. He waited for the blossoms to fall and for the sun to set before popping the question, and of course she said yes. It was more beautiful than either of them could imagine, but even so, Peter thought back to what Tony said, and knew he was right. It didn't matter if he was proposing to her in their small apartment, or at a restaurant, or even just on the sidewalk. If it included Peter, MJ, and the ring, then it was already as perfect as it could be.

Notes:

AHHHH I really love this! Also, I hope someone understood the How I Met Your Mother reference.
