Chapter Text
Light blocked out by shut eyes, Emmet held his arms out to the side like a scarecrow, waiting for a spraying sound. His face scrunched in discomfort as the cold mist of a max repel hit his skin.
Emmet blinked his eyes open when he heard the sound of spraying stop. He looked at Ingo, who was handing him the repel. “Now my turn.”
Emmet nodded as he took the repel, spraying a generous amount of the mist over the other. He was hoping to insure they would be safe as they went out into the tall grass.
After finishing, Emmet tossed the repel into his backpack and gave Ingo a smile of anticipation. The smiles reciprocated excitedly, Ingo took Emmets hand, leading them into the thick grass together.
Tall grass was only about waist high for most trainers, but they were still very young, so it reached just about the top of their heads. Emmet watched as the grass was pushed aside, acting like a canopy of trees as light seeped through in long slim slivers that cast over his and Ingo's face, moving across it slowly with the push of the wind.
As they walked Emmet stuck close to his brother. Even with the repel he still felt like there might be pokemon nearby. Ingo watched the way Emmet's eyes flicked around them, gripping Ingo’s hand tighter. Ingo felt a strange swell of pride at the idea that Emmet wanted to trust him to keep him safe. “Are you afraid we’ll see some Pokémon?” He asked, getting the others' attention.
“A little.” Emmet admitted, blinking a few times on a thought. “But more, kind of excited about what we would see.” He said, causing both their minds to whirl with excited ideas of pokemon.
“Normal type maybe?” Ingo thought out loud while smiling. “Definitely a flying type too.” They had recently learned about Pokémon types in class for the first time, both had been obsessed with the idea- as well as basically everything else they learned about pokemon.
Upon its mentioning, Emmet immediately jumped at the chance to talk about pokemon. “Oh oh- Which type would you pick, normal or flying?” He asked, quickly shaking his free hand up and down in excitement, and springing a bit as he walked.
“Definitely flying!” Shouted Ingo as Emmet's excitement started to spread. “They have way cooler moves, and they can fly!” He exclaimed, Emmet nodding his head firmly In agreement.
They finally found their way out of the grass, and moved into town. They weren’t totally equated with the small town they lived in, mostly used to going there with their mother to guide them, but they’d been here enough times to know how to get to specific parts of town they remembered well. They passed by a few adults who waved to them as they passed, easily recognizing the twins when they were together. They smiled and waved back, Ingo waving weakly, while Emmet waved so hard he jolted Ingo through their joined hands.
Moving towards the middle of town, they arrived at a small playground. It was one of the few places their mother let them go alone, so naturally it was one of the main stops for afternoon play time.
When they stepped onto the playground, they didn’t waste any time in heading for the large metal and wooden jungle gym, excited to start playing. Just as they were about to get onto the playground equipment, a few figures stepped in the way of the entrance, the twins stepping back in confusion.
They looked up at the shadows blocking their way, standing above them on the playground equipment and body’s back lit from the mid morning sun.
“Are you planning on getting on my playground?” The middle most kid asked with a sneered, leaning forward to reveal the smirk on his face.
“Yes. And it would be much easier for us if you moved.” Emmet said simply, the edges of his voice tightened with annoyance.
“Well you don’t know this but this is actually my playground- and clones aren’t allowed.” He informed me with a delighted smile.
“Clones!?” Ingo shouted stunned.
“We’re not clones!” Emmet insisted, letting go of Ingo’s hand with a scowl, and balling his fists.
“Well you're definitely still creepy!” The kid on the left laughed. “My mom says your mom dresses you guys the same on purpose, who does that?”
Emmet could feel rage building in his chest, and Ingo recognized that Emmet was a couple of seconds from launching himself at the bully. “Maybe w-we can compromise?” He said, trying to calm both party’s down.
The boy turned his attention to Ingo. “Sorry but we don’t compromise with weird creepy clones.” He condescended. “How about you just going back home. Or maybe play around in the tall grass, with all the wild Pokémon?”
Emmet's short tolerance snapped like a rubber band, as he grabbed the main kid by the ankle and pulled him down from up high. The kid reacted with a cry of pain when he hit the ground on his butt, giving Emmet a look of fiery anger. The other two bully’s were quick to surround Ingo and Emmet. Ingo gave the one closest to him a harsh push when he got too close, causing him to stumble away. The other kid pushed Emmet over onto the pavement at their feet, causing Emmet to cry out in pain as his elbow connected hard with the asphalt.
