Chapter Text

It’s been two years since the girls had returned from amphibia and Marcy had decided to stay in L.A, After many arguments with her parents about it, yelling back and forth that she never once agreed to move away and that they couldn't tear her life In L.A, away from her.

Eventually, they had given up but told her that they would regardless move with, or without her, thinking that would work to bring her with them
but it hadn’t and eventually, they had seen she was being serious to stay, so they let her.

For a while, Marcy lived at Anne’s place until she and the Boonchuy's (and with the help of her parents) found a dorm for young youths and teens to live in.

Marcy was sad that her parents wouldn't stay for her sake but they were committed to the move and Marcy was not. She didn’t mind moving to a dorm too much though.

she got away from her parents that never understood her either way or yelled at her for being different and her interests and she didn't get to separate from her best friends. plus, in the dorm, she got a whole apartment in the building all for herself, so in that part, life was good.
she often missed her mother however since she had tried to mend the fight and at least had considered staying in L.A but the choice had fallen on her father and since he was not around much either way. Marcy resented him a bit for it but still could understand that he was not going to say no to a promotion.

She was not completely alone though in the dorm.
there were a few others who were having their apartments there too,
not that she interacted with them much more than a casual conversation or talked to the staff that worked there that was there to occasionaly help and check so everyone was doing alright or needed help with a whatever a young teen could need help with. So it was really a Win-Win situation.

Marcy had been on her way to meet up with Anne to go to school since her dorm was between Anne’s house and their school.

Once Marcy got to their usual meet-up spot that lay near the park however, Anne was nowhere to be seen.
With was odd since Anne tended to always be the first one there.

Marcy waited for five minutes, kicking some gravel that laid on the ground until she got bored and checked her phone to see if her friend had texted her to go on or would be late but there was nothing from Anne.
just some notification from social media that Marcy swiped away.

Marcy then looked into the park, and noticed someone familiar hunched over in the distance. ‘is that Anne?’ Marcy thought and when she looked closer it was indeed her friend.

a smile spread across her face seeing her friend and she jogged over to where Anne was.

“Anne! what are you doing in the park?” Marcy greeted and Anne turned around at the call of her name and when she did, Marcy spotted a small fuzzy animal jumping around Anne, trying to get up in her lap. “oh my god a pupper!” Marcy squealed and kneeled next to Anne and started to pet the excited Dog who’s attention fell on the new interesting person that had arrived, unlike Anne who had tried to keep the dog on all four.

Marcy let the dog jump up in her lap and started to lick her face.

“oh my gosh Anne, he is sooo! Cute! where did you find him??” Marcy asked and Anne chuckled at seeing the two, both as excited to pet and be petted.

“He was running around in the park and the owner doesn't seem to be here, I tried to get him to calm down, but now he is all wild again,” Anne said, referring to how the fluff ball of a dog was all over Marcy making her laugh and fall over so she sat on the ground as the dogs kisses had tickled her as he tried to get up in her arms.

Anne smiled fondly at this, to see the Dog and Marcy laugh, making her stomach tingle, not hearing how Marcy had asked her something as she had been too busy looking at Marcy, and was thinking how cute Marcy’s laugh was and how it brought Anne joy.

“Anne? hello?”

“huh?” Anne snapped out of it and saw how Marcy held the dog in her arms, he had calmed down a bit again.

“I asked, what we should do with this dog, we should take him to a vet or police right?” Marcy asked and Anne nodded, thinking for a bit.

“yeah I think so, or if we start asking around to see if anyone recognizes it" Anne suggested but then frowned slightly. “School though…”

“Let’s bring him! we could hide him, and then on a break, I could take him to my apartment and we could go check on him between classes!” Marcy suggested holding the dog up to Anne that tried to go to her, pawing slightly in the air from not reaching the brunette.

Anne ran her hand through the dog's soft fur, and scratched behind its ear, making it wag its tail even more.

“How do we even pull that off? “ Anne laughed, already knowing it would be a bad idea

“look- he can fit in here,” Marcy said and unzipped her hoodie and re-then zipped it with the dog inside of it, barely fitting and clearly still visible that an animal was being hidden under the hood.

The dog twisted its body around and placed its paws on Marcy's shoulders to support himself as she held the dog up so only his head poked out from the hoodie.

“ooor, I just call dad to pick this goof up and take him to the vet”

“But we need to show Sasha! pleaaase, Anne.
Let’s just bring him to school, your dad could pick him up there!”

