Yeah, maybe deciding to listen to their campers wasn’t the wisest of decisions that Chris could have made that day.
But ever since the day he and Chef had confirmed that they were together, romantically , the kids couldn’t stop asking enough questions. They asked way too many questions, and they were beginning to get a little too involved with the whole matchmaking role, which even he could admit, seemed sweet at first.
But now the sweetness had mostly warn off, and it was beginning to get a little bit annoying, overwhelming, even by his standards. The others telling them to do more couple-y things, directing what they did with their relationship. But the two were happy with how they were, there was no need to improve what was already fine.
The girls, and even a few of the guys, had started gossiping . Secretly talking to Chris to wonder how he and his partner's dating was going, they’d been doing the exact same with Chef. Neither of them had any idea.
The campers had eventually stopped their insistent attempts at, ‘professional matchmaking’ after discovering that nothing was going to happen if they kept asking repetitively, they reluctantly gave up. It still didn’t stop them from trying to pry gossip from the two.
Each of them going up to Chef and Chris, asking so many questions about the other. They still hadn’t clued onto this, only that the contestants were asking a lot more questions than usual. God, kids were weird.
They’d been suggesting so many stupidly ridiculous things, movies that the two should watch, activities … And maybe , they’d tried quite a few of them. The kids did seem to be helpful! Lindsay had been sneaky, leaving the conversation after Chris had mentioned not having any film ideas. She went to find Chef.
“Oh, hey Chef?” She chirped, smiling at the other, ‘Host’
“Mhm?” He hummed out, a little cautious considering the past week.
“What kind of movies do you like?” It seemed to be a normal question, so he answered without a second thought.
“Ooh, hm.” He huffed, “ Action , suspense movies. I don’t like all that romance stuff too much.” He hummed, which Lindsay had a slight look on her face, which she changed quickly.
“Alright, thanks Chef!” And off she ran, before he could even question why he’d been asked that.
So that was their system, ask the other obscure questions about each other, and then one of the campers would to repeat this information back to them, who would find the perfect thing to tell Chris or Chef that the other would live, and it had worked every time.
Chris and Chef argued a lot, it was common knowledge! But that’s what made them being together so fun, the fact that they could fight with eachother, for fun! Their, ‘fights’ were usually just them being really motivated to get their points across, and it was hardly ever about anything serious. And it never really meant anything.
Until it did , accidentally . Chef had been rambling with Chris, and they’d started another one of their heatless debates, no anger involved at all. But Chef may or may not have by mistake brought up something that may have upset him just a bit. And like every perfectly normal relationship, He simply just didn’t mention it again, and had moved on from it until he forgot he hadn’t spoken about it and offhandedly brought it up to the curious teenagers.
And that’s the moment he knew that he fucked up and the chaos began. He should’ve fleed the moment he saw that look in their eyes.
They were trying so hard to get Chris to get some petty revenge, which was stupid. To get revenge on someone for something the other didn’t know they did? Absolutely dumb, but they way they’d worded it so harmlessly … But, if he were being honest... It didn’t sound the worst .
Gwen had actually been the one to suggest it, with the agreement of Duncan, Heather, and a few of the others. “Why don’t you go and scare him? Just wait for him to go where you are and jump out at him, easy. Then you get your, ‘revenge’. Chris hummed and nodded at her.
Yeah, okay. That didn’t actually sound that bad at all, even without the petty reason aside. He could prank Chef any time! It’d be funny, and he’d film it. A little bit of karma never hurt anyone, it was all for fun.
Chris McLean was currently waiting, he was right in the middle of where the campers would usually head to go and eat their sub-partial meals. He knew that his partner, Chef would have to be coming soon, and that he always entered through the back-entrance of the mess hall.
But there was a small part of him that thought that something was missing, something that he’d maybe forgotten to do, a thing that was important.
… The Cameras!
Oh wait, never mind. The whole island was constantly filming anything, anyway. So there was no need to set up an extra camera, they were still filming now! That wasn’t something they wanted the contestants to know, though. Chris was currently hiding himself by-side of the swinging doors, Chef wouldn’t be able to see him if he were coming through he back.