Ingo immediately felt fear flare in his chest as Emmet cried out in pain, pulling Emmet up by the under arms and dragging them away from the playground hastily.
“You we’re all verrry annoying!” Emmet yelled in an irritated voice at the three bully’s, who’s angry faces we’re getting further and further away.
Ingo didn’t say anything. He was too busy pulling Emmet away from the playground. He walked quickly, now holding Emmets hand as they made it into a small cluster of trees next to town.
Pushing Emmet down to a sitting position, Ingo launched into checking Emmet up and down for scratches, stopping to examine the gash on his elbow “Are you ok!?” Ingo shouted frantically as he started reaching into his backpack, looking for anything that would help.
“I am Emmet…and my elbow hurts…” Emmet admitted in a watery voice as tears began to well in his eyes. “A lot…”
“Why did you do that back there?” Ingo said half shunning. Pulling out a tissue and hand sanitizer, he wet it with a glob of disinfectant, spreading it out over the paper. “This will hurt a bit, ok Emmet?” He said as softly as possible, pressing the tissue to Emmets elbow.
Emmet hissed out in pain, grabbing grass with his other hand and pulling his injured arm away. “Ow!” He sobbed, tears falling freely now.
“I know I know- it hurts, but it will help clean the cut.” Ingo insisted, wiping the tears off Emmets cheek. He waited patiently until Emmet slowly brought his arm back to a resting position, and let Ingo begin to clean it again.
He hissed again when Ingo wet it, but didn’t pull away, instead looking away and gritting his teeth.
“You didn’t answer my question.” Ingo pointed out. “Why did you do that?” He said as he started to wet a different tissue with water.
Emmet's face pulled in discomfort from the question as well as the cleaning, wiping away tears with his dirt strained palm. “They are gonna fight us. I was just fighting back.”
“You didn’t know that.” Ingo asserted, finishing with cleaning Emmets cut, starting to look through his bag for a large bandaid. “They might have left us alone if we…” Putting the bandaid on slowly and pressing it down, he let Emmet pull his arm away and examine the now bandaged scrape. “There we go…” Ingo let out a deep sigh. “Brother, we can’t just fight people like that- look what happened!”
“Well it’s better than just letting them push us around!” Emmet retaliated. “I am Emmet, and I will never let people treat us like that.” He said, pulling Ingos hands into his own and giving an earnest look. “Because I love you.”
Ingo felt his anger melt away at the gesture, instead replaced with a warm fondness. He shook his head, knowing he couldn’t stay mad at Emmet for long. “Honestly Emmet…” He said through a smile “Tell me, how much do you love me?” Ingo asked, holding back a smile.
“Oh I love you verrry much!” Emmet lifted Ingos' hand up and pulled them out as wide as they could go. “I love you this much!”
Ingo giggled, pulling Emmets hands into his own and interlocking their fingers. “Excellent brother! Bravo!” They both grinned at each other.
Ingo watched startled as Emmet's smile fell a bit, and his hold on Ingo’s hands went limp and their interlaced hands rested in between the brothers. “Ingo, I’m sorry I got us into trouble.”
Ingo sighed, still smiling fondly at the other. “No no Emmet, you're right. Those guys were being really mean. Just maybe next time no fighting...”
Emmet smiled widely, guilt being replaced with joy. He couldn’t find the word to speak, so instead he pulled Ingo into a bone crushing hug.
“Woah!” Ingo exclaimed as he went toppling over onto Emmet, now laying on the ground.
Emmet giggled and held the other close. Ingo relished the hug, leaning further into the other and laying on top of him, snuggling into his chest. They laughed and hugged until they were tired, and relaxed under the shade of the trees, the warmth of the afternoon sun nearly putting them to sleep.
Their plans of the playground completely forgotten, they dozed the afternoon away in each other’s arms.

Chapter Text
“Mom, what’s that place?” Emmet asked, pulling on his mom's pants. He pointed to the shop they were walking by, with a few wedding dresses displayed in the window.
“That’s a wedding parlor honey.” She answered simply, pausing to look at the dresses as well. “The dresses look beautiful.”
“They are….” Emmet agreed in a mumble, looking at the one dress in the middle in particular. It was a fairly conservative dress, with a large poofy bottom and hang over sleeves. It had lacy black highlights going over the middle and top of the dress, but was over all white.
Emmet’s mother noticed how starry eyed Emmet was starting to get looking at the dresses, and smiled fondly. “Would you like to go inside?” She asked.
