Summary
Edward Wessex went to law school hoping to settle down with his high school sweetheart in a tiny California town, far away from his strict English parents. He'd be the jack of all trades lawyer, marry his girlfriend, and provide for their surprise twins. Twenty years later, he's a managing partner at his family's firm, Wessex & Saxon, one of the biggest cross-Atlantic litigation giants there is. Then his sister dies, and everything goes downhill from there.
Uhtred Ragnarson's life fell apart thirty years ago when his uncle killed his father. He still made a name for himself as one of the best legal investigators in Europe working for Edward's father. He's given a lot to Wessex & Saxon, but he's kept one foot over the "less than strictly legal" line in order to do it. And he's always dreamed of regaining his family's wealth.
Wessex & Saxon hasn't given him much in return. In fact, they destroyed his family.
So why should Uhtred help Edward pull Wessex & Saxon out of the deepest shit they've ever waded into?
Maybe because the case that just crossed Edward's desk could return Uhtred's family business where it belongs.