Marcy pleaded and Anne was not sure whether the dog itself or Marcy’s puppy eyes was what made her agree. “fine, but only until class starts!” Anne warned "yes!" Marcy shouted and lifted the dog in the air and twirled around as Anne picked up her phone from her pocket to message her dad to come to school in twenty minutes or so because they had found a dog that needed to be taken to the vet to check if it was chipped.

But not before she took a few photos of it with Marcy so she could send them to her father.

and to Sasha to show what they had found.

so once they got to the entrance of the school, Sasha was already there waiting for them and rushed up to greet the dog.

Already patting him and found him adorable and seeing a new person yet again made the dog almost jump out of Marcy’s arms but she managed to keep him still as the dog got more pats.

“do you know what his name is?” Sasha asked while playing with the dogs paws holding them still from trying to paw at her.

“no idea, he doesn't seem to have a collar or anything like that, so that’s why my dad will take him to a vet to check if he is chipped” Anne explained.

“let’s just call him Link, It suits him” Marcy hugged the dog, referring to how the dog had a light blonde furr.

“that’s probably not his name, you will confuse him” Sasha chuckled

“oh, come on Sash, we need to refer him to something instead of just ‘the dog’ or ‘it’ “

“Link huh…” Sasha said and stroked the dog's head, I mean better than nothing, right, Anne?” Sasha asked and turned to Anne but noticed how the girl was staring at Marcy with a shy smile as Marcy played with ‘Link’ swinging him around a bit before putting him down.

to give him some crackers she had in her bag, with had made the dog even more focused on her, giving her his paw for a reward, even without Marcy saying anything.

“oh my gosh guys, he is so talented! I wonder what else he knows!” Marcy gushed and tried several commands, that the dog obediently listened to.

“She seems pretty fond of it huh?” Sasha elbowed Anne who snapped out from looking at Marcy and Link play.

“huh?? I-am not fond of Marcy! or I am! not like that though!
but uh-” Anne started to ramble and Sasha gave her a questioning look and why Anne was blushing so hard.

“not what I said… but good to know” Sasha smirked, making Anne panic

“That's not what I meant!”

“sure, sure, I gotcha” Sasha winked and Anne wanted to crawl into a hole

The trio waited around longer, playing with Link and trying different commands to see what he knew.

but soon enough, their class would start and Mr. B showed up to take Link off their hands. Something Marcy seemed upset about as she had already grown fond of the dog.

and reluctantly let him go and took extra time to say goodbye to the dog.

“goodbye Link, It was nice meeting you” Marcy mumbled and kissed the dog's forehead giving him one last scratch behind his ear.

“bye, dad, take care of Link for us, message me how it goes! I’m sure Marcy wants to have an update whenever or not you find his owner” Anne waved goodbye to her father who jumped into the car.

“will do, bye girls! and for you, we are going on a Lil trip” Mr. B spoke as he booped the dog's nose that waved its tail.

The three girls headed inside the school as soon as the bell rang, with Marcy hanging her head dejected as they walked through the crowded corridor. Anne patted her back, stroking it gently.

“comeone, Marcy, dad will take care of him for us and Link will soon be reunited with his owner we did something good today” Anne tried to comfort the girl.

“I know, he was just so cute and talented. Almost made me wish we could keep him longer “ Marcy sighed through a smile, rubbing her arm to comfort herself, knowing it was for the best that the dog got home to his owners but still felt sad regardless.

“you feel better soon enough Marcy” Sasha smiled and sat down at her desk, watching the girl with slight concern but knew she would most likely get over it in a few hours.

turns out that The rest of the day Marcy spent drawing in the notebook of the dog she had met, wondering whether or not he has gotten back to his owner or heard from them, and kept clinging to Anne asking whenever she had gotten any news from her dad about Link.

She had not. most likely forgotten to charge his phone again so he couldn't follow them up on what had happened.

Anne eventually suggested that Marcy and Sasha would follow her home that day so they could get the news directly from Mr. Boonchuy once they were out of school and done with their club activeties.

Something Marcy had immediately agreed to, while Sasha had to decline saying she had already promised to go out with her cheerleading squad after their practice for an upcoming game.

both Anne and Marcy had called her boring and that she should be a no-lifer like them and poked fun at the quote ‘ hang out with your friends that love you’ that Sasha used to always say to them whenever they said they couldn't join to hang out all three.

Sasha had rolled her eyes at them and faked laughed and that they better stop bullying her before she slams dunk them into a trash can,
because she can, and one hundred percent would if they didn't stop.