Emmet gasped. “For real!?” He said, shaking his hands up and down. “Ingo-Ingo, come on!” Emmet shouted, moving over to his brother.
Ingo looked up from his Litwick in his hands, that he was previously feeding a small treat. “Huh?” He asked, tuning back into the conversation.
“Come oooooon.” Emmet wined impatiently, shaking his hands even faster and jogging in place.
“O-oh- ok!” He was just quick enough to place Litwick on his shoulder before Emmet started pulling him inside by the wrist. “Woah!” He huffed out, Litwick letting out a similar noise of surprise.
“Emmet honey- calm.” Their mother hushed as she followed behind Emmet on his way to the shop door. “It’s a boutique, not a playground.”
“Right! Calm! I am Emmet, and I am calm.” Emmet said confidently as he pushed open the door, the bell above it twinging.
Ingo looked around at the racks of white dresses in confusion. “What are we doing here?” He asked Emmet, looking at his brother with a confused exasperation.
“Emmet wanted to look at some of the dresses.” Their mother informed, as she started towards one of the display dresses. “Oh, this one is so similar to my wedding dress.” She mumbled to herself with interest as she walked away.
“Emmet?” Ingo asked, getting the other’s attention again. “What’s so interesting about wedding dresses?” He asked, raising a brow.
“Here just come look at this.” Emmet motioned for Ingo to follow him, leading them over to a manikin wearing a dress similar to the one Emmet had been looking at before, a black and white dress. “Wouldn’t that be fun to wear?” Emmet asked Ingo.
“I guess so.” Ingo mumbled, eyes wondering behind the dresses large poofy bottom.
“What er’ you lookin’ at?” Emmet moved to peek past the dress too. Behind it he saw the men’s section of the store. “The suits?”
“Yeah. They look cool right?” Ingo asked Emmet with a nervous smile, starting towards the suits with fascination.
Emmet followed close behind. “They’re kind of like the little suits we wear to fancy restaurants.” Emmet mentioned, as they entered the men’s section, looking around curiously.
Ingo stopped in front of a display, showing off a deep black suit with a white tie and lining. “Woah.” He said in amazement, Litwick cooing in agreement from his shoulder.
“That one?” Emmet asked, peering at it in thought. “It’s verrry nice.” He praised with his hands on his hips.
“Boys!” Emmet and Ingos mother called from the front of the store, both boys turning their heads in the direction. “Time to go!”
They began heading back towards the front of the store immediately. Emmet piped up with a thought. “Maybe if we do the eyes mom will let us get candy.” Emmet whispered, flashing a cute look, which Ingo laughed and mirrored as they raced towards the front of the store.
After going home from a day of shopping with their mom, the boys had the evening to themselves. They sat together on Ingo’s bed, watching as Litwick and Tynamo played together.
After a while of silence, Ingo spoke up. “You know, those dresses from before were really pretty.” He admitted sheepishly, fingers fidgeting with the black comforter.
“Have you been thinking about it?” Emmet asked, rolling over on Ingos bed until he was on his back parallel to Ingo. “I have as well.”
“Really?” Ingo asked shocked, leaning forward onto his stomach and looking at Emmet.
“Yep. You would look handsome in that suit from before. Verrrry handsome.” Emmet said shaking his head up and down.
Ingo felt his cheeks flush. “Thank you, you would look excellent in that dress as well.” Ingo complemented back, feeling his chest flutter, imagining Emmet in the dress.
“Thanks! I was thinking the same thing.” Emmet said as he flipped over onto his stomach, laying next to Ingo with their arms pressed together. “To bad I won’t be able to wear it.”
Ingo blinked a few times. “Why not?”
“…What do you mean?”
“Well I mean we may not be able to get that dress exactly but mom has dresses at home.” Ingo pointed out.
“Well ok, but what about the suit?” Emmet asked, brow furrowing in interest.
“We could barrow one of dads white ties, and I could use his vest to, and the rest of my suit could be the suits we already have.”
There was a long pause as the two of them processed the information, both staring blankly at each other.
“We should do that.” Emmet said.
And so they did. After raiding their parents' closets (with permission from said parents), Emmet had himself dressed up in a pure white dress that dragged behind him as he walked, and shined reflectivity in the sun. Over his arms laid a lacy black shawl that rested in the corners of his arms, and a big lacy string of fabric tied around his waist to match. Worn on his feet were the smallest heels their mom could find.
