Work Text:

The epic battle was not as epic as normal that night. No explosions or loud calls of death threats aimed at the metallic hero. Steel Samurai made quick work of the Magiminis thrown his way. He looked up to Evil Magistrate.

The villainous visionary of faux justice seemed… tired. Which was definitely a weird occurrence.

In fact, it almost seemed like, from Steel Samurai’s view, that the other was struggling to stand straight.

Evil Magistrate always had an air of mystery and superiority. It came out in the way he held himself and even how he spoke. But here and now he seemed to have lost that vibe.

Steel Samurai patted the side of Silver Steed’s neck as he stepped closer to the building Evil Magistrate stood atop.

“Evil Magistrate!” The samurai called out.

The man looked down to him with his full attention.

“You look terrible!”

“What?!” The villain choked out. “How dare you be so impudent!”

Steel Samurai pulled out his staff and used it to pole vault to the roof. Only a few steps away from his counterpart. The silver light of the moon reflected off their metal skin in unison.

The moment of silence was cut off by a loud and harsh cough from Evil Magistrate.

“That sounded terrible,” Steel Samurai commented with a nod and cross of his arms.

Evil Magistrate looked up at him with a venomous glare. “Do you intend to continuously mock me? You have taken out my forces this night. Do you wish to use my state against me now? Finish me off completely?”

The samurai tilted his head in question for a moment before throwing it back with a loud and boisterous laugh. “Of course not,” he finally responded.

Evil Magistrate only frowned. If it wasn’t for the way the samurai before him always acted he would think the other was making fun of him. His skin wasn’t the only dense thing about the other a lot of the time.

“I may have… contracted something small a day or so ago,” he finally admitted.

“And you’re still out here trying to cause trouble? That’s what I call dedication!”

It’s not trouble you blistering fool! I will bring about a just world! Just you watch m-“ he was sharply cut off of his ranting by another hard coughing fit. Evil Magistrate clutched at his chest weakly. He sighed. “Nevertheless, it is none of your concern.”

This time Steel Samurai frowned. “I don’t think you’re going to get very far like that.” He walked closer. Face to face with the other. It was the first time they’d been so close without their weapons pointed at each other in a really long time. “You should rest. Whatever plans you have can wait, right?”

Evil Magistrate looked up at him like he’d grown an extra head. “Why do you care so much?”

Steel Samurai didn’t answer immediately. He paused for a second before patting his hand to the villain’s upper arm and holding it there. “The moon hates to see you run yourself so ragged, old friend.”

The familiar term made Evil Magistrate stiffen in place. How dare he use words so casually. As if the two of them were to be anything but mortal enemies. As if the hero knew the moon’s wills and wishes better than he! It was almost laughable. Though, at the moment, the idea of laughing put phantom pains in his chest from his last coughing fit.

Evil Magistrate smacked the other’s hand off his arm. “You would be wise not to let your guard down around your enemy ,” he replied, putting emphasis on the last word.

Steel Samurai only crossed his arms and mumbled, “At least go take a cough drop or something.”

“Your worry is unwarranted and unwanted. I will retreat for now. But mark my words, this is not over.” And with a harsh blast of black flames, the man was gone.

Steel Samurai frowned at the, now empty, spot in front of him. He couldn’t lie, caring for the guy felt pretty unwanted to himself too sometimes. But he only smiled and jumped back off the roof. As he walked back to his steed, he wondered if a Magimini would be able to make the villain some soup. That would definitely help his throat some. Or maybe some tea.

He rode home, now craving soup as well.
