Work Text:
Javier wakes up but doesn’t want to open his eyes.
“Cariño, what’s going on?”
A strange sound accompanied by Yuzuru’s naughty laughter gets closer and closer. Javier still keeps his eyes shut, mumbling in Spanish, until Yuzuru puts something squirming on his forehead.
Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! Chirp!
Javier has no choice but to get out of bed, getting rid of the cicada and unhappily looking at his boyfriend. “What were you doing? It makes a lot of noise.”
“Noises are good, good to wake Jabi up.”
“I’ve got jet lag. I need to sleep.”
It was a few years ago when Javier last visited Sendai, not long after they made their relationship official. This year, Yuzuru’s parents finally made up their mind to take an overseas trip. Yuzuru took the advantage of the opportunity to invite Javier to spend the summer with him in Japan.
Yuzuru looks at his boyfriend, who is still sleepy, pouting like a kitten and shaking his head in disagreement.
“You said that the day before yesterday! You’ll never get over jet lag this way.”
Javier blinks slowly, knowing he isn’t on solid ground and accepting his fate. He gets up from bed, washes his face, brushes his teeth, and makes himself some coffee. Yuzuru successfully completed his mission, grinning and sticking around Javier.
“Do you wanna play video games? How about cold soba noodles for lunch? They deliver, and it’s really good!” Yuzuru is cheerfully chattering.
“Where did you get that?”
Javier watches Yuzuru teasing the cicada in the palm of his hand, curious. Yuzuru beams at him and says in triumph, “I caught it from a tree.”
Javier takes a glance at the trees in the yard, widening his eyes. “Do you climb trees?”
“You don’t believe I do?”
Yuzuru looks like he is ready to push himself up to a tree. Javier cannot help chuckling. He leans over to snuggle with Yuzuru, giving one finger to stroke the cicada’s wings. “I just cannot imagine you are into other sports than skating.”
“Why doesn’t it chirp anymore?”
“Is it dying? Stroke it gently!”
“It’s still moving. It’s alive!”
“Or is it too tired to chirp?”
They are like two toddlers huddling together, jibber-jabbering over the cicada. Javier’s fingers are gradually entangled in Yuzuru’s.
“Are you poking me or the cicada?”
“Here, does it still hurt?”
Javier comes out of his trance, drawing Yuzuru’s attention to his little finger that was injured before. Yuzuru looks at Javier in adoration, deliberately pursing his lips to act coquettishly.
“It does. Stop pinching my hand!”
Javier purses his lips too, holding Yuzuru’s hand in his and kissing it worriedly.
“Does it still hurt?”
Yuzuru snickers, wondering if his boyfriend is gay or just European. Are all Europeans like him, easily opening up about their feelings, being a sweet talker, and comfortable with hugs and kisses?
Apparently Javier is both. Yuzuru is stopped from overthinking as their lips are pressed together.

Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! Chirp!
“Cariño, can you put it back on the tree?”
“I lied to you. I don’t climb trees.”
“What?!”
“I want to see you climb trees.”