Meanwhile Ingo was dressed mostly in his own tailored suit, with a white tie that was a bit to big for him and a big black suit vest on under the jacket, that slightly clashed with the mostly navy blue suit. He combed his frizzy hair back as best he could, using water to get it to stay down.
The two boys set up two long black blankets to work as the isle, and two tall chairs that held up a semi see through piece of black cloth working as the arch.
They put out four chairs four the guests; two for each of their Pokémon and two for their parents. Their mother shifted around in her little wooden chair, far too small for her. She leaned over to her husband discreetly. “Are they really getting married?” She asked, face scrunching in doubt.
“I think their just playing.” Their dad shrugged, looking around at the set up. “Though they might be taking it a bit too far…”
Ingo stepped by, opening the curtains and turning on fairy lights taped up over the makeshift arch, and giving the wedding guests a smile and a wave, Litwick and Tynamo both letting out a cry of encouragement, and his parents offering a weak smile.
Ingo shuffled over to the corner of the room where an old CD player sat, pressing play on it, and cheesy wedding music began to waver through the room. Ingo rushed past the walls again to his spot under the arch, worrying a hand over his flat hair.
Their father ran a hand over his face. “…My god he looks like me on our wedding day.” He commented under his breath while massaging the bridge of his nose.
From around the corner came a clicking noise, and Emmet came shuffling around the corner into the room, holding a hand full of fake lilac and roses, wrapped together with a white string. Ingo obviously tensing up at the others appearance, face gaining a new wave of sweat. Emmet walked slowly down to the end until he met Ingo under the arch, smiling and winking, causing Ingo to blush deeply, looking away from the others' gaze.
The parents gave each other a look. “This is really happening isn’t it.” Their mother mumbled.
“Honestly I think I’m starting to expect it.” Her husband whispered back with a shrug.
The grainy wedding music cut out and was replaced with another softer song, and Emmet began talking with a loud cheerful voice. “We are gathered here today, to bring together Emmet and Ingo, in holy matrimony!” He shouted, fanning his hands out in excitement, then clasping them together with a slap. He gave Ingo a nod of the head, to start the vows like planned.
Ingo cleared his throat, shaking his hands a bit before breathing in and out, then starting. “Emmet- every day, I think about how I want you to be happy, and how I wanna be the one to make you happy! It would be my dream to spend the rest of our lives together, doing just that!” He vowed, voice raising as he spoke passionately.
Emmet smiled, pulling the fake flowers up to his face to hide his smile. “Ingo. I think you are amazing. You are always giving for me, always looking out for me. I want to make sure all that effort is repaid. I will spend every day together with you making sure you are happy, for the rest of our lives.” He promised
Leaning forward, Emmet gave the other a devious look. “You may now kiss the bride!” He exclaimed, quickly pulling the flowers away from his face and leaning in closer.
The parents leaned forward in interest mixed with worry as Ingo anxiously leaned forward. He shakily gave Emmet the lightest peck on the cheek he could, their parents letting out a sigh of relief.
“Yay!” Emmet cheered, flashing a wide smile. He lifted up the bouquet high above his head and punted it onto the ground with force, causing the fake flowers to fly everywhere.
“Emmet sweetie, I don’t think you’re meant to throw the bouquet at the ground.” Their mother said, looking at the mess of petals sympathetically.
“Sorry mom!” Ingo shouted apologetically, moving to pick up the fake flowers hastily.
Emmet turned to Ingo, smiling wickedly. “Honey moon time!” He shouted, latching onto Ingo’s back as the older twin leaned down to pick up the flowers. The other twin stubbles in surprise for a few seconds, before hoisting Emmet up more stably onto his back and starting to run out of the room, their Pokémon following close behind them in excitement.
“Wait- don’t get the clothes dirty-!” Their mother shouted as they rounded the corner out of the room, the sound of cheers and the door opening slamming shut ringing through the house.
She sighed, body slumping down in the small creaky chair, arms touching the floor. “…I wonder if they forgot about the rings or just don’t care?”
Notes:
If your curious about the choice of Lilac and Roses for the title/in this chapter, in flower language lilac represent innocence or childhood, and Roses obviously represent love. I basically just named my fic “childhood love” but I think the flowers are much fancier as a name lol
Again comment if you liked, and stay tuned for the next chapter! (which I admittedly still need to finish and edit so it might not be out by tomorrow but ummm it won’t be long I promise heheh)
