Work Text:
Jaeyoung looked over to the passenger seat that contained a sleeping Sangwoo, with a dopey smile on his face. He'd missed him so much during his time in France. It'd been the hardest thing about being in Europe; the distance from his boyfriend.
"Eyes on the road." Sangwoo said without opening his eyes.
"Yes sir." Jaeyoung replied with a smirk.
The fact that Sangwoo could glare with only one eye open was most certainly a gift.
Jaeyoung just laughed at him and finally turned his eyes back to the road.
A comfortable silence fell between the two and Jaeyoung was sure Sangwoo had fallen back to sleep.
"Is that idiot trying to cause an accident?" He Jaeyoung muttered as he noticed a car travelling in the opposite direction without its headlights on.
Jaeyoung flashed his own as a signal to the other to turn his headlights on for safety.
"Oh my god. Tell me you didn't just flash your headlights." Sangwoo said.
"I thought you'd gone back to sleep."
"Please tell me you didn't just flash your headlights at that car!"
"Well yeah, it could have caused an accident." Jaeyoung replied, not understanding Sangwoo's anxiousness.
"You idiot!"
Sangwoo looked behind me and squeaked in alarm (he'll deny the squeak though).
"Do you even know what flashing your headlights in a situation like that means?"
"Err... Put your headlights on?"
Sangwoo loved Jaeyoung, he really did, but sometimes he could be so dumb. If Sangwoo wasn't worried about killed he'd definitely slap Jaeyoung upside the head.
"No you idiot! It's an initiation. The driver was waiting for another car to flash their headlights and now they're going to follow and kill us!" Sangwoo explained, his voice getting more hysterical towards the end.
Of all the reactions Sangwoo expected, Jaeyoung laughing at him was not one of them.
"Oh my, Sangwoo. Where did you get that from? You're normally so rational and that has got to be the least rational thing I've ever heard you say." Jaeyoung said in between fits of laughter.
Okay, Sangwoo had to give him that. But now was not the time to explain himself. Time for a reality check.
"Take a look in your mirror."
Jaeyoung's laughter abruptly stopped when, sure enough, the car he flashed his headlights at was behind them and getting closer.
"Oh."
"Believe me now?"
"There could be a rational explanation as to why it's now heading this way." Jaeyoung tried to reason.
"I'd love to hear it."
"They could have realised they were going the wrong way."
"After you flashed your headlights?"
Jaeyoung didn't know how to reply. The evidence was there and now the fear was creeping in. He didn't know how his rational boyfriend was aware of this... Story? Tale? Legend? This whole situation was far from rational but right now he needed to find a way to keep his boyfriend safe. He glanced in the rear view mirror again and nearly had a heart attack. The other car was nearly on his bumper.
"Right, we're out of here." Jaeyoung said, speeding up. "How far is the nearest service station?"
"I'm looking."
Sangwoo frantically scrolled on his phone as Jaeyoung worried his lip and kept glancing in the rear view mirror.
"Another 2 miles." Sangwoo replied.
"Not too far, but far enough. Every time I pull away, they close the gap."
"I told you"
"Now is not the time for I told you so's." Jaeyoung snapped, before he was jolted forward by a sharp bump from behind. "What the-"
"They just rammed the car!" Sangwoo said, sliding down in his seat.
"Yeah figured that." Jaeyoung said through gritted teeth.
He saw lights up ahead and thanked whatever deity there might be. He tried his best to speed up one last time. They just needed to make it to the service station before the other car.
Jaeyoung swerved the car towards the petrol pumps, not bothering to park properly.
"Sangwoo, get out now!"
They both scrambled out of the car, Jaeyoung limping slightly due to the vicious bump the car had taken. They ran into the shop, taking the cashier (and only person in the shop) by surprise.
"Please, you have to help us!" Jaeyoung begged.
"Why what's wrong?"
"We're being chased by another car. Please just call the police and we'll-"
Jaeyoung never got to finish his sentence as a gunshot rang out through the shop and thr poor cashier fell to the floor.
Sangwoo made a high pitched whining noise in the back of his throat and clung to Jaeyoung. Jaeyoung turned both of them around to finally face who'd been chasing them.
"You really shouldn't have flashed your headlights."
