goodbye is not forever

Summary:

Heyo, first off, don't read this if you don't want to. This was just a lil something I wrote a hot minute ago to help process my feelings, and I decided to share it.

Um. Yeah.

Work Text:

“Hey, Tech.” Phil smiled at his friend. “It’s been a while, yeah?”

“Figured I should stop by and let you know how things are going.”

He lifts his head, glancing up at the sky. It’s bright and blue and perfect, not a cloud in sight. Perfect flying weather. That’s how he got here, after all.

“There’s been…There’s been a lot, which is why I haven’t really been able to come by. Once Dream was dealt with, Wilbur moved back in. And you know, wherever Wilbur goes, Tommy follows. They finally worked out their shit, which is great, because I was about to kick the fuckers out over to your house if they kept it up.”

“Ranboo and Tubbo moved a lot closer, back into Ranboo’s old place. I offered them yours, but Ranboo shot it down. Said it felt wrong. There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t see the four of them outside, screwing around and- well, inevitably blowing something up.” Phil chuckled, feathers ruffling behind him in the breeze. “They actually just worked together to build me a…what to call it, a brace. For my wing. I can’t fly like I used to, but I can get pretty damn close. It was Tubbo’s idea.”

“Tommy just turned 19. I swear, I don’t know where the time went. I can barely even call him a child anymore. He’s matured, and I think he really looks up to you. Little shit keeps trying to steal your catchphrase, running around shouting ‘TommyInnit never dies.’ I don’t think so. But- and I don’t say this lightly, you know that, he reminds me of you, a bit. I can’t really place why.”

He smiles fondly.

“He’s opened up a ton since Dream died. It’s like…he’s a totally different person. Same with Ranboo. Watching the two of them, the four of them, even, grow together is something to see.”

“I wish you were there.”

He takes a steadying breath, the smile fading.

“They miss you, you know. It’s obvious. The way Ranboo barely goes near your house, the way Tommy near obsessively takes care of your animals. They tell stories about you to Michael. Ranboo and Tubbo. I’ve heard them a couple of times. All good things, all good things.”

“I miss you.”

“I know it was your time to go. I know you were ready, and it’s what was best, but I can’t help missing you anyway.”

Phil reached out, hand resting lightly on the grave sitting solemnly in front of him, tracing the various engravings framing it. The crowns, the swords, the chrysanthemums. Hand picked by Technoblade himself.

Phil stretched his wings, dropping his hand.

“Say hi to Kristin for me, mate.”

“Love you.”

And as he spread his wings and flew , he could almost hear a familiar laugh in his ear.