Hopefully, he didn’t decide on trying something new, or that would throw this prank entirely out of the window. Was it too late to reconsider this? He could just try not look startling and tell Chef he was simply just, making a sandwich- Or something.
But just as he thought it over one last time, the sound of the back door’s handle began to wiggle widely, the rusted doors hinged creaking loudly as Chris jumped back to his hiding place. He didn’t dare move an inch, not wanting to mess this up.
As Chef entered into the kitchen, the whole room felt so tense . Of course, the feeling was only share by him, since the other could have no idea on what he was currently planning. Chris glanced his eyes over to one of the cafeteria tables, there sat two plates. Ones that he hadn’t left there, but ones that Chef was no doubt going to clean up.
As the footsteps stopped, and Chris could feel himself holding his breath as the sounds resumed a moment later, getting louder than before. He’d spotted them, he had to have. His voice sounded so close. Mentally he counted, from one to three.
The sound of footsteps were just outside the swinging door, and the second he saw the saloon-Esque door move, he jumped out. “GOTCHA-”
CRACK
Chris had hissed instantly as he brought shaking hands up towards his face. Chef had frozen for a moment, quickly lowering his fist as he suddenly freaked out with a mix of emotions, “Chris- What the Hell?” He stressed, his voice a mix of half-concern, hald-anger. Though that feeling quickly began to fade as he saw a few drops of fresh blood hit the wooden tiles.
"Oww..." Chris had breathed out, no longer letting his hands go anywhere near his face, because Holy Shit. That was starting to make it sting, so badly. The sensation almost felt as if something extremely hot was burning him, something besides Chef's glorious face.
“You good? What the fuck were you doing? Shit, I’m sorry man.” It was as if Chef were going through the five stages of grief, except without being too upset, more so just the confusion, half-anger, and a bit of surprise.
“ Karmaaaa… ” Chris hummed out as he winced further, the shock adrenaline was beginning to run out and he was feeling a lot more of this. As the blood continued to flow freely down his face, Chef groaned out at the stupid grin his partner was currently displaying, grabbing the others hand and all but dragging him towards the kitchen sink.
“What the Hell do you mean by karma , dumbass.” He sighed, reaching for some of the paper towels on the counter. Wetting them with the coldest of water, straight from the tap. “Hold still .” He grumbled out as he, without warning , had pushed into Chris’s face. Making the other hiss out again, genuine shock from the cold liquid.
Not receiving an answer he tried one last time, “ Why? ”. What was the reason for it, and what did he mean by karma? He didn’t recall doing or saying anything…? As he continued to stare towards Chris, the other began to realize that there was no chance that he’d be getting away with this without some explanation.
“... It was just a little bit of petty revenge!” He hummed, the grinning was back. Chef glared slightly, as he waited for him to get to the damn point. “Okay, alright. ” He looked away slightly, “The other day when you made jokes about my old acting, I might have been just a bit … Embarrassed ” He breathed out, “So the kids tried to convince me to prank you, and succeeded.”
“You told the campers before me?” His voice wasn’t mad, just curious. Curious as to why Chris had decided on telling them, before him.
“In my defense, I completely forgot and mentioned it by mistake, I’m not upset about it anymore,” He lied. “I just wanted to prank you.” He grinned towards Chef, again.
Chef frowned a bit, “ Mhm , sorry for makin’ fun of you. I do love your acting. Now quit tryna scare me.” Chris rolled his eyes to that playfully as he sighed dramatically, accepting Chef’s apology.
“By the way, you and the campers are all idiots. What made you think sneaking up on someone trained with defense is a good idea?” It was Chris’s turn to grimace, imagining what would’ve happened if one of the kids had tried to do the prank. But hey, it wasn’t. And hopefully, Chris’s no-doubt broken nose would set a simple reminder on not to do that.
No more pranks.
Until, the very next day when Chef jumped out at Chris when he was leaving his trailer. Finally giving the conformation that the two were about the commence in the best prank war this show had ever seen.