Marcy had backed down from it since she couldn't match Sasha or Anne in strength or close combat and if they ever were going to have a playful showdown she would need a bit of time to think out a plan on how to take down her two friends.

but her tactics and set of skills weren't really for ‘friendly’ fighting or dueling, to begin with so she usually sat out of their casual brawls and didn't really feel bad about it she was confident if they all were to go all out she could win.

Anne and Sasha had picked up sword fighting and martial art to compete against one another just a few months after their return from amphibia saying it was only because they enjoyed it but Marcy knew it was also because they missed it from their time in amphibia and to feel some sort of connections to it still and maybe even missed the rush of the danger that came with it to get the blood pumping.

Marcy had instead joined the archery club and quit the chess club as it reminded her way too much of flip wart, something she rathered leave behind her and not touch, if she so much could.

At least until she felt comfortable enough to play it again without thinking about how becoming good at such games had become her downfall and caused a whole invasion and more...

Anne and Marcy waved goodbye to Sasha and let her go to her cheerleading friends while Anne headed to tennis practice with Marcy joining her since she didn’t have anything else to do during that time.

much to Anne’s amusement because she thought Marcy would get bored watching them play but Marcy had insisted that she would be fine and that it be fun to watch her play for once.

It was a great day outside to play as well, the sun stood high,
and there was a pleasant breeze to keep cool from the heat, so all the tennis players were in high spirits including Anne who had declared to Marcy that she would win all her practice matches once they got to them and that she had a good feeling for the day and that since Marcy was going to watch she would have to try her best.

during their induvial practice, Marcy had laid down on bleachers to play on her switch until their practice matches would start, but soon realized that the burning sun kept her from seeing her game properly and quickly shut it off and shoved it back into her bag and settled for watching Anne practice her swings against one of those machines that spit out balls at you.

Marcy rested her head against her bag as her armed dangled from where she was laying eyes focused on Anne, she was in good shape and it was clear she was one of the better players there, her swings would hit hard and accurate to where Anne wanted the balls to go, always smiling so brightly and full of confidence whenever she felt pleased with her hits.

“Anne is really amazing…” Marcy thought to herself and continued to watch the girl how her intense gaze would focus on the ball before swinging down hard.

the sweat running from her forehead, how her back muscles would tense up when doing a serve.

Marcy felt her heart do a double take and she caught herself staring at her friend and sat up to quick to get rid of the thoughts of how she had just found her friend attractive.

and just how long she had been staring at her.

but when Marcy sat up she misplaced her hand against the seat to nothing but air so she lost her balance and face planted to the seat below the one she had rested on, letting out a loud thump that caught the tennis player's attention.

“Mar-mar! you okay?” Anne yelled from the tennis court and Marcy quickly sat up again and gave her a thumbs up. “doing great! keep working hard Anna-banana!” Marcy yelled back as she turned her head away praying that Anne could not see her flushed cheeks from the court.

that would be impossible and awkward to explain

Anne tilted her head with concern, wondering if the heat was getting to Marcy.

Anne then spotted her water bottle and then at Marcy who had pulled her hoodie over her head and laid faced down against her bag.

The brunette let out a soft chuckle as her gaze on Marcy softened due to how ridiculous but cute it looked from where Anne stood.

she quickly grabbed her water bottle and placed her racket against the fence.

“yo, teach, I will go check on my friend, is that okay?” Anne called the teacher who nodded at the girl.

“sure, go ahead, take a break, we will soon begin the matches”

“Thank you!” Anne smiled and quickly exited the court and jogged up the bleachers to approach Marcy who was currently cursing herself for not looking at her best friend with nothing more than friendship, if it had only been one time she probably could have ignored it.

but no, Marcy had caught herself staring at Anne several times during the past year and sometimes even felt nervous around the girl when it would only be the two of them and it frustrated her.

she knew she had very pretty and cute friends and had no problem thinking so of Sasha without feeling anything weird or the nervous feeling in her chest.

but whenever she would think of Anne in such a way, suddenly she felt like she wasn’t allowed and couldn't let Anne know she thought such things.

what if she would find her weird, for thinking her friend was probably the most prettiest and kindest girl in their whole school? she wasn’t about to take that risk.

“Marcy~” Anne called in a sing-a-song tone to get the girl's attention and pressed the cold water bottle against Marcy's cheek who was having a moment with her thoughts.

but quickly snapped out of it and jolted away from the touch of the cold bottle.

“A-Anne!”
